You guys have heard the joke that goes something like this, right?

Teenager: The radio is playing my favorite song!

Twenties: This bar is playing my favorite song!

Forties/Fifties, etc.: This grocery store is playing my favorite song.

Well, about two days ago I heard a blast from the past thinly bleating from overhead speakers and tried to google it right there in the store on my phone. All I could hear was "Yi yi yi yi, yi ya ya" and googling that didn't help much. Apparently there's at least one much newer song with some of those "words" in the title. The rest of the lyrics weren't really audible so that was the end of my search at the time.

Today it popped back into my head out of nowhere and I started searching again on a PC which is so much easier, obviously.

This is the one! It's kind of repetitive but it brings back high school memories. I once had it on cassette tape from recording it off the radio, but I don't think I knew the band name or the song name. That, and missing the first few notes of a song as you reached over to press down the Record and Play buttons, was just how it was back then.

I keep hearing the Muzak versions of my favorite songs. "Is this a saxophone version of California Uber Alles?!?"

I recently learned (two days ago) that the song Red Red Wine was actually originally written and sang by Neil Diamond back in the 60ís. I always thought UB40 created it, but it turns out theirs was just a cover.

I listened to the original and found it quite decent, even though I much prefer UB40ís version.

October 5th, 1982: The Smiths play their first live show. 1992: R. E. M. release Automatic for the People.

It is not okay not be gay today.

Edit: Mazzy Star's So Tonight that I Might See was also released on a day like today.

I accidentally got into Styx a bit recently. Enjoying Pieces of Eight, mostly off the strength of “Renegade”
