10000 cases of the COVID variants in Florida.

Nevermind the governors foolish measures; decrying mask mandates, encouraging complete opening of the economy and unfettered socialisation in the midst of a pandemic, etc.

I can’t be bothered by Florida at the moment.

Nearly a quarter of our new cases are children now! And we are still pushing to reopen schools…

Until my kid can be vaccinated, if they insist on sending kids to school, we’ll just have to home school I guess…

I think we’ve done a pretty good job protecting our seniors, but the trend now is that more and more younger patients are being admitted to hospitals.

As long as it doesn’t strain our healthcare system, I suppose it’s not a problem. However, since we live in a free nation, I can see expensive hospital bills ahead for a lot of folks.

Wouldn't that be expected somewhat, though? As older people are vaccinated they'll be less of a percentage of the new covid cases, so a greater portion of them will come from a group that is universally unvaccinated.

A few months ago, if children were 5% of our new cases in LA county, that'd be 1,000 children a day, now 25% would be less than 100 a day.

So with such expectations, do you think pushing for school reopening is a wise thing to do? Schools are heavily financially incentivized along with bunch of angry parents wanting them to reopen.

Until kids get their vaccines, my recommendation would be to not reopen schools, but who the hell am I.

I'm pretty sure I'm unqualified to answer that question, mostly because I'm not an infectious disease expert and also I don't have kids. Just noting that children being a higher percentage of new infections when they remain a cohort that's 100% unvaccinated and the infection rate is incredibly low isn't necessarily evidence that things are getting worse or even particularly bad. Given the contrived example I put up above, you could both say that the share of new cases that are children has risen to 500% of what it was a few months ago, but you could also say that the rate children are being infected has gone down by 90%.

Your statements make sense. You are also very humble to claim that you are unqualified to answer the question.

However, my point is this… as head of your household, next time when we have a respiratory virus spreading around and qualified agencies such as WHO and CDC telling you that you don’t need masks, will you listen to them?

Also, for the sake of argument, let’s assume you have a kid, and we don’t have a vaccine yet, would you also trust our government to send the kid back to school?

Anyway, there’s really no right or wrong answer. In a way, I’m glad we live in a relatively free nation. I don’t have to send my kid back if I don’t have to… or could afford not to.

Having a kid doesn’t make me more qualified to answer the question, I just need to make the wisest and safest decisions for my kid. Pushing to reopen schools to me it’s almost like Florida inviting spring breakers to come without masks.

If time goes by and Florida is safe, then perhaps someday I’ll visit Florida too. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait and see… since we’re not experts, we can only rely on hindsight… and I hope hindsight is not always like 2020!

However, my point is that you are doing the thing you always do. The only part of what I am discussing with you is this:

My only response is that an increased share of new cases amongst children is likely expected. You, however, want to get into a protracted argument over whether your kids should go to school and our opinions about the validity of advice from the WHO and the CDC.

This is very similar to my last thing, where I just wanted to know why you linked to that one article, and you were very effective at repeatedly shifting the conversation to something you felt like arguing about despite the fact that nobody was arguing it against you. You then seemed to insinuate that it was my fault that the argument happened.

Once again, nobody is arguing about this with you. I do not have a solid opinion of what you should do with your kids and school. I solely and only pointed out that the fact that a greater share of new infections is happening amongst children is not only not an immediate cause for concern but is likely expected.

I hope I've learned my lesson here. I will not be engaging you in this, so I suggest you drop it.

Facts are great, I’m not disputing your facts, but I also need to know what to ‘do’ with my life.

You can’t just tell me I don’t know what you should do and I don’t know what would I do, but you got your facts wrong. Okay, thanks for telling me that. But is that really helpful to anybody?

I’m just on the opposite extreme of the antimaksers/anti vaxxers when it comes to our government response. I also don’t care if it’s the Trump nor Biden admin, Biden is definitely better, but not one that I have absolutely no complaints.

You seemed very focused on useless facts when responding to my post. I never said the article fully agreed with me, just glad to see someone, not right wing, would still complain about CDC. So you know that article wasn’t that political… Also, no shit overall confirmed cases are low at the moment, even for children, but fact remains that more and more of these cases are getting younger. You don’t know if this ‘expectation’ is worrisome or not, you just know that I got it wrong somehow. But this expectation worries me, get it? Do you have facts that’ll make me feel safer to send my kid to school? If you yourself also dont know what to do or what I should do, then yeah, maybe you shouldn’t respond and just ignore my posts as stupid rants? How dare I question our government’s authority, right?

Are we really expecting low confirm cases in the future? This is something we don’t really know right? If this overall # rises, that will means more and more young people and kids will be infected right?

I’m not here to argue about just facts at the moment. If you do have facts that can help ease my concerns about the future, that’d definitely be more appreciated. I’m just more concerned about what we ought to do. Based on missing incomplete facts…
