Yeah, I came up with that forehead-slapper while I was brushing my teeth last night. In my defense, 1) I have a cold and 2) I have The Old.

Anyone else think the updated physics made race cars way too easy? There appears to be zero need for TC anymore, and you can get away with some pretty aggressive driving. It's too easy to be on the limit - there's no edge, no fear factor, no sense of risk when you try to push that little bit more. And because of that, it's less interesting to drive and less satisfying when you do a good lap. The old physics weren't perfect but they were a lot closer to the real deal than this.

I continue to be happy with my PlaySeat Challenge.

The359, yeah the nose letters are a little blocky but the whole car looks amazing. It's one of the best meshings of old and new I've seen. I might switch it up for my next GT3 race, though, as there are a lot of really good 650S GT3 liveries out there.

And a work-in-progress of the 1984 version which reverses much of the livery and adds a color shift. Mostly a lot of retracing lines at the moment and deleting unnecessary decals. Unfortunately a lot of the pin stripes will need to be redone as they're not the same.

Based on the old Bernd Schneider CLK DTM from 2000/2001. I think the repetetive D2 pattern turned out pretty well actually, most of the ones I see other people making are actually too silver or chrome.

Literally did this in about 8 minutes. Since the Megane has become so dominant in Group 4, everyone uses it, so I decided to use one of the stalwarts of the Renault Trophy series, Oregon Team's color scheme they always use. They also have an RS01 now, so may need to try that...

Ooh lovely work. I love that D2 Merc, it's very faithful to the original.

I have to ask you though, where did you get the white PlayStation 2 logo for the Viper? I've been scratching my head all night in trying to either find one or upload it myself, because I can only find black ones. I'm at wits end because I haven't been able to find ANY way to easily create and load up a logo unless its black.

Can you upload PNGs with transparency intact?

CudaMan
December 6th, 2017, 08:30 AM
You can change the color of user-created decals after you apply them.

The359, I was going to ask how you made a color gradient but I think I figured it out. Large shape decals, a base color on bottom and then one of the fade shapes on top. Was it hard to line up the gradients as they wrapped up onto the roof or does the Porsche LMP not have a separate roof section for decals?

The359
December 6th, 2017, 10:22 AM
Yes, any decal you upload can then have it's color changed, so a black logo will work just fine.

Cuda, the gradient is actually even easier than that. I base painted the car in the blue middle color, then used the square gradient shape with the roof view to do two separate pieces, the green in the back and the dark blue in the front. Big enough square to cover the entire car, and setting the angle and depth to maximum actually covered the entire car at all angles. The tricky part is that the "Hood" on the 919 is considered to be the square-ish panel between the fenders and ahead of the windshield. I had to do a separate gradient square for that piece and just eyeballed it to line up the coloring with the rest of the bodywork. The "Other" on the car is also the two strakes on the opening in the side bodywork, but I just left them the base blue and it seems to work out.

The359
December 6th, 2017, 01:32 PM
The logos in the game, you can't change color. Logos uploaded by users can have their color changed, but only to a single color. If you want multiple colors, you either have to upload the logo as you want it or upload in various parts.

In the correctional update performed on December 6, we have found an issue where old records before the update are still listed in the Friend Rankings of the Campaign Mode.
This issue has been found in the following game modes:
Campaign Mode
・Driving School
・Mission Challenge
・Circuit Experience
This issue is planned to be fixed within a few days with another update.
Please note it is possible to continue to play the Campaign Mode in the meanwhile, but the records will be deleted at the time of the correctional update. (This will not have any effect to the status of Gold/Silver/Bronze prizes already acquired)
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Finally did my first online race. iRacing has served me well, I did poorly position-wise but avoided a lot of janky driving around me. Not to say that I didn't have my own janky driving, but I managed not to hit any other cars throughout the entire thing.

Also ended up next to last. I still have a hard time with the "tilt to steer" thing, but find it easier than using the thumbstick. More accurately, I feel like I have an easier time when things are going well of easing into a corner and then easing back out, but the second I have to countersteer it all goes to hell. Still, seems like my SR did well based on the little popups through the race, though I was unable to figure out the actual effect on it post-race.

I'm slowly learning all the fantasy courses, not knowing them has made me extremely hesitant to go online, I don't want to end up racing a bunch of real people on a track I don't know yet. Still, I managed to finally finish off all the license tests, so it's time to graduate to some real driving.

Seems like it takes forever to increase SR, but no time at all for it to drop. I had dropped down as far as D last week (!!) and am still trying to claw my way back out of C. At the risk of negatively impacting my DR, my favorite thing to do is practice without setting a qualifying time, start at the back of the pack, and see how many people I can pick off over the course of the race. Obviously that doesn't give me any chance at winning, but I can usually get past about half of the grid. A lot less chance of having some ingrate come bombing down the inside of an apex to use me as a braking point, which decreases the frustration potential significantly.

