I managed to resist buying the Top Gun pack for Ace Combat 7. But at least I've now started playing it with my HOTAS setup.

FSX is $4.99 on Steam. Might grab it and take a look.

It's not bad for what it is, but it basically takes almost no advantage of GPUs so it still runs really poorly even on modern hardware.

Heaps of mods for FSX, as far as I know. Many more than FS2020.

It's the Assetto Corsa of flight sims. Whatever you want is available, even supersonic hot air balloons.

Yeah,I thought about it a bit and decided to pass. I only want updated flight sim software so I can train for flight school, I really only need one or two aircraft. Might as well use the most recent platform.

I used to be really into flight sim stuff but then I found iRacing and the flying stuff fell off. Now that I'm trying to buy a plane in the next 5-10 years I'll likely circle back and start 'training' again.

If the plane you buy isn't a golden dick with wings, I'll be sorely upset.

I think I have my purchases lined up. I bought MSFS GOTY PD edition and installed that first, before any of the hardware came.
I bought the Just Flight PA-28-161 Warrior II as it's close to the plane I plan to train in. Though the one in real life is a 181 which has a bigger motor. It shouldn't matter for me, I'm more interested in the cockpit equipment. This third-party add-on plane includes the Garmin GPS that is in my trainer which helps a ton. https://www.justflight.com/product/p...ight-simulator

I went with the Honeycomb yoke and switch panel that I'm pairing with a Saitek single-engine throttle. I plan to use my sim racing fanatec pedals as rudders, and I have a button box with a bunch of toggles and radial knobs that should come in handy for stuff like switching radios.

Everything was delivered over the weekend I just need to sit in the sim and work on the button mappings.
