Yeah, it should be fun and if I can make friends with the drone possessors, I might be able to borrow them to get nice, clear aerial shots of digs in progress which will make presentations a little more interesting.
Hmmm. I wonder if anybody makes a >1 meter photo scale/north arrow.

Just have an intern lay down and point.

FWIW, we've been using a lot of drone orthophotography at Oroville. They've also done a bunch of LIDAR surveying (also via drone) and produced 3D site models at a very high resolution. It's super cool stuff.

Sadly, our undergrads are not of a standardized size. Lidar seems like it would be the bomb for landscape feature/form surveys - I'm not sure what exactly the Geography department has equipment-wise (when I was finishing up my geog minor, there was a single post-doc screwing with drones, and I'm not even sure if he's still around), but something that would do lidar would be perfect.

Carlo, the guy was in his early 70s when he installed the roof, I doubt he's in business anymore, if he's even still alive.

Guy came today and fixed what needed to be done.

Sigh. Not sure if she's just playing hard to get or if she's just not interested but too polite to say so.

Burger King ad taking over Google Home devices.

    http://www.spin.com/2017/04/people-a...urger-king-ad/

First, I think this was really stupid of BK to try, but I also think it's a sign of something...where too much automation and technology is a bad thing. I don't own one of these devices and don't see a need for it...at least not one that's always linked to the internet. I've heard of similar issues with Alexa and the Xbox Kinect.

If I had a local "Jarvis" system that was offline unless I specifically requested outside data, that would be fine.

If anyone has seen the new Pennzoil Commercial with the yellow Viper, that's filmed in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, and everytime I see it, I laugh because of how much traffic there normally is in all of those areas. Also, I love going through that tunnel at full throttle in my bikes and car. Good times.

Also, I love the little RC camera units they used.

I just played the ad and it didn't work, then read that Google intervened and disabled the ad from being recognized. My home will light up, listen then just do nothing. I repeated the same words, and it worked. That is actually pretty neat that google appears to have made the home recognize that specific voice pattern. Overall, I think it's a pretty clever idea from BK, but I don't like that they edited Wikipedia to do it (which is against the rules).

But your point is spot on about too much automation and tech being bad.

I don't think it will be long until you can tell these things to respond only to your voice after doing a few calibration phrases.