Had a bit of time at lunch today, jumped in to try the FoST daily race, had enough time left on the pre-race clock to get one full qualifying lap in. I think we all know by now that I'm not nearly as good a driver as the rest of you, but I posted what I thought was a decent lap, I predicted it was in the 6th-place range. Ended up qualifying 2nd, I was shocked. I was able to keep 2nd through the first half lap, right behind the leader, until they inexplicably cocked up the S-curve at the bottom of the downhill straight. I managed to hang on through my own cock-ups on the last lap to take the win. That is SEVEN WINS for the ol' Metal Detector. Should be able to hit 10 wins by Easter, I'm guessing.

In other news I'm quickly learning a few ins and outs of Adobe Illustrator. It is quite a challenge to get an SVG file down to less than 15kb. Sometimes you luck out and find the logo you need online and don't have to do any work before uploading; Wikipedia stores vector files of quite a few company logos, so it's a bit of a pro-tip to go a-searching there for high quality logos.

Nice work  I prefer the blue one!

That's perfect RWA. I feel your pain on trying to get those curves on the splashes of color and stuff right.

For me the colouring is actually the easy part. I’m well versed in that from practicing in Forza over the years. I was dreading doing the bonnet, because in all the reference photos I could find it looked like it had slight curves along its length, but it turns out that all I needed to do was place a big blue triangle, then a slightly smaller white one, followed by a slightly smaller red one. And I’m having fun discovering game’s way of dealing with overlapping body panels; that Leica logo behind the front wheel is occupying almost the same ‘space’ as the CAMS logo on the inside of that air channel. See if you can work that one out!

For me the most difficult part is trying to get decent quality logos fed into Illustrator and spat out as SVGs that still look good and come under the 15kb limit. I’ve spent hours and hours tinkering with vector settings only to end up with a garbled mess, but thankfully all I needed were the small logos. Single colour logos in higher fidelity like the Opti-Coat stuff are much easier to deal with. I would LOVE to be able to have access to the original proprietary artwork that these companies possess, as they would be professionally made and fully optimised.

1.10 update is out. Along with the 12 additional cars, one good addition is that the Kyoto Driving Park is now available in a combined layout, mixing the short semi-oval with the road course into an even longer road course. I don't particularly care about the short course much, but this makes the longer course far more interesting to run. On the down side it eliminates one of the more difficult and engaging corner combinations since that's where the two tracks combine.

Also noticed some of the AI cars in GT Mode use custom liveries, although these appear to be ones made by PD. I've seen a pink Toyota 86 GRMN several times now.

EDIT: They have also added brake marker boards to some corners, noticed so far on the Nurburgring, Suzuka, and Brands Hatch. Have been noticing the lack of them in the game for some time now.

Oh hello, now that there's a campaign mode and Skylines, i suddenly feel a desire to fire up the game for only the second time (first was launch day).

Must say, with all the handling etc patches they've done, i can actually control the freakin cars now! And can drive very easily in the in car view, which i find it slightly difficult at best, to do in any other videogame (even past GT's).
Much approve.

And the R32 GT-R sounds more realistic in this game than in any other game EVER. Very happy with sound. Not sure if it's 100% accurate because everyone i know with R32 GT-R's in real life has an aftermarket exhaust. But it's closer than any game has gotten so far. :)

And also the lowish speed handling is more realistic, it can power oversteer, and drift just like in real life instead of being an understeering dog like in other games/GT's.

But anyway, my first four pics, in order.

Naturally i had to park up two GT-R's in a New Zealand setting, for my first ever GT Sport photo.

I honestly think it's still the same model from Forza 3 or whenever it first came into the series, maybe with smoothed out polygons etc but not built from the ground up again like Polyphony claim they've done. The front bumper is too square, the indicators the wrong colour, headlights aren't as detailed etc etc.
Come on T10, fix the blimmen thing!

Hah:

https://wccftech.com/uncharted-director-slams-gt-sport-online/amp/

It’s rare to see developers openly criticizing each other’s work, particularly when they work for the same employer. In this instance, though, Naughty Dog’s Kurt Margenau (Co-Lead Designer of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Game Director on the recent Uncharted: The Lost Legacy) just couldn’t refrain himself from slamming GT Sport’s online-only save system.

That’s right, even with the recent addition of a single player mode GT Sport can still be saved only when connected to the game’s servers, which are however once again down. Margenau wrote “Whose idea was this?” before making a couple joke in subsequent tweets, the first one dubbing GT Sport a “photo car shoot simulator” (hinting at the game’s Scapes mode) and the second one mentioning that the main obstacle to getting his new Xbox branded Fanatec wheel working in GT Sport is, well, the fact that with servers being down there’s not much point in playing the game.

