I have been reading about this, and I just don't see how it's a good deal unless you are a single user and use very little data and live in a metro area. At the minimum cost of $30 it beats everyone except MetroPCS. If you use 2 or 3gb of data it's about the same price as all the major carriers. The value falls apart further with multiple devices. It only works on one phone, which you have to provide and there are no subsidies. You're limited to Tier 2 networks leaving you with a blend of the worst coverage in America. I don't understand the play here... It's basically just a MetroPCS competitor except with data limits and refunds. Very weird.

I think the play is for them to test their software to get it done, and for people that do international travel since international text and data is no extra cost.

But it's definitely not for me. My $30 T-Mo plan has the stuff I need.

I guess the international stuff would be the angle. So weird.

They would also make the argument that you'd use a lot less data because of all the hotspots you'd be able to use. I think my data use is mostly at work or places with shitty WiFi only.

Yeah, but I think the counter to that is with AT&T & Verizon you get access to hotspots that aren't work and aren't home... eg, AT&T customers get access to hotspots at McDonald's & Starbucks. With Google I think you would need to find your own, yeah?

They say they have lists of millions of free public wifi with no logins that you can use. They don't give examples of where they are.

I have a similar plan and almost all of my data is through wifi at work & home. I rarely use more than 1 gb/month. But then again, I probably don't go out as much as most people.

Starbucks just switched from AT&T hotspots to google, for one.

Oh, I thought you meant as a competitor... That's neat that they are adding more coverage options. It was always annoying that Verizon sucked here and AT&T over there... Having all of these different carriers makes coverage a lot better.

Republic's new 3.0 plans (https://community.republicwireless.com/docs/DOC-2912#jive_content_id_Republic_Wireless_Clear_Choic e_Plans_FAQs)* are coming out in July (https://republicwireless.com/phones/), and they allow many newer phones to come over using a nano-sim card. And the phone I've been waiting to get, the Moto X Pure was $400, is only $240 today (http://deals.kinja.com/amazons-offering-some-insane-deals-on-the-moto-x-pure-1782483924) on Amazon.

I couldn't pass it up. :rawk:

*the new 3.0 plans don't have the rebate any longer, but they are $10 cheaper per month.
So, instead of $40/month for 2gb w/rebate, it's only $30/month for 2gb flat.

I'm trying to justify an S7. But I think 7 bills is a bit steep, for just wanting a 200GB phone...

I was contemplating the Edge. But, the price is too steep for me. :(

My main phone died on me, I'm trying to hold on strong and just use my backup until the new Nexus is released. It'll be about 5 years old by the time that happens, though.

Ooohhh, I might switch my and my daughters plan now. So, all 3 of us will be on Project Fi.

Starting Tuesday, customers who sign up for the hybrid cellular/Wi-Fi wireless service will be able to add more lines to their account, the company said in a blog post. The new group plan can include up to six people on one plan for an extra $15 a month per line. This price gets you Fi Basics, unlimited talk and text messaging. And just as with the individual plan, you can add 1 gigabyte of data for $10 a month.

If you use less data than you paid for, Google refunds the unused data to your bill.

That's a $5 discount from the $20 starting price for individual plans. The group option also allows a "manager" --aka mom or dad -- to manage and track data usage from a single account. Managers can see how much data each person on the plan is using, and limits can be set so that the person in charge can pause data service if someone on the plan goes overboard. If I can sell my MotoX, that is.

So I just found out you can add up 9 devices to your google fi for no additional charge (except maybe the price of the sim card?). I'm still thinking about switching when my contract is us (maybe it is already, need to check...). And I may get a tablet as well.

It need to be compatible with t-mobile. What does that mean? Can any unlocked LTE device work? Or do I need to buy one from t-mobile directly?

Any unlocked LTE phone sold in the US should work on T-Mobile bands, and newer ones will work on the 700 mhz band they've been using to expand their coverage lately.
