Yeah, they are officially coming in iRacing in Season 3. As well as 3D grass, finally.
Also iRacing is going to partner with FIA and the iRacing Formula iR-04 is going to be renamed Fia F4 in Season 3.

iRacing to Partner with FIA for Authentic Formula 4 Experience

So far in Season 3 we will have:

Car model count bumped up from maximum of 8 to a maximum of 9
Ligier LMP3 (will race in VP Challenge, multiclass with GT4)
    Willow Springs track
    New Foliage system
iRacing Formula iR-04 renamed FIA F4 with new ties with FIA
Nurburgring Ringmeister new series (12 weeks on the same track but with different car each week)
Dirt Oval track dynamics will be majorly updated
Dirt Late Models will get New Damage Model

Upcoming confirmed tracks (most probably not in Season 3 but later on): Zandvoort rescan, Mugello, Misano, Portimao/Algarve, Pukekohe, Aragon and Ledenon.
Possible new cars coming in the future: Cadillac LMDh, Porsche 963 LMDh, Acura ARX LMDh, Pontiac GP Nascar Legends 1987, Micro 600cc, Toyota Supra GT4 Evo, Modern Arca and Gen 4 Cup update. And more.

    Also... Rain.
But not before way later on the year.

I’ve got a feeling that they’ll top out the GTP cars at two and save room for a pair of LMH cars to use for the European endurance series, because that list seems very IMSA-centric. For special events where both IMSA and WEC cars compete they will probably mix-and-match between the two for a unique grid.

We already have the Beemer and the Cadillac is basically a confirmation at this stage. I’m going to predict that the next cars will come from WEC. But I could be completely wrong given the suspected licensing deals between WEC and Motorsport Games.

Porsche and Acura are in the possible list of cars coming because some IMSA teams' members have said on Twitter, podcasts or interviews that iRacing did scan and/or sound record their team cars.
They can go around the Motorsport Games with the same loophole they used -and FIA never said anything about - with the Williams, Mclaren and now both the Mercedes F1 cars in the service: getting cars (3d model, sound, liveries and data) directly from a team instead than the series
Also Porsche has a long standing great relation with iRacing, so they can give the service whatever car they want.

Talking of real series: WEC next year is going to be LMH/LMDh and GT3 only. LMP2 are getting the axe and will be run only in ELMS. Possibly IMSA will follow suit.
LMP3 are scheduled to be moved in VP challenge multiclass with GT4 already in IMSA, in Europe they already compete only in ELMS and their own spec series, IIRC.
GTE got the axe in IMSA and will be out of their way next year in WEC. GOOD RIDDANCE. Useless dinosaur expensive cars, they won't be run anymore anywhere (that matters, at least).

IMSA licensing and FIA new partnership is great news for iRacing. Let's see if FIA can nudge ACO to cut ties and licensing with Motorsport Games.
NASCAR was smart and issued a NON-exclusive license to Motorsport Games back in the days, which is way it enjoys a decent relationship with iRacing.
Hopefully Indycar (and ACO as aforamentioned) will come to their senses.

ACC retains the SRO official licenses but with GT3 and GT4 being FIA validated (or whatever is the term) and being basically generic classes means you can have the cars in any other sim just losing the SRO official titles and such.

Supercars V8 are in the service as well as Stockcar Brasil but that not matter as much as they are niche (and Stockcar Brasil fans are better served at AMS2 which has a lot of brazilian tracks where the real series races).

I'm actually more excited about the bump in the car model list and the new shaders and foliage system.
iRacing must cater to every kind of PC because of its structure but let's start to cut off people racing with 15 year old potatoes or worse.
Just buy a new PC people: if you had the means to buy a cheap entry level wheels and pedals (I'm thinking a G29), you can upgrade or, surely better in the long term, buy a new basic PC.

Simracing is not as expensive and obscure to get in like decades ago, but still won't be as cheap as buying a second hand console with an used joypad, sorry folks, reality check.

I agree. It's a beast but I'm out of talent already driving the LMP2, so I will pass.
Oh, and yet another surprise by iRacing:
