I just don't use straws. You can't modulate your own lips properly? One of the most wasteful things on planet Earth.

C’mon man, straws have many benefits.

You can jam one end into your armpit and blow on the other for endless armpit fart hilarity.

It's not the only problem. They're difficult for most recycling places to recycle, because they're too small for the automated machines (same with bottle caps.) So they just end up in the landfill anyway. And pollution from a landfill can end up all over the place, if a given landfill isn't up to modern safety/containment standards.

What do I think? I think it has limited merit and is fueled mainly by the viral social media machine combined with our collective goldfish-like attention span and desire to feel like we're doing something good in the face of unending sh*t.

    Well…

I’d sooner listen to the reasoning behind the legislation to limit plastic waste than someone with an angry typing finger and a twitter account. I don’t have the figures on the sheer volume of all worldwide disposable plastic production compared to the volume of car or consumer electronics production (which are both making great strides in recyclability)… and neither do most people.

I’m not trying to discredit this opinion. It’s probably got a lot of truth behind it, but that truth is probably by accident rather than design. I’m attempting to point out that it might be more worth everyone’s time to look into the side of the story that undertook many hours of evidence gathering, assessment and debate and wasn’t hastily bashed out in five minutes.

There will always be complainers. Starbucks is under fire for trying to phase it out...

Anyway, non recyclable plastic thing for sure need to be cut back somehow.
