No, and yeah. The only reason it'd be on the table is if it's materially lighter. I don't know anything about it, it's just another "compatible" engine to look at. Actually, another reason I'd consider it is if it can be built to rev more than the larger motor. I'm really not opposed to HP so much as torque, and I haven't looked *at all* into effective gear ratios... I have some concerns that a V8 T5 in front of a XR 7.5" diff (3.64:1 IIRC) is going to create some wack ratios. May not be a problem, but it's something I need to bear in mind. Anyway, point being is if the 4.8l could make 5.3l power and 20% less torque, it might be worthwhile.

How much are you planning on for the engine? I remember looking heavily into those for a kit build I was kicking around a while ago.

I remember finding running examples for 800-1000

That's the feedback I've been getting - $600 to $1500 depending on specifics and what's included.

It looks roughly like $800 for the motor, $400 for accessories (including wiring harness), $100 for the ECM, $600-$800 for EFI modifications, $200 for the conversion mounts. That's a 520lb, 300hp V8 setup.

An alternative looks like $600 for the motor, $200 for the accessories, $200 for the ECM, $700 for the bellhousing & clutch bits. That's a 350lb, 250-280hp Saab motor.

I am sort of talking myself into the Saab solution.

Thing is, $2000 into the Lima probably could get me 250-300 reliable-ish horsepowers, but the power band is no good at that point, and it weighs 450lbs. The attraction of the swap is purely a completely stock engine. Okay, a 280hp Saab motor means adding some boost, but no other mods are even remotely required.

    Food for thought.

Edit: Just for clarity, I like the core idea of a 2500lb, 300hp car. That's my target. Keeping weight down is more important that keeping hp up. I want to invent as little as possible, so using a T5 is super helpful. I want to tune as little as possible - I want factory reliability as much as possible in a little-driven but driven hard car.

Due to a favorable exchange rate, that $700 bellhousing is closer to $300.

    $2200 for a V8 vs $1300 for a XRSaabti

I am a few shots of bourbon away from ordering a bellhousing from the UK.

For real? Gonna be there next Wednesday through Saturday? I should be there Wednesday mid-day, have to drop the Sprinter in Oxnard, then I have the rest of Wednesday and all day Thursday free. Friday morning the girl is flying into Burbank and we're headed into the IE. Saturday morning back in Oxnard then heading back. Aside from the Sprinter drop and pickup and Burbank, I have no specific time table.

By "next", do you mean this coming? (7/12) In that case, yes. Family vacay... we fly out Sunday morning 7/16. Since you'll be stag, maybe want to meet at a food truck fest we were thinking of hitting on Wednesday evening?
And I don't know what "the IE" is. I'm from the OTHER sunshine state.

    Sending a DM.
