Earthquake!

Central CA had a sizable one this AM and lots of aftershocks... I didn't feel anything...

Anyway, 2020 is not even half way over... wonder how many more disasters we can cram within the year...

Can’t remember the last time we had an earthquake here. They seem cool. The small ones I mean.

We had a 5.6 way back in 1989. Killed 13 people.
Thats the only one Ive felt here.
But since every single other thing in this country tries to kill you, having the ground on your side is bloody good.

There was a quake out near Fraser Island in 2015, a 5.7 The epicenter was under the ocean about 400km from where I live.

It felt and sounded like a large truck was driving past my house. It was odd, and I remember it clearly.

A few minutes later a news search confirmed it was an earthquake.

Ok so we just had an earthquake.
It was a feeble 3.2, but... it was less than 5km from here.
I heard a rumble, then a loud bang, then it shook for a couple of seconds then another bang.
Seriously thought it was an explosion, not an earthquake as it seemed louder than shakier.

I looked out the window for our gas tank, then ran around outside to see if there was a fireball. Thought it might have been a meteor strike. Weather is bad, cant see more than 100m due to mist, but looked hard to see if there was a glow anywhere!

Then checked a local facebook group and it was felt and heard all over the area.
Oh - just now as Im typing, its been recentred even closer to us. And moved it from 10km deep to 5km deep.

Damn that was freaky.
Ive been in much larger magnitude quakes, but never had one with loud sound before.

I just got a new office chair. It rolls super easily, much more easily than my previous one. I was sitting at my desk yesterday and thought I felt a really minor earthquake, but my wife felt nothing. Neither did any of my coworkers on slack who are in the area.

Turns out there was a 3.0 about seventy miles away. This chair must amplify earthquakes or something.

Unfortunately, Haiti is on the convergence of the North American and the Caribbean plates, so the chances of it getting a tectonic break are slim to none.
