I got the game to launch yesterday. Believe it or not, the "sound playback device" problem was that I didn't have any speakers plugged in to this PC. I had moved them to the docking station of my laptop for working from home. I don't know why that should matter, but plugging them in allowed the game to launch. I played long enough for "T." to get killed in Ludendorff mostly due to my not knowing the PC controls well enough to get out of trouble. I haven't messed with it again. If it will stop working in seven days, I probably won't bother.
The graphics looked great, but afterwards my PC - one with only a meager video card - sounded like a jet engine cooling down.

The game is working on PC for me. I've finished the first couple of missions as Franklin with Lamar and Simeon. Controls are different and I'm seeing some new/different cars (such as an AMC Pacer, perhaps an early '80s Mercedes Benz 240 sedan, and I thought I caught a glimpse of a late '60s Dodge Charger), but otherwise it's the same game. I'm poor! Ha ha. But at least I know where to find things this time around - guns and armor, at least.

This game is a masterpiece. If there's one better, I'm not aware of it.

Especially since I was considering buying it a few months ago when it was on sale in the Steam store
Now I just have to buy another big fuckoff hard drive for my PC. A 1TB SSD just doesn't cut it as a game storage drive unfortunately.

Man, I am the WORST at making decisions. Finally got through all the character creation screens. Oddly enough, my "parents" in the game have the same names as my kids in real life. Didn't notice that until I was reviewing everything. Now they want me to name my character. What do people use? Real names, like I do here? Joke names like Slowpoke or Violent Vince? Silly question, perhaps, but I thought the name I had to choose while I was going through all those reCAPCHA screens before doing anything else would be my in-game name, but apparently not.
And my real question, if I may: can I change the character's name and appearance once I start playing Online or is it locked in forever?
