If I were Pelosi Schumer, I’d let him have his damn wall. As wasteful and ineffective as the walls going to be, this is not really something worth fighting for like that...

Wrong. If he get this, he'll do the same thing again for another stupid project
One has to pick the proper battle. If we’re talking about starting an unjust war or something totally unethical, then I’d understand. But it’s just a freaking wall. What harm would it cause?
Govt shut down probably caused greater harm to more Americans than building that wall.
The harm is exactly what MR2 said. It's essentially giving the hostage taker what he wants, which will encourage him to take more hostages. It would also set a hilariously awful precedent, that the president could just ram through whatever he or she wants by turning the screws on 800,000 workers who have no say in the matter.
The president is co-equal in the government with the house and senate. Giving in to this would essentially give the president a dictator-level power, and would literally degrade our entire system of government.
He also could have done it when the GOP was in control of both houses, except he couldn't because there already weren't enough of votes, OR he could have tried to do it in the 2 years he's been in office. Instead he waits until he can try to blame someone else.
That’s the thing. Now he has somebody to blame when he couldn’t get it done. If he gets the wall he wins. If he couldn’t get the wall, he won’t lose. While they play this political game, federal workers and the economy suffers.
But anyway, who cares about them workers. It’ll be wonderful if US economy tanks, because then dems will have a shot at winning the White House!
From Mario's link in post #12717: Business as usual, as usual.
I didn't need to comment, I guess, but I was struck by how little that article says and how it's just not news at all. I see lots of stuff like that and don't reply but lately I've been realizing that so many "Read this!" links are just worthless.
But, that's politics, I guess. I'm happier when I don't think/read/talk about it and should remember that.
Aww man, totally got busted not reading the article Mario posted.
I was kind of cryptic because I thought that if you'd hover over the phrase you'd know everything you needed to know from the actual URL.
