So this community has been around for roughly 18 years in some way shape or form.

It got me thinking. This place is kinda like the bar on cheers. Some of us duck away for a little while, but we seem to always come back home. we talk about our successes, failures, happy times, and sad times.

This doesn't feel like some Facebook group to me. Ya'll are family.

Just some random thoughts I had earlier.

Looking back at myself..., I think I'm a very simple minded impressionable dude over the years...

Started out as just Billy and only wish to race IROC and EZGT.

After season after season of chasing the likes of Egag and Karma and unable to catch them I began to idolize them... and changed my name to Billi in honor of Karma... because he created his online name using 3 letters of his 1st name and 2 letters of his last name...

After exhausting my passion for online racing(after realizing although I'm fast, but I'm never going to catch the likes of Karma), I began to "fall in love", at first it was Doc Love... and then the ultimate Doc Love... Jesus Christ himself! That's when I changed my name again to something the rhymes with Christianity! ;)

Anyway, I've learned a lot of things from this online family, particularly the different point of views..., that's why I'm still around.

I am kinda sadden by the ones who are no longer with us... either thru drifting away or fights or thru death. :(

I guess this is just like any real family.

Except that we are not producing any kids here! Will 21kids be enough for the family to carry on? :p

I remember in '06 or '07 before a lot of us became connected via other means such as Facebook, when the first forum I joined, granturismox.net, it's server died and I was like… lost.

On the first day I checked it every half-hour* hoping it might be back soon. Then those intervals became slightly longer as the days passed by. Eventually it was once a day, then a few times a week, then if I remembered that the place even existed. I was so sad at having lost my GT family. Like a lil lost puppy with sad eyes and a quivering bottom lip.

Then one day! I forget how and I forget who, but I saw that people migrated to the Green Tavern and had been there for a number of months. I was both relieved and gobsmacked. I found youse again :) But you were all probably thinking why it was so hard to get rid of me, weren't ya?!?!

That was the first big exodus that I recall, a lot of us made it to TGT, but a lot more didn't, and I don't think we've been as strong as we were back in those days. But for the survivors who've made it all this way, it really shows how well and how tightly knit your friendships have been since the beginning, and I really respect that.

Cheers!

April 2000 (or thereabouts).

I think it was a couple months later, that I met Phil (SuperSport) and John (roofer). Then we went to Wisconsin for the first meet up.

Then it was a trip to CT, then another to PA, the the three of us went to England in Jan 2001, met Russ and Naomi, and a bunch of other kick ass people.

Trev came to the US in July 2001, I hosted a "GTFP" at that time as well.

At one point, I think Russ and I were competing for most members met. If memory serves (I quit keeping track a decade ago), I was at 110+, through various meet ups (several New England, one Florida (Glenn, we're WAY overdue, and I'm only 2 hours away...) AZ, WI, PA, Several trips to CO... it's fucking crazy now that I'm thinking about it.

16 years for me, June (?) 2000. A lot of us, especially me, would prefer to forget about the Mustang-man years though. *groan* :smh:

But yeah, it is pretty cool that we've mostly all hung around for this amount of time, a lot of forums have been and gone in the years but we obviously have something that they didn't...

Well, I joined just after my son was born in 1999, and he's a year away from heading to college...

I was also Class Of '99 at this nuthouse. Roofer was too, as I recall, and I think perhaps Taimar as well. How do I remember this stuff but none of the important things in life?

Back then when the internet was fresh and new, somehow the Join Date at at forum seemed really important - and no thanks to all the Dec '98 cool kids who kept bullying us newbies at Kenji's place.

Whatever happened to Spinwheelz? And I'm sure he had a buddy as well, I just can't remember his name! Didn;t we have a lady who was considering buying an NSX as well? Moved to Alaska I think. Hazy memory of Ellandria or something?

Indeed. He is everything, and he is nothing. The Alpha, and the Omega. :finger:

Dez is still around, elsewhere. I've not spoken to him proper in quite a while. He came to Chicago in 2011 and we caught up. Hi buddy was Alan ("oz", crazy Brit, married to an equally crazy German (Micky).

I was just thinking about that the other day. :)

I thought the chick that wanted to buy the NSX was Lime. She attended a couple of the NEGTP parties.

No.

When I said "Kenji's place" I meant the original forum he hosted. Sorry if that sounded like I meant something else. That wasn't my intention.

I started using email and USENET on the Internet in 1986. The web had not been invented yet at that time. There were a lot of people using it before me.
