Not because lack of talent but he ought to be mighty expensive.

I think Ocon stays in [Silverstone] team and i can see Pérez moving to Williams. He's got a decent sponsorship package and they need an older driver. The problem with Kubica is less about his physical and more about his financial fitness.

Alonso out of F1 at the end of the season. Probably in Indy, maybe with McLaren itself.
Sainz officially in McLaren from 2019, probably paired with Lando Norris or (but I don't believe it) Ocon. Vandoorne is out.

Not sure why anyone would want to join mclaren at this point...

Ever since the departure of Lewis Hamilton, Which recent mclaren driver got a career boost? Not sure if it really helped Perez or Magnussen very much. For everyone else? Including Button and Alonso, it’s career ending.

Sainz probably just couldn’t find another suitable ride, but after being dumped by Renault, I’d full expect him to finish his career with mclaren.

I can't remember the last time McLaren didn't have at least one superstar driver.

Mika and Coulthard were at Schumacher - Massa level, as ranking drivers.

But the Peugot years were bad, I'm curious if even in minor machinery Mika was regarded a superstar driver. He'd had his accident and was out for a while, in what, 1995?

My memory only goes as far back as the Senna - Berger years, and yes, I think the 1996 Hakkinen - Coulthard pairing was the weakest in terms of starpower.

Amazing, isn't it? Only in a team of such lineage could one consider those two drivers to be relatively minor.

    Looking it up...
1981: John Watson & Andrea de Cesaris is the best I could come up with

I was a kid in 1981 and Cuda was probably a baby. That’s why he couldn’t remember...
