If I was braver and had more play money, I'd be *really* tempted by this 90% 1M conversion for that price.

Rare Volkswagon Quantum Station Wagon with 75,000 miles and non-turbo diesel engine and 4 speed transmission from a low mileage 1981 Dasher from Georgia. New shocks in back and new alternator and radio also. Runs great but had an intermittent starting issue so put a heavier bypass switch on the dash to fix the problem. Good interior needs a headliner though. Great mileage (43-45 mpg) and fun to drive. Old Turbo engine available. Also have the 81 VW Dasher Hatchback with title but without engine. Will trade for tools or things that go boom.

Someone locally is selling a "1977 Subaru wagon." No photos, but they claim it ran when parked 20 years ago. $700. If I was interested in a resto project, I would drag it home.

That would be a nightmare - I'm all for it!
Growing up, One of my friends parents had one of about that year. I assume the awd was the main selling point as they lived *way* out in the country, and this was long before awd suvs other than like the jeep wagoneer or suburban**, which were expensive and pretty rare in my neck of the woods. I remember it as being dangerously slow even in the context of early 80s malaise automobiles - Like, I remember being in the back seat and it was a bit of a knucklebiter getting on the double-nickel (55mph) county highway on the way back into town.

**I've never noticed that subaru and suburban are only separated by 2 letter before.

if that was near me, I'd have to go look at it. Around here they all melted in mother earth due to the rock salt.
