Thump, thump, dip, boom. Music with great basslines.

There's a metal thread and I think an EDM thread. There might also be a classical music thread somewhere in the forum.

But here in cubicle world, sometimes a good bassline ups your productivity. Or maybe it doesn't make a difference in productivity but a good groove can help break the keyboard-crunch tedium.

Anyway, I have tremendous respect for professional musicians, and i know that hit singles do require a certain mix of ability and thoughtfulness in the composition, for example, Corky James, the guy who recorded most guitar parts of Avril Lavigne's Let Go, rarely gets the praise he deserves, IMO. I was thinking, Sting always gets flak for his bass, but is he really that bad? So i caught this clip of him playing Higher Ground and Roxanne with Stevie, and he is a pretty great bassist.

Do you guys have anything to add? And by that I mean song suggestions or ideas on the subject.

I have two right off the top of my head.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers: Walkabout
Rage Against the Machine: Take the Power Back

    I love a good bassline.

    Thanks, Joe.

Live at La Cigale 2006 by the RHCP is bookmarked, but the bass is not that well-recorded; The Bee Gees cover is a must-see frusciante moment though.

Rush has some good bass stuff as well.

That RHCP song is on the One Hot Minute album in case you wanted a clean recording.

Nice, Rich. Wanted to see how long the string of old white guys could go before being interrupted.
