Continental, you mean. The SuperCar 3s were not a winter tire. I did drive them year round once but never took the M6 out in salt or snow. They were surprisingly good under 45F though. Tried that with BFG's once and the rubber was so hard.

It helps to have a job that is 100% work from home.

Another right rear wheel swap and repair, this time because it bent so much that an air-leaking creak was formed. There were two other Corvettes parked at the wheel repair shop when I got there.

I priced out a full replacement set, and it's still probably $3000 for the cheapest good option, vs just getting one wheel replaced and repaired for ~$200. At some point I may pull the trigger, but I already have some catching up to do financially.

Another trip to Mid-Ohio for an IMSA weekend, this time with a friend that had never ridden in the car. He was pretty entertained and had tons of questions about it and cars/racing in general. When we got out on the track for parade laps he was giggling at the acceleration and cornering at multiple points.

Last month, a friend took pictures with my car while she was in a black dress. I found out later from her girlfriend that this was a big deal because this was the first time she really felt attractive and sexy, so it meant a lot to her.

I got an interesting call from that same friend this morning: she wanted to take more pictures with my car, this time pouring water on herself out of a beer can, so she could make a beer poster (a popular TikTok trend) for her girlfriend. We took a lot of candidates, got the right one, and I think got a great result. Her girlfriend's reaction was priceless. She hasn't posted any of them publicly yet, so I won't post one here.

She also wanted to take a video on her truck singing along to her new favorite song, which, upon listening to it, we realized it says "red Corvette" in the second verse, so we made a video with that as well.

I've heard mostly good things about modern coatings (within the last 2 years - older stuff tended to be more finicky especially with water spots from what I hear). What I've always wondered is, with their toughness and durability, how you remove them years from now when they're contaminated and no longer sealing as they did when they were fresh? A traditional wax or sealant is pretty easy to get off chemically, these chemical resistant coatings may not be. Abrade them off with machine polishing I guess? Someday I'll try it out. Probably on my next daily as it'll have to sit outside now that I anticipate having 3 cars for the foreseeable future.

Corvette moments away from the track this weekend and today
- In Indianapolis, an SRT Neon with a bit of bodywork damage behind the front wheel well paced me on the highway after the race Saturday night, honking and accelerating to try and get me to race. Sorry, gentlemen, not my thing.
- Back in Dayton, about to leave Best Buy, I see a father and son walking up to the car, and the dad points the son to stand by it so they can take a picture. The son gets close and I wave, and they realize I'm still in the car and apologize. I said no problem, and let the son sit in the car. The dad seemed more excited than the son at that point. The son just thought it looked like a Ferrari from a game he liked to watch videos of, the dad said his dad had a couple Vettes when he was young.
- Driving home, I was slowly passed by a silver Porsche 718 Spyder with the top down and a grey haired couple cruising along at 80 mph (and maybe 80 years old). I gave them a thumbs up as they went by, and the passenger waved. A few miles down the road, I caught up to them as we were all slowed by traffic, so I got next to them going 65, dropped to third gear, and blasted away at full throttle. I could see them in my rearview mirror, both reaching over their windshield to wave excitedly.

A red Vette definitely makes you a 'target'.

Still, even without such eye catching target, I have noticed that most people tend to not like others passing them. They could go very slowly on the fwy ahead, but if you pass them, they'll speed up and try to make it hard for you to complete your pass. People are naturally very competitive I guess. I particularly hate the ones who drive slowly in the fast lane and then speed up as you try to pass them on the right. The weirdest ones are the ones who drives slowly on a single lane road... and then once a truck lane appears, he'd veer to the right to let people behind pass, but then he'd speed up in the slow lane as well. So only few people could pass him... and then once the truck lane merges back to a single lane, he'd slow back down again. For such driver, I'd imagine it's due to herd mentality? He was just trying to go with the flow of the traffic in the fast lane?!?!? :lol: So I suppose it all just might be herd mentality? If the red Vette is going faster than me, I should speed up too! :p People need to learn to be their own driver and stick with whatever speed they're comfortable with and not be influenced by the red Vette!

I am almost entirely convinced that this is caused by people getting distracted or zoning out behind the wheel. When you pass they realise that they are driving a bit below the speed limit and pay attention again. Nothing malicious, nothing competitive. Just human nature. It happens as much on a motorcycle as it does when driving my Dad's beige Camry station wagon.

As soon as you get by them they'll zone out again and drop 5 below again.

In Belgium, a new M5 CS zoomed up behind me just as we were entering a single lane roadworks section. Exiting the roadworks, I booted it past the slow car in front then pulled over to let him go, which he did in emphatic style.

Next time I saw him he was taking an exit from the motorway, surrounded by motorcyclists who all seemed to have customised their bikes with flashing blue lights...


I'm always happy to let other ppl go quicker anyway, but doubly beneficial if they flush out the police.

