Today in '63, John Surtees takes his first F1 win by taking the spoils at the German GP. Jim Clark finishes second, the only time he stands on the second step of the podium in his F1 career.

SPA '63 After starting eighth on the grid Clark passed all of the cars in front of him, including early leader Graham Hill. About 17 laps into the race, with the rain coming down harder than ever, Clark had lapped the entire field except for Bruce McLaren almost 5 minutes behind.
SPA 1965 Jim tried the Bell Bubble and the new aeroscreen during dry practice. Liked the Screen but not the Helmet In the rain, and with a third of the race to go, the Lotus driver was leading Jackie Stewart by 1 minute and 20 seconds. Jim eased off and still won by 45 seconds

#OnThisDay in '66 Brabham won the #GermanGP at Nürburgring in a Brabham BT19, after pole-man Clark (Lotus 33) crashed out uncharacteristically. 2nd & 3rd were the Cooper-Maserati T81s of Surtees & Rindt. I've pictured Rindt because it was his 1st GP podium & it's such a mega pic!
