Take a look at Chevy's aero package for road courses and short ovals. It's so...fidgety? It just has so many bits and bobbles all over it. I think I'll go look at 90s Indy/Champ Cars again.

It's almost like they've stuck it in a wind tunnel and gone "Hmm we'll add some shit here, put a hole there, bend that there and....Viola,we have an aero package!"

I thought engine manufacturer should just stick with engines. What are they doing with aero stuffs? They think they're in F-1 or something?

Brings some of the info you get while watching at home to the track!

Now that is fricken cool.

All the aero crap is just beyond hideous. They really need to knock this stuff off and come up with a simplified rule that will allow for beautiful looking cars.

I wonder how well you'd be able to actually see them, but that is a cool idea. The leader lights in ALMS were one of the best innovations for watching the race live.

Interesting concept!

However, I can see issues with it on ovals when the 3 or 4 cars end up side by side drag racing to the finish line. How will these LED indicators show position? They better have onboard computer sensors and GPS so that the cars can know exactly where it is on the track and where it is relative to each other... and then freezes the position indicator as soon as it crosses the finish line!

I'm sure they'll just be reporting out live timing and scoring, and it's not like they'll be used alone for official reviews.

And actually, the Sportscar version only updates a the start/finish, so when you have a battle going on, you might see the car with two lights in front of the one with one all of a sudden, because there's been a pass on that lap. I imagine these will be more real time, but who knows.

Justin Wilson is unconcious with a head injury at the hospital five minutes from my house after getting hit by debris at Pocono. Hopefully this isnt life threatening. :(

The Associated Press reports that IndyCar driver Justin Wilson succumbed to a head injury sustained in a wreck Sunday at Pocono Raceway. Wilson was 37.

IndyCar made an announcement this evening at about 9:10 p.m. EDT at the request of Justin Wilson’s family. IndyCar CEO Mark Miles made the announcement, remembering Wilson as “one of the most well respected, highly regarded, and loved people in the entire paddock.”

Driver and team owner Ed Carpenter also gave his respects during the announcement, describing Wilson as “a great professional driver and extremely good at his craft” and “a friend among everyone in the paddock.”

Wilson died at Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital in the company of his family. Following IndyCar’s announcement, the family released this statement:

This is just awful. I wonder if this will be the nail in the coffin for open wheel cars on circle tracks. Or at least Indycars. He was one of the very best on road courses. :(

Yeah he was such a cool, unflappable guy. :( When I was watching the Holmatro guys in a full on sprint for his car I instantly had Fontana '99 flashbacks. Glad to see (though not surprised) that he was an organ donor too.