I have to admit, when I was younger, even in a 70hp Civic, I performed these public services by flushing out cops quite a bit! :p of course I’d tone down for a while because of can’t afford to keep on paying those tickets! As I get older and wiser, I tend to be the 2nd fastest on the road for this same reason… ;)

sure glad I did not have the S2000 when I was younger! Anyway, nowadays, especially when I tow the RV camper, I go 55mph and stick to the right for safety reasons. - Driving home, I was slowly passed by a silver Porsche 718 Spyder with the top down and a grey haired couple cruising along at 80 mph (and maybe 80 years old). I gave them a thumbs up as they went by, and the passenger waved. A few miles down the road, I caught up to them as we were all slowed by traffic, so I got next to them going 65, dropped to third gear, and blasted away at full throttle. I could see them in my rearview mirror, both reaching over their windshield to wave excitedly.

I was attending a watch party for the Austin Grand Prix at a home theater store when I saw the car from this encounter in the same parking lot, and I identified a silver haired couple inside. I asked the driver if they had recently been buzzed by a red Corvette, to mild confusion, but then confirmed it was them. We complimented each others cars (the Spyder was even more beautiful up close, with the *checks Porsche interior colors* Terracotta leather covering everything and gold script badging) and I said they were just cruising around living the dream.

And the rears were starting to slide a little more than usual, no idea why the rears would be wearing out faster...

Anywho, a fresh set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS are on the car. They were the only other all-season option, reviewed well, and were significantly less expensive than the Michelin.

I don't have traction control and I don't spin my rear wheels much with my S2k either, but my wider rear tires still tend to wear out much faster when driven regularly... okay, occasional pedal to the metal. :p

Seems quite happy in sub freezing temps, and I stay home when there's anything worse than a light rain so I can't comment on it's snow traction.

Good stuff, I tended to feel that my FD was getting towards the limits of the basic FR layout, traction-wise, at ~330hp. Of course this is bigger, a little heavier, and has huge rear tyres and sophisticated traction control, so I can imagine that it can be driveable on cold tarmac.

I don't know about your tire situation in the FD in cold temps, but when I had snow tires on my s2k I felt almost invincible. Similar feelings on the 996 I had as well, but the style of snows I had were not as capable as the s2k.

Today I had an interesting interaction. A local MLS player was at Hooters for lunch, and I was told the C8 Corvette in the lot was his. Just before leaving, I approached him and complimented him on it, then pointed out mine. It turns out that he had seen it, and not just today. He had been there before, and noticed my car before, and wondered whose it was. He knew I hosted events there, presumably was told about my by a waitress, and asked if he could see the car. We walked out, he gushed over the wide rear quarters, noted the manual transmission, and said he liked my car more than his (aside from the convertible vs removable top).

We started to walk back inside, and he turned, went back, and took pictures.

Non-picture updates: there are some minor scratches and scuffs on the back of the car from a parking lot incident in the middle of March that are projected to be fixed between the end of June and middle of July. If it was fully out of pocket I would just skip it, but it will be covered by my insurance and seems like the smart thing to do considering I'm planning on keeping the car for the long run.

I was sent a coupon for $60 off the 2023 navigation update, and decided to pull the trigger on it. It's not really necessary with the Android Auto integration, but because of the way the updates are done (have to be custom made for your VIN, and at some point they'll just stop making them and you're stuck wherever you are), I wanted to at least get the last 6 years of construction and new businesses. I wouldn't be surprised if I still end up only using it as a backup, though, despite generally preferring HUD navigation to having it only on the center console screen.

All bias aside the Altimas have been among the better rentals I've had this year for sure. At the Raleigh-Durham Hertz lot earlier this month they said to pick any sedan from the middle row. Tons of Malibus and a few Altimas. All the Altimas were being taken, no one was touching the Malibus. I saw an Altima returning from the wash and jumped on that one.

But they are definitely not C7 Corvettes. :lol: How long must you endure the 40mpg pain? :p

I just noticed a family leaving the restaurant I'm at and saw them stop to take pictures of their small son with Prince. I ran out and asked if he wanted to sit in it. I don't think he understood until I opened the door, but then he climbed in.

After getting seated, he motioned for the door, hoping we would close it. I reached in, put the car in accessory mode, and rolled down the windows before closing the door, thinking he just wanted his picture taken in it.

I was wrong. He had bigger ambitions.

He began looking for buttons to press, including pulling the park brake release, trying to start the car. Thankfully the electronic hand brake in the C7 doesn't disengage without the brake pedal depressed.

After his parents got pictures and a video, I opened the door again and they told him it was time to go. He refused. They asked if he was going to go home with me. He thought about it...and never really said no. Despite this, they helped him out.

I hopped in, started the car and blipped the throttle a few times, then shut it off and got out. Before going back inside, I told him that in 20 or 30 years he could have one himself. I hope that when he does, he's able to share it the same way.
