I've not gone for the X-E2 yet, and ^^ that is certainly interesting. But, I dunno - I still think I'll regret not going for a FF camera.

I'll let you know once I start shooting with APS-C again.

Depends on what you shoot/how you shoot. But don't you have like the best of the best? Seems it'd be a step down, unless you're looking to save weight.

hehe. I think I want my cake and to eat it. I want FF, but I want a small compact body/system.

I did really like the X-E2. Wondering whether the new Fuji will prompt a bit of a price reduction?

I do have very good stuff. The main aim would be to save some weight and space when travelling with a child (or later, two). Or if we're just faffing around in the park, or even mountain biking. The 5D3 w/grip and 24-70/2.8 was KILLING me when I was biking around NZ, although admittedly I did get some super high-quality (technically, but not artistically) shots with it.

I think realistically I might end up with 2 systems.

    XT-1
    23/1.4
    56/1.2
    18-55/2.8-4
    28-135 weather-sealed (travel lens)

    5D3 w/grip
KEEP: 24-70/2.8 Mk I which lives on it (for kid photos with mad DOF, some action shots)
    KEEP: 480EX
    KEEP: 200/2.8 (sports, awesome value)
PROBABLY SELL: 24/1.4 Mk I (to fund purchase of the Fuji 23/1.4 as I have taken about 50 shots with it over the last 2+ years and I originally bought this to use with my EOS 20D - so going with the Fuji lens would be full circle)
SELL: 28-300 IS (to fund Fuji gear and to be replaced by the Fuji 28-135 anyway)
SELL (for a pittance): Ancient, scratched 28-105
SELL (again for a pittance): EF-MFT2 or whatever infrared projection thing to aid focusing

The Markins etc. plates I have are all reusable on the Fuji. I could sell my 1Ds3 but... DAT BODY... and I could sell my 20D w/grip, but it's so ancient I might as well keep it and let my daughter play with it if/when she starts getting interested in proper photography with DSLRs. And/or weightlifting.

I also didn't fully realise, until just now, that the A7R is actually slightly smaller than the X-E2. Hmmm.

There's the Sony A7/r, but other than the 35mm, the lenses can get a bit big. Also, there's only 3 lenses available now, with two more on the way... Sony has promised 15 total by the end of 2015, though.

Yeah, I did briefly read about that, but, that kinda money for a body -- I dunno. Don't get me wrong, it's a great quandry to have but yeah. I've a list of wants that can get filled by both the X Fuji range and also going FF Canon. I do yurn for small aperture FF sensor DoF tho', big time. Always going to crave that.

That little X-E2 is so perfect for my use tho'.

For shits and giggles, here's the FF equiv of Fuji's lenses, in terms of focal length and effective depth of field (not actual exposure). Results are rounded to closest "normal" mm length and aperture value.

    Fuji-------------FF
    14mm f/2.8 = 21mm f/4
    18mm f/2.8 = 27mm f/3.2
    23mm f/1.4 = 35mm f/2
    27mm f/2.8 = 40mm f/4
    35mm f/1.4 = 50mm f/2
    56mm f/1.2 = 85mm f/1.8
    60mm f/2.4 = 90mm f/4

    Zooms (more exact numbers)

    10-24mm f/4 = 15-36mm f/6.3
    16-55mm f/2.8 = 24-82mm f/4
    18-55mm f/2.8-4 = 27-82mm f/4-6.3
    50-140mm f/2.8 = 75-210 f/4
    55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 = 82-300mm f/5-7.1

Italic is scheduled for release in 2014. The 56mm and 10-24mm are due in February-April sometime, the two zooms are due in the second half of the year. So, in terms of wanting tiny depth of field on a Full Frame camera, you'll have to keep those conversion numbers in mind to get the benefit. The A7's 35mm f2.8, for example, has a larger depth of field than Fuji's equivalent, 23mm f/1.4. On the other hand, the A7s 55mm f1.8 has a smaller depth of field than Fuji's equivalent, 35mm f/1.4.

And really that's just touching on two mirrorless systems. There's way more choices if you go DSLR. And you could even look at Sony's NEX line, Samsung's NX, or a variety of Micro Four Thirds. Fact is, though, you're not going to find cheap, full frame, sharp and fast glass, and tiny in the same package, unless you go with a non interchangeable lens camera, and then your only choice would be the Sony RX1, I think.

    That's really useful, bro, thanks.

So, light, cheap, fullframe, sharp, fast glass, tiny. Choose three.

Complicating matters, I suppose, is that you could probably use other mfgers lenses (to some extent) with both systems, although I would think that's difficult for Canons (no aperture ring on most or all EOS lenses).

    Revised ideal Fuji setup:
    35mm f/1.4 = 50mm f/2
    56mm f/1.2 = 85mm f/1.8
18-135/3.5-5.6 OIS = for travel and h4rdc0r3111!11!1!1 weathersealing
    16-55mm f/2.8 OIS = 24-82mm f/4 (should be MEGAPRO AMIRITE)
