I知 up to week 3 of my lab skills course. My weekly routine is:
Sunday: mid-afternoon get on a train and head to Brisbane
Monday and Tuesday: classes day 1 and 2 then head home to Gold Coast Tuesday night
Wednesday and Thursday: do a bit of study and get through my assessments
Friday and Saturday: polish off assignments if needed but try and keep them aside to do mostly fuckall

Biggest challenges are getting myself around on public transport with a gammy leg (which is getting easier by the week) and staying awake in class (turns out a difficult part of life is retraining myself to meet a schedule ) but neither of these are insurmountable problems.

Classes so far have covered a lot of theoretical and admin stuff. Week 1 was health and safety which was a huge snooze fest. But last week we moved onto the structure of atoms, which is right in my wheelhouse, and then delved into the beginnings of mathematics. This week the maths got deeper and I知 getting more interested. Last week I built my own standard deviations calculator in Google Sheets (Excel for people smart enough to avoid subscribing to MS Office) and it came in REALLY handy today. I知 even helping fellow students to try and understand what SDs are all about. I致e got my assessment for the record and present data unit ready to hand in tomorrow, where we will also delve into acids and bases. Chemistry time!

Next week will be time to cover assessments for the first few modules then after that I知 pretty sure we will finally be able to get our PPE-shod hands dirty and do some practical lab stuff.

In general I知 feeling really good about doing this course. Probably one of the best decisions I致e ever made, though not without the caveat that the opportunity to do so mostly came from the big accident I had a year ago.

There's a famous chinese proverb based on a fable that goes like this:

Sāi Wēng lived on the border and he raised horses for a living. One day, he lost one of his prized horses. After hearing of the misfortune, his neighbor felt sorry for him and came to comfort him. But Sāi Wēng simply asked, “How could we know it is not a good thing for me?”
After a while, the lost horse returned and with another beautiful horse. The neighbor came over again and congratulated Sāi Wēng on his good fortune. But Sāi Wēng simply asked, “How could we know it is not a bad thing for me?”
One day, his son went out for a ride with the new horse. He was violently thrown from the horse and broke his leg. The neighbors once again expressed their condolences to Sāi Wēng, but Sāi Wēng simply said, “How could we know it is not a good thing for me?” One year later, the Emperor’s army arrived at the village to recruit all able-bodied men to fight in the war. Because of his injury, Sāi Wēng’s son could not go off to war, and was spared from certain death.
Just cherish and enjoy the moment dude! Yes, the decisions we make are within our control and will have consequences..., but when it comes to fortunes, whether good or bad, just gotta roll with the punches and hope for the best.

Positive thoughts and prayers will be sent your way!