I think he’s got more problems than the online only connectivity (which does suck) if he’s trying to connect an Xbox branded wheel to his PS4.

I don't know how inclusive Sony tried to be. I know Forza on PC tried to include every controller made or something. You can play it with a DS4 if you want.

Its pretty much not inclusive at all, on both sides of the blue/green divide. Eurogamer has a good article on it a while ago, which I link below:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-11-05-whats-the-deal-with-ps4-and-xbox-one-steering-wheels

The tldr version is that in order to maintain the “security and integrity” of their systems, both Sony and MS mandate that their peripherals operate in a closed system, and this is regulated by the inclusion of security chips in any 3rd party licensed hardware which talk to the consoles to allow access.

This means that even though a Logitech G29 is fundamentally the same as a G920 (bar a few minor differences), they will only work on the system who’s security chip resides on the circuit board. Interestingly the H-pattern shifter and pedals for those wheels are universal across platforms so… whatevs.

This doesn’t count for PC, though. Any attempt to mandate Xbox-only peripherals on the UWP would be looked upon not-quite favourably by the gaming public. And that’s a slight understatement.

Fanatec was smart about it. They made the wheel bases identical between the two systems, but included the security chip in the wheel rim, which can be swapped for PS4 or Xbox specific wheels. It’ll only cost you $1-200 to change your wheel, instead of many hundreds for the pricey full setup.

What does everyone think of the car sounds in GT now?

Personally (having heard heaps and driven a few) i find the R32 GT-R sound to be the most accurate i've heard in any videogame ever. Modelling wise it has also never looked better in a game.

The Audi Quattro Group B rally car sounds freakin awesome especially at speed and with the 'echo' sound of it being away in the distance. Would drive it just to hear the sound. :D

But by far the best sounding car i've heard in the game so far, is that of the Ferrari F40. It sounds better/more realistic in GT Sport than any other game i've seen/driven it in including Forza, which usually has the best sounding cars. I really can't believe i just wrote that, as never expected GT's sounds to get this good, i'll be honest.

I spent a good few laps around Bathurst last night in the F40 just listening to it take off, cruise, idle, hit boost when accelerating and by far the most entertaining was the crackles/backfires etc when you decelerate - just like it does on the YouTube clips :D :D (could be a bit louder though).

I can see that car getting a lot of mileage until/unless something better sounding comes along. :)

Wifey and me also tried out the two player split screen last night and it is the sharpest most detailed 2P S/S i've ever seen in a racing game (well, it's not like many games have that feature though), it was great fun too. And it brings the return of a full screen replay, instead of split screen replay like a number of other GT's annoyingly used. And replays can be saved again - pics of my 390hp R32 GT-R vs. her 588hp Audi Group B coming soon...

Majority of the engine sounds are amazing. Some of the GT3 race cars are spot on perfect (Audi R8, Ferrari 458, McLaren 650S come to mind). The GT3 GT-R is not the right sound - I have a feeling a street car with an aftermarket exhaust was sampled instead. The race car has individual side exhausts and sounds much different.

Overall though I'm very pleased with this aspect of GT Sport, and I think it's the largest leap forward the franchise made in the transition from past titles to GT Sport. Even in replays the sound effects and immersion are amazeballs.

Right on the limits of traction most of the race, great fun. :)
And on the last lap it may look like i was trying to take the 911 out, but i was actually just trying to figure out where he was, as well as try to get the car back under control.

I actually restarted this race maybe ten times or more, just to have it as clean as possible. Too much contact with other cars in previous attempts (because the F40 is a handful...).

As good as the latest 911 GT3 RS is, it’s got nothing on the F40 for sheer spectacle.

Look at that body shape; a pure 1980s facia, followed up by a wedge that tapers outwards as it attempts to contain the engine and massive rear hoops, topped of by the lewdest wing on this side of a Gundam manga.

Fantastic.

In my opinion supercars need to be low, wide and sound different than anything else. That's why i don't consider Gallardos, GT-Rs, 911's, Corvettes etc supercars, as i've said before. The F40 is without a doubt a supercar.

Allowed myself to drop to "D" driver rating as I chased the level 2 "Clean Races" accomplishment (6 clean races in a row) by not qualifying and driving at the back of the pack. Brought my SR up to "S," unsurprisingly. Now working my way back up from D, and I've got to say, it's really refreshing racing against other S drivers. Such a huge difference even compared to B class, which is where I was before.

I know what you're thinking, and you're right: I shouldn't have had to drop from B to D in order to get 6 clean races in a row. Inevitably, I would be at/near the back of the pack and someone in front of me would screw up enough for me to feel like I could pass, only to have them make contact. So then I'm still finishing at the back of the pack with no qualifying time, starting over with the next race. Eventually I got to where I would just hit the brakes if someone did something crazy in front of me so I could preserve my streak.

