    Android Wear / Smartwatches

Rather than sully up the real watch thread, we can keep track of the coming deluge in here.

The Moto 360 is likely to go on sale next week or shortly thereafter, at $250. The launch event is September 4th.

To jump in front of that, LG has revealed the G Watch R, which replaces the 360's black strip at the bottom with a thicker bezel that has tick marks.

Samsung has announced a new, curvier smartwatch based on Tizen, their in-house OS, with its own 3G connectivity.

Wait. The Moto 360's screen doesn't fill the whole circle? Bastards! I knew it was too good to be true. Most of the mock up shots don't show this and have instead been teasing me with luscious full screen glory. This was a day one buy for me.

That LG looks awful and I don't really like non-circular faces. So I guess I'm out for this round of smart watches...

All of the photos they've shown of the 360 accurately represent the black bar at the bottom, at least the ones I've seen.

This is one of the earliest that I remember, it uses the black face to mask it somewhat but it's still obvious that the tick marks don't go all the way to the bottom.

This is the video from the first press release: http://motorola-blog.blogspot.com/20...-its-time.html

It's not clear, but at the end you get a couple quick spins of the same models that press image is from, with the tick marks not visible at the bottom.

Is there a reason for not filling the whole screen? I still want one.

That's where the ambient light sensor and connection from the display to the main board are, according to Motorola.

I think that LG watch looks fantastic. I was also thinking about looking into LG for my next phone...

Yeah, the design of that LG is the best out of the lot IMO. Having said that, it's highly unlikely that I'd get any of these.

LG has announced pricing for the G Watch R, EUR 299. It will probably be $350-$400 in the US, compared to $250 for the 360.

The one application I think the curved OLED screen is welcome.
