    20 years ago I quit my job (3rd job and in it for 7 years) and worked on the Sydney Olympics. Id been out of high school for almost 20 years.

    I don't get mandatory minimum square footage for houses.

    Minimum in the county I live in is 900 square feet for a house. I can however rent an apartment that's as small as 350 square feet in the same area.

    What gives? Why can't I build a simple 1 bedroom or something that's the same size as an apartment?

    My house was 672sqft, but it was built in 1950. Otherwise I'd have had to remodel/expand.

    We just bought a 750sqft house but we're basically doubling it with an addition.

    That's a very dumb bylaw. Doesn't surprise me though. Encourages gentrification in a way, it eliminates frugal, lower income people who want to build a small house on a patch of land. Or a trailer, for that matter.

    "Tiny Houses" are a growing trend in this area.