SkylineObsession

My brother had a go at it but he's unfamiliar with the process and doesn't own a programme capable of doing it (he used a trial version of something, i think). Tried it in game and only the line and circles showed up, plus they got badly pixelated when fully enlarged.

Basically i want my car club logo ingame: http://southernskylines.com/phpBB3/
http://southernskylines.com/phpBB3/styles/southernskylinesred/theme/images/logo.png (can provide the orginal size version, and a solid background version - and the Blade Runner font used to make it if need be)

Rare White Ape

I can have a look at it if you want.

From my experience, it might have to be split up (top text and bottom text) and lose the drop shadow if the file size is large enough. The shadow can be fixed by placing a copy underneath in-game, and changing its colour, but you’ll have a solid shadow, not a gradient.

Probably easiest if you put all of your assets into Dropbox for me to download.

That full lap of the 'Ring in the Circuit Missions is going to be the death of me. I see our tame racing driver has beat the gold target by about 20 seconds, which is funny because I need to make up almost that much time (16 seconds) to get gold.

Speaking of unfair matchups, why do I keep getting put up against people with driver ratings of A? I am in a cycle where I don't qualify well and can't really move up. I had a DR of B at one point before the Clean Races Streak Attempt, I slipped down to D during that time, worked my way back up to a high C afterward but am now back down to D. But hey, my Sportsmanship Rating is still S.

I guess I need to just face the fact that I'm not very good

CudaMan
January 9th, 2018, 09:27 AM
I think SR has a significant impact on who you're matched with. It's not just DR. And I think that's a good thing. Clean drivers get to be matched with clean drivers more often. Maybe spending a little more time practicing a car/track combination can get you a few tenths to start further up the grid.

I did the opposite for a couple of Daily Races yesterday. Three laps of practice/qualy in the RX-7, jumped in a race 8th or so and finished 5th, doing a couple more qualy laps before the next race which by then I'd figured things out better and led start to finish. Then I did something that turned out to be really fun - the Gr4 GT-R at Brands Hatch with 1 practice/qualy lap (all I had time for before it started). It's not a hard car to drive at the limit so there was a ton of great hard racing with the SR S drivers. And yeah a little bumping from time to time too. :) I started 12th and finished 5th, and it was one of the more fun races I've done in a while. Some good dicing and some moments where 3-4 people were all challenging each other into a corner. :)

On the 'Ring Circuit Experience, A) knowing *all* of the track well is worth a lot of time in some sections that don't flow very naturally, and B) TCS only slows cars down unless they've changed that in a recent update.

pl8ster
January 9th, 2018, 12:25 PM
Yeah, some of my problem is not spending enough time with qualifying, admittedly. But I'm finding it difficult to pass people without contact, it's like I'm just a bit faster than they are but they are not driving badly enough for me to be able to pass without being a dick about it. I feel pressure to stay up on them because I have people coming up behind me and I need to hold my position, but in reality, I would probably benefit from hanging back a bit to be able to take a superior line through a corner that would set me up for a better exit speed instead of having to slow down to avoid hitting them, but then I've got someone driving up my tailpipe. It's tough.

As for the 'Ring, I'm down to 7:01, those last four seconds are going to be murder. I totally get the TCS bit, but I don't dare bring it down from 3 because it's already a bit squirmy on corner exits. Guess I need to man up, drop TCS down to at least 2 and work on throttle modulation.

SkylineObsession
January 9th, 2018, 02:12 PM
What car is used for the Nordschliefe Circuit Mission? Saving the Ring for last, as it's my favourite track.

I know every bit of that track, and where the bumps are and where the road curves etc. Terrifying hooning along it in a bloody fast car, but awesome fun at the same time.

Sort of similar in Forza, except there's more frustration involved, due to the lack of traction the cars have and the sheer arseholeyness of the instant slow down run off areas (not that i cheat, but if i make a mistake i want a chance to correct it).

CudaMan
January 9th, 2018, 02:54 PM
If you're not using pedals, throttle modulation can be pretty tough indeed. I'm sure it's possible to beat the Gold time with TCS on. It's just that I noticed a while back that TCS would cut in in places where it shouldn't, ever so slightly, often enough that it'd cost a little bit of time. I used to run it on GT3/GT4 cars to be realistic, but when I found out it was slowing me down on straights I abandoned TC altogether. Even if it's set to 1 it'll slow the car down in this way.

People often tend to think of wanting to be first into the corner, but often it's about being first *to the next corner*. You can pass a lot of people by fooling them into going in too deep. Pressure from behind does add a lot to the difficulty level in managing passing opportunities without losing positions.

Great car. It’s shitloads of fun from the driver’s view. That big ol’ front end blocks most of your vision on some of the Nordschliefe’s more elevated crests, so I t’s very much a ‘spatial awareness’ exercise at speed, and heaps more fun to do than simply trying for lap times.

