Turns out it's not pneumonia she was originally diagnosed with either. They said it could be COPD, or bronchitis, or allergies, or maybe some other undetected pneumonia. But, despite feeling like she couldn't breathe, her oxygen levels are apparently fine. Gave her steroids, an inhaler, some cough medicine, and a second antibiotic and she's now on her way home. The feeling like she couldn't breathe could be part of a panic attack over everything that's happening, I know people who've had that and it turned out just doing things like meditation fixed it, so I'm hoping that's the case here.

Do very much appreciate the thoughts/prayers/wishes. This is almost the exact same time of year where my wife was supposed to go for a week or so to Ohio for her aunt, and that turned into weeks that eventually ended in her aunt passing away. It's bringing back a lot of bad memories. Back then there were no vaccines, neither of us had been on a plane since the pandemic started, and Ohio isn't known for its respect for the virus, so I was pretty freaked out that one of them would get covid. Spending a fair amount of today assuming that everyone had was not the easiest.

Glad it turned out not to be covid. All the best to both of them.

Quebec man punches nurse over Covid vaccine shot

    *sigh*

America's not the only place with crazy anti-vaxxers.

I think this proves that people are pretty similar across borders... from crazy toilet paper runs to anti-vax nutcases...

Still, I think it'd be worthwhile to investigate deeper as to why people go crazy like that... rather than just brush them off as crazies and wish they'll go away or mandate problems away...

Obviously, they are not going away anywhere and mandates will probably only amplify their oppositions. I don't know how, but we'll have to figure out a way to deal with them and help rebuild trust somehow. I think it's the lack of trust that's fueling these events.

Of course there are times when people are just crazy and need medical attention, but surely not half of our population need to be locked up.

Whatever it is, the meds prescribed in the ER seem to be doing the trick, she's improving rapidly. Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone.
