I wonder if that is area dependant. Western PA has been pretty reliable. I've mostly been sending certified mail (law firm stuff), though. Maybe they try harder when it's accountable.

I dropped it off Oct 8. It took until the 18th or so to be scanned in Redding CA. As of the 26th it has been scanned in Sacramento, about 150 miles south of Redding. It's supposed to end up in Indiana at some point...
I don't watch the news but I've been hearing Postal Service rates are going up and service is expected to be slower. This is getting comically slow. Eighteen days and still in the same state.

There's a Toyota engine with similar potential to a K series, called the AR series (2AR is common, 1AR less so). It can even talk to the Spyder dash with the right control box. It just doesn't sound anywhere near as good as a K2x. Getting more power out of it NA is being figured out right now, cams and a tune seem to be a big part of that. The turbo stuff was already figured out years ago with Papadakis Racing building the drift engines for the 5-door Corolla thingy that Ryan Tuerck now drives. IIRC they didn't have to strengthen the internals until they went beyond 800hp. The stockish engine is also fine on track for hours and hours without oil starving or anything. Seems pretty tempting especially with how fragile the ZZ engines are.

Oil analysis at last!
High levels of aluminum and iron and a couple other things. Note there's only 300 miles and 11 autox runs on this oil. The Universal Average column is based off of 6,100 miles interval.
I don't know what parts of this engine are made of what metals, precisely. I'd expect aluminum to be bearings, iron could be a cylinder liner, molybdenum I'd guess could be in high concentration in a high mileage oil but I'm just guessing there.
As far as I know there's no standard overbore for the 1ZZ meaning if the cylinder liner isn't perfect it's toast? I know that's the case for the 2ZZs. I want to rebuild this engine for learnings. It's looking like I'll at least be removing it and tearing it down to see for sure, and *then* deciding whether it's worth rebuilding. Perhaps my cheap Chinese boroscope could reveal really bad cylinder liners.

Moly could also be the liner, it's used primarily to add wear duration to alloys.

Learnings continue. My old scope isn't very useful for checking cylinder walls, I think the lack of light (the LED ring isn't bright enough) and the low resolution (640x480) just aren't enough. I did see that the top of the #2 piston was shiny, presumably from oil. This is the same piston that was 15psi down compared to the highest one on the compression test. There was no evidence of oil in the spark plug tube that would have fallen into the cylinder upon plug removal. I'd be surprised that, if oil is getting past the rings, it would still be there after the engine is off. My best guess is a valve stem seal. I don't hear much about those anymore in post-90s engines but I guess it can still be a thing?
The #2 plug.
I also found these dust patterns on the underside of the engine bay fuse box fascinating.