Cheers, haven't driven that car yet. Pretty sure i've said it before, but the incar view in GT Sport is by far the easiest to drive with out of every racing game i've ever played, right back to PS1/PS2 days. I somehow have better than usual spacial awareness, so i can get close to other cars/the edge of the track etc and still drive really fast.

So yeah, it's great fun doing a race just to drive in that view. I only switch to bonnet/roof cam if i'm struggling to beat something and need to know exactly where the car is instead of guess.

An interesting development brewing, and one that I had noticed for some time now. A small collection of users are able to set fantastic lap times far faster than anyone else in the Top 10 rankings, apparently due to a bug that grants them far more grip than everyone else has in the game. It appears to be tied to accounts as some users who have been called on this have created subaccounts and are unable to match the lap times they originally set.

I'm 2-3 poles away from 65, which I honestly think is a tougher achievement. It mostly helped that I was very good at the Gr. 4 races at Monza, I think I won maybe 6-7 of those during the 24 hour period and had a qualifying time in the Top 10 for a while

So I played most of the single player missions and tests and stuff with a controller before I discovered the Drive Hub that allows me to use my Fanatec CSW v2 and pedals. Game changer. So much fun, and FFB is really good. Only odd thing is the buttons mapping gets reset everytime I turn it off. Fixing it is only a matter of bringing up the G29 page (where all my mappings are in fact saved) and clicking OK. Luckily I don't have to go in a reset each control.

I don't have a PS+ account, so I haven't done any multiplayer yet. Maybe it's time.

I also love the way GT (it was good in GT6 too, so I don't know when it started) figures out what kind of shifting I want to use. Without ever going into a menu, or even pausing a race, I can switch between paddles, seq. stick, H-pattern, H-pattern with clutch by just doing it. Only catch is going from H with clutch to H without clutch, you have to go to the paddles or seq once (which turns off clutch basically). Far as I can tell though, even when using a clutch, it auto-blips.

And updates to the SR etc system in Sport mode.

You can now be dq'd from a race for having too many collisions.
There's now an option to report griefers.
If you don't 'fix' your time penalties within a period of time, more time will be added.

And so on.

I had no idea that there was a 2017 Alpine A110 as well. Looks cool

And the IoM WRX? I saw the video of the car when it lapped the TT circuit back in 2016 and set the four-wheel record. Seeing it in the game makes me ache for the Snaefell course to make an appearance in a modern AAA racing game, even if it's 'only' a 4-wheel racing game.

My only concern with the change in the penalty system now being on a timer, is that if you're in a big pack of cars on a tight track, pulling off to the side and coasting may lead to accidents. Imagine being in the middle of the Nordschleife and getting a penalty. You can't wait for the straight to coast.

You're right. Or Monza, not a whole lot of room to slow down without causing a wreck, aside from the back and front straights. Not to mention the Tokyo Expressway tracks, holy hell.

I did one daily race today, the Gr. 3 cars at the new Blue Moon Speedway road track. Didn't get any penalties myself, but did witness some schlub in a Corvette forcing his way through the pack by brute force, only to see him at a crawl on the side of the track a short time later, waiting out his penalty. Didn't see him again after that  I like the idea of the new penalty setup, but it's going to cause me to either avoid certain tracks altogether for Sport races, or run them without qualifying and use them as an SR farming exercise.

The359
March 4th, 2018, 01:13 AM
The penalty system has really damaged the game for me. If you reach S rank any sort of contact, either from you or from another car, earns both parties a timed penalty, and some of them can be very harsh. My Sportsmanship Rank fell from 99 to 76 in one day.

I play Assetto almost exclusively when I’m prepared to pull out the seat and set it up. Everything else is 2nd-class stuff in my opinion. Even PC2. That game feels terrible, but I’m not used to it and don’t give it a whirl that often and haven’t really explored its FFB settings. Though, I’ve never played iRacing either so I can’t rate it at all.

I’ve made a point to actually plug my wheel into the PS3 (which is set up behind my TV) next time I fold the chair out so that I can sample GT5 and 6, before I get bored and move on to fine champagne racing games like F1 2017 or Race Room or Assetto Corsa.

Not a whole lot in the latest update, a couple of new Dragon's Tail tracks that are supposedly very different from the original; a new Toyota; some new Hawaiian Scapes locations; a change to the DR which now makes A+ the highest level - replacing S; and some tweaks to Sport gameplay which include a PENALTY tag next to your on-screen ID during a race if you have an outstanding penalty.

The only one of these things I can personally attest to is the Scapes portion, the new locations are kind of cool if you're into that sort of thing. Looking forward to trying the new tracks and the PENALTY tag tonight :D

I don't always notice the flags, but it's hard to miss the flashing red PENALTY box next to someone's ID as they drive around the track. Quite helpful if you're catching up to them late in a race - those aren't the cars you want to try and draft. I really wish people would move out of the traffic flow before either letting off the gas or, even worse, slamming on their brakes to get rid of their penalty quickly.

