Found some video of myself at Sebring in 2002

So I was converting all my old MiniDv tapes to digital and unearthed about 20mins of footage of me driving at Sebring back in 2002 in my old beloved 1980 911.

To preface...from 1998-2002 I owned an older stock 911 as a daily driver. Got it for $13.5k. I joined the local Porsche club (probably the least affluent in the club) and started doing their Auto X and DE events. I started upgrading basic things like suspension, brakes, fluids etc as I put away a few dollars here and there in order to be more track capable but the engine and exhaust remained stock.

Anyways, Sebring was where our local chapter held their 1 day DE events a couple times a year and it was about 2 hours from my house. My car had street tires (regular RE71 tires I believe), and I drove it there with a small 2 gallon air tank, a cooler with lunch, drinks no A/C and that’s it. Compare this to everyone else trailering their dedicated track cars with track tires etc etc. Just painting a picture of what to expect in the video. Since it was my daily driver I also drove a little more conservatively than most. I was checked out to drive in the solo group, there is no racing permitted and all passing had to be done only if the driver ahead waved you by. And the rule was if someone caught up then you had to wave them by.

My car handled great but only had about 200hp at the wheels so I got passed often on the long Sebring straights.

    Here is the slowness...but funness

Yeah. Can’t compete with all that money. You can hear my tires squealing...i ran hard in the turns but didn’t really go as fast as I could in the long straights because it was my daily driver and I wasn’t redlining it every shift.

This is why I loved my MX-5. You didn't need a ton of power, even moving around town at 35mph was fun.
