I'm debating getting my wife a new phone. Her Moto X Pure's charging port is worn out, so micro-USB cables just kinda fall out if the phone is bumped while charging (a frequent occurrence with a toddler in the house). I'd like to spend under $300 since all my traveling this month wasn't cheap.
32 GB/2GB RAM Moto G5 Plus can be had for $200 at Costco, meanwhile, BH Photo has the 64 GB/4GB RAM G5 Plus for $250 and last year's Z Play for $280.

We had the same issue with the Moto X charging ports (as well as with basically every Samsung phone we've ever had). It's a little over your budget, but supposedly you can get a refurbed 128gb Pixel XL for about $360: http://www.androidpolice.com/2018/01...-coupon-codes/
I am incredibly happy with mine, fwiw.

I'm not sure if I'm real keen on a refurb phone with a non-user replaceable battery.

Fair. Figured I'd throw it out there as I paid significantly more for it and do not regret my purchase at all, but that doesn't rule out better phones/deals.

A dark horse enters: manufacturer refurb LG V20 can be had for ~$200. It wasn't as good overall as the other flagship phones of the era (Galaxy S7, Pixel), but it's still got 64GB of storage and a Snapdragon 820.

After consultation with the wife, the V20 is bigger than she'd like. We're pretty familiar with that form factor since my old Nexus 6 was almost the same size and she used it while her Moto X Pure was away for warranty work.
I ended up ordering a new Moto Z Play on eBay for $250.

Understandable. I do like the S7's size.

Since we don't have an iPhone thread I'm just going to jack this one:
Switched carriers and was going to get low end androids and ended up with iPhones since they were almost free ($400 off promo) and its camera seemed to be way better than anything else for indoors (plus it's not huge).
What should I not bother trying researching since it doesn't exist in the Apple world? Notifications bar, clock widget, settings shortcuts, ... ?
To appease the fandriods; 'boy this Apple phone only has 1GB of RAM and a 1,810 mAh battery' (the slightly cheaper Moto e4 plus has 3GB and 5,000 mAh)

I'm seriously considering getting a V30. My S7's battery life is horrific nowadays.