Am I alone feeling, both in Chase and Cockpit views, that the illusion of speed just isn't conveyed well? You do 155mph in a Porsche RSR down the endless straight and the way the trees and course texture is modeled it feels like you're going about 50mph. This is the only track that gives me that impression.

Rare White Ape
May 31st, 2018, 02:29 PM
I didn’t get that feeling much at all. I drove last night in a Toyota TS050 in cockpit view with my wheel and it felt plenty fast for me.

But on the flip side a lot of my sim racing is done on the PC version of Assetto where I’ve adjusted my viewing angle to be a closer match for screen size and distance, which reduces the feeling of speed, and you can’t do that in GT so it has that wide angle, things whizzing past effect more than AC does.

There’s two things I want to have a wee complain about in GT Sport:

Firstly, at Le Mans the sunrise is in front of you as you go under the Dunlop bridge, as per the screenshot I posted. But switching to the sunset version the sun is low on the horizon off to the east, at your ten o’clock position as you drive down Mulsanne straight. This is 100% incorrect. In June the sun sets behind you as you go under the Dunlop bridge.

Secondly, the brake pedal is hella touchy in this game. My foot doesn’t even travel down to the firm part of the rubber stopper in my pedal setup, and at 1/4 travel it feels like the car is about to do a front-flip. With ABS off it is terrible. This is something they need to work on.

Tried Le Mans today as well and I felt that as well, even in the Nose cam view. The track, especially Mulsanne, seems much smoother than it was in previous games.

That being said, it is definitely the 2018 version of the track, even with the new starting line gantry, so Mulsanne may have been smoothed out.

That new Dragon Trail circuit is pretty fun. I hadn't logged on in a while, and just did that circuit experience the other night. It was fun to figure out the racing line there, it definitely presents some challenges and makes you think. Funny enough I was thinking during the circuit experience that the standard for Gold has become too easy over the years. Hear me out now. :) In the GT1 or GT2 days I remember it being really difficult to get Golds in most of the license tests. It was a real accomplishment that you had to push hard for. Nowadays I can do a sloppy sector of a track I've never even seen before and get Gold the first time out. Second or third time out I can beat the gold sector goal by a second or more. That's too easy. I'm not even close to the quickest in GT Sport, there are plenty of fast guys who are taking the time to get that last 1-2% of speed that I'm not these days.

I imagine it's still more of a challenge for those who are using the DualShock instead of a wheel, though.

What wheel RWA? I tried the bump stop behind the brake pedal of my Thrustmaster T-GT and took it right back out. I couldn't press the brake far enough to get best braking performance from the cars I drove. Perhaps a supremely rigid cockpit would help that a little. But for me it was too much.

I've got the Logitech G29. The pedals that come with it date back to the G25, I think, so you might have used them in the past.

While we're on the subject of pedals, Bryan you've got a Playseat Challenge haven't you? You should get some L-brackets and rubber stoppers from a hardware store and do this:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1751/42508273011_1035dfd557_b.jpg

But do it this way since the force of your feet pushing down needs to be contained:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1730/41605922545_6515e231f5_b.jpg

What I did there is to basically hard-mount the pedals to a backing board (the foam around the pedal plate has the perfect amount of grip if you screw down really tightly), which then gives me the ability to attach those L-brackets and give them some lift. It's probably the best mod you can do to a cheap racing chair like these, and I don't even need the velcro strap any more!

If you're keen you could go even higher to tilt the pedals closer to vertical. That's the beauty of DIY.

I've used those pedals for eons on the PC. :) Great pedals for the money. I seem to not enjoy dorsiflexion of my ankles much at all so angling the pedals isn't something I'll be trying. In a race car I sit lower down, so by moving the seat fore or aft I can more easily adjust my "at rest" position for my ankles. Yes I'm wacky. :D

Nope. I have been playing with the dualshock only so far as I need to get an adapter to use my old Logitech wheels and haven’t got around to it yet, partially because the dualshock implementation is so perfect.

But yeah even with the controller the golds are way too easy, most of them first try like you said. At least there are friends leaferboards to shoot for.

I think this is my first post since acquiring a PS4 Pro and GT Sport a couple months ago. Wow I am impressed and loving this version. The sounds, physics (especially grip levels) are much improved and for me they have finally taken back their position over Forza. Forza 7 feels imferior to me now. Just wish the content was better but they are improving (where is my DC2 Integra!!).

What I really like are the camera adjustments you can make in 3rd person view while driving. The past few GT’s have had too stiff of a camera that was locked on to your car. Now you can loosen it up and make it feel like Forza has it which improves the driving feel a lot for me.

