That thing is begging for a recent motor swap. Very cool!

What, you don't want to rock a 255-cube V8?
Summit carries cams for the 4.2L V8 Edlebrock carries intake & heads, carb & headers -- basically everything you can do to a 302 you can do to the 255 (to keep it numbers-matching at least).
How much power do you want?
EDIT: Here's at *least* a $20K example with a fairly monster 302. "Power Output = 307 Rear Wheel Horsepower & 278 Rear Wheel Torque."
Why bother?

1988 Suzuki Samurai in mint condition! https://columbia.craigslist.org/cto/6117658781.html
The really astounding thing about that Samurai is that it's located on a barrier island like that. When I worked in that environment the sea spray, which is a fine mist that settles hundreds of yards from the break, ruined everything in a matter of a few years.
When you lift the hood on that '79 Cobra, it should look like this:
Classic b00st.
I love the idea of that, but not the reality. I wanna drive the thing, and blow-through carbs, um, blow. Even just a straight-up carbed 255 or 302 is a smog nightmare. At least an injected 5.0, but really, if you're going to swap might as well get something from this century.
Well that car needs a full resto -- and I like period-correct hot rods. #shrug
Having the stock 4.2L rebuilt to bit hotter specs making 225-250ish HP would be ideal. Then the Paxton blow-through carb kit? 350+ HP all day!
I'm not sure you can get 225hp out of a 4.2l pushrod and still have the headroom for 10-12psi from a non-intercooled supercharger. Sounds iffy. (Or, I guess, real 'spensive!)