And don’t get me started on the scapes mode. Worth the price of the game by itself.

That's too easy. I'm not even close to the quickest in GT Sport, there are plenty of fast guys who are taking the time to get that last 1-2% of speed that I'm not these days.

I imagine it's still more of a challenge for those who are using the DualShock instead of a wheel, though.

You're absolutely right; I used to have a lot more trouble getting golds - and all golds were pretty much out of the question for me - in the earlier games. I'm just not great at GT Sport, but I'm getting all golds with not a ton of trouble.

Nice, Steve Richards's (?) M6. :) You should post that to their Facebook page if they have one.

Don't know how you peeps do that sorta thing, i made some great designs back in Forza 1. Then Forza 2 i made some okay ones. F3 i made only a handful. And it progressively gets worse from there, to the point where i don't think i've touched livery editor in the last few Forza games. :( All i've done in GT is change paint colour and downloaded already made liveries.

Very happy with this one. Tried a silver Raptor instead of the EVO at first but it was so much bigger than the Supra that it looked out of place.

Anyone else doing the GTI daily race at LeMans and finding the track penalties far more unforgiving than usual? I thought the rule was at least 2 tires on the track side of the curbing...but there are additional restrictions that I'm trying to sort through. One specific thing I remember is not to glance the inside red curb on the very last turn. I guess that's why it's red...didn't know there were different classes of curbs. I think you know by now I'm not terribly good at this

Rare White Ape

I haven’t done the daily race, but I do know that you can be very quick through there if you’re aggressive with the left curb and leave yourself enough space with that final curb.

Same goes for Monza. I’m finding more time in the chicanes there but I stick to single player and I’m scared that my advances won’t be at all legal in multiplayer

pl8ster

You can't be aggressive through the last la Sarthe corner in a daily race, I can tell you that. The kicker is that for qualifying, they start you out before the last two sets of corners and if you get a penalty on the last corner, they drop it on you right before you cross the start/finish line to begin your actual lap...

I too noticed the penalties at Le Mans, even in a race with a lot of fast guys 90% of the drivers ended up with a penalty at some point.

I think GT may be adopting the rule that Le Mans had a few years ago about the white line being the limit of the track, not the curbs. Meaning four wheels inside (or outside) the white line counting as a penalty. It was particularly noticable at the exit of the Dunlop chicane (running wide was a penalty) as well as the Mulsanne chicanes.

For those that are interested, the FIA Championships are starting for real on Wednesday. A couple seasons for the summer, then regional championships after August with a World Final later in the year. But it seems Nissan has added an incentive: If you choose Nissan for the Manufacturers Championship, they will also be rewarding the highest scoring Nissan drivers with additional prizes and trips to Japan. I'm curious if any other car companies are planning to do the same

I believe you are correct about the white line, that makes sense based on the penalties I was receiving. Didn't realize that was a real thing.

The white line thing only lasted a year or two, they did it under the claim of trying to avoid the sharp stones being knocked onto the track, but they abandoned it pretty quickly.

Man, the DR points system is wack. Because I like to keep track of things, I check out my progress on the Kudos Prime site (http://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?profile=search). Did the Gr. 3 race at Tsukuba today, didn't have a chance to qualify, started 13th out of 16th, had a great race against what apparently were some substandard opponents and finished 3rd. Since it was the only Sport Mode race I did today, it was easy to see the difference it made in my DR points vs. yesterday. So what was my reward for moving up 10 spots and finishing in the top 3? Just under 400 points. Daaaang.

Well, firstly, I have to apologise because I completely forgot to do it for you yesterday. I got home from work and people in my house were all like, “stuff!” and all thought of doing it evaporated away and I am a terrible friend. So I’ll do it today :P

Secondly, if you’re using a basic online image to svg converter it’s not gunna work. You’ll need a vector graphics program like Adobe Illustrator (or a free one that you don’t have to pirate) and a bit of time to learn to do vectors. They’re not very user freindly, unfortunately.

Thirdly, I googled “corvette museum logo svg” and came up with a result on Wikipedia, which usually hosts vectors under fair use so is a good source. Sadly, the file itself (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:National_Corvette_Museum_logo.svg#mw-jump-to-license) is 33kb, which won’t help as you need a max of 15kb, but I’m posting this so you get some idea of how vectors work. This is a professionally made file and is probably the most efficient way to create this image, so a converted-from-raster of the same might look a bit shit, but I won’t know this until I give it a go later today.

No worries mate.

I have been working on this image for the better part of 7 months now. (Honestly for about a week and it has sat because I hadn't touched the game since).

So a few days wait won't hurt anything. I did mess with the "svg" file on Wikipedia, but it was downloaded as a png. Which didn't make any sense. I futz around with various things for about an hour and decided someone here could probably do it lickity split.

I will say this, I'm really excited to share this design. I think you guys will love it.

Rare White Ape

I've gotten to this stage so far, with a huge level of jank. It's 15.5kb, and I don't think you will want that much craggyness for a logo like this. Look at the far right column at the slider labelled 'Paths'. It's the basic level quality slider, and it's waayyyy down the left side. I can get a reasonable result at 25kb, but that's no help at all...

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1828/42047883205_03c2fd105c_o.jpg

I'm thinking of splitting it into two halves and adding guide marks so that you can line the two halves up easily. Don't worry, I'll write some instructions so that you can deal with what I've got in mind. If the design you're doing is as good as you say it is (no pressure, heh heh!) then the extra effort is worth it. I'll report back sometime tomorrow!

It drops on 20-June. I'm in bed with a fever, miss day one.
Login on 21-June, Round one is over. The fuck?
Sign with a team to run in the manufacturer series.
Go to race.
No race till 23-June, only open for a 3 hour window. The fuck?
I'm out of town on 23-June. Now 0-2 in participation for this series.
Done for the year now? Fun.

No idea. Clicked through some of the links in the game that talks about the Championships but they're not very informative. Despite the snark my question was sincere. At one point it says it only takes the best 2 of 4 races for a round, but then it also says you can only run one race per round. Just lots of conflicting stuff.

I don't know why the window is so tight. Maybe to make it feel like a 'real' event? iRacing has NASCAR sanctioned events that are asynchronous and it seems to work fine.

The359
June 22nd, 2018, 09:54 AM
June is best 2 out of 4 events. So you can race the final two races. When it says one race per round, that means you have to pick one of the race times that day and that's your only shot.

Then there is Season 2 in July and Season 3 in August, but the schedules haven't been posted yet. I presume they will last through most of the month, every Wednesday and Saturday.

Originally the test seasons were every day except Tuesday and each season lasted a week, but they changed that about a month back.

That being said, the manufacturer you chose for the manufacturer championship, you're stuck with for Season 2 and 3 as well.

Rare White Ape

Alright Tyler!

I have created two files for you. Save them and then upload to the GT decal uploader.

Top: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fi0301fk56v14lv/NCM%20TOP.svg?dl=0
Bottom: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jdcvdmm9naomirz/NCM%20BOTTOM.svg?dl=0

There are crosses at the corners. They are there to help you line them up, and with a bit of fiddling you can scale and rotate each half and get them to match up.

Simply place your first one,
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1840/42057878695_468f183bdd_c.jpg

Then your second one,
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1836/42057878965_f0874d4f5b_c.jpg

And line them up like so.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1771/42057879295_8409ceda58_c.jpg

There's a bit of overlap along the middle, but you might want to place a strip of black in there in case you get some colour peeking through. Doing it this way has necessitated the use of a transparent logo, so the next step involves masking the whole thing with a circle,
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1819/42057879515_42b16689bf_c.jpg

Then moving that layer down behind the rest of the layers.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1818/42057879985_8a4ff25dc3_c.jpg

Now, the biggest snag you might have with this is masking over the guide marks. If you are using a non-standard base colour like this racing yellow Corvette, you will have to match the layer colour to the base colour. This is fairly easy to do if you know the HSV colour values for the paint job, but if you're using a special colour in fluoro or chrome etc, then forget about it. If you need to I can make these again without the guide marks, but you'll have to line them up yourself.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1776/28090774527_23e6bcd6b6_c.jpg

But when it's done you'll get something that looks like this, with layers arranged as they are here.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1831/28090774237_6886ba1f52_c.jpg

Now I can't wait to see what you've planned to do with it

Fantastic work. Your crosshairs and image upload were perfect. I was able to knock out the first bit of the decal in 5 minutes or so, but do to the location, part of it was intruding into another 'body' area. So I had to get creative as to how to carry the rest of the design while still making it look like one. This is something which I had to do for the entire design. The Hood's 'Mobile 1" design took me almost 5 hours alone due to 3 different panels and a TON of curves which kept making the edges looking completely shitty.

I really wanted to put more decals (which I had already downloaded) on the side-skirts, etc but the Gr. 4 design doesn't really take well to that at all. If I get a wild hair, I will do another (different numbering too) on the Gr. 3 Car.

I really can't thank you enough RWA for the effort you put into the NCM logo. I hope you all enjoy it.

Honestly the racing was very good, but maybe it's because I qualified so high in everything I ran last night. It was right up there with iRaciing in that regard. I was door to door through 90 degree turns with people and everyone gave good racing space. My mistakes were my own, save for one guy that hip checked me in the FIA race but it was a racing incident. I'm a C/S driver.

It also helps that the game goes out of its way to avoid collisions. There was one point that I missed a braking point and would've lightly tapped the bumper of the guy ahead of me; instead I went 'invisible' until they pulled away. It saves a lot of heartache but does make it definitively not a simulator.
