It’s easiest to kick all the people off the board if you do it a little bit at a time.

Does that also immeasurably improve the value of the end result?

Just like how enough grains of sand, when subject to a gust of wind, can amount to a significant meteorological phenomenon?

Ever since this has been announced, I've wondered if they're going to include the accident at the Ring that killed a spectator or not. I've gone back and forth on how do you not include it, but also how do you include it? That trailer shows what looks like the beginning of the accident, so it seems like it's going to happen.

Every hero's journey needs the setback in the the second act so they can come back from it in the third act. I just don't know how they can do it But you can't fairly tell his story without it. And what is the comeback?

I'm so curious how they're going to do it that I'm actually nervous. I will probably see it opening weekend.

Saw it tonight. Much better than the previews. Go see it.

Big lump in my throat still, none related to the dramatized storyline. Owe that one to you guys. Bastards. 🥲

We have been a fortunate family through the years.

Never watched LotR, but the GT movie does have a guy from Never Have I Ever, which was a cool surprise. Also, David Harbour's Wikipedia shot looks a lot like pl8ster. Somehow, even moreso than Phil Hartman. 😁

Kaz's actor is very handsome. Hey, if you're the executive producer...

minor spoiler...
if you swap the timing of real world events you can make it something that requires a comeback

Also you need "miracle gear" (as seen in F&F)

My review of the movie:

You know when you see a movie about a culture you know and care about, and it gets little things right that tell you the people making the movie are also part of the culture? This is the opposite of that.

I'm honestly a little disappointed I didn't get to be involved in any small way, be it stunt driving or as an extra or whatever. Also I don't know when I'll go see it, mainly because I have tons keeping me busy and movies seem like a low priority right now. But I do think it's insanely cool this story is getting told on the big screen. People used to tell me I should write a book. This film is reaching a very wide audience!

Speaking of songs, did you guys notice how in one scene they managed to sneak in a few notes from Moon Over The Castle?

My son wants to see it, and he wants to see it with me. At his age - in high school - that's quite the compliment.

I confess I've never known CudaMan's story. Tom Servo told me a little bit about it over dinner in LA a few years back, but otherwise it's one part of GTXF lore I've missed along the way, just like that running joke about doing things only a little bit at a time that everyone else seems to find great humor in.

Guess I'll have to see the movie. :)

Was it all about spook?

spook was the one deleting a bunch of his posts and causing trouble with the database (I think).

Docksyde claimed the cheapest way to buy gas was to buy only a little at a time.

The energetic son of an airforce officer was Shane09.

And no mention of bleedig ears and yatzy yet.

George
September 14th, 2023, 09:20 AM
Ah, okay. Thanks F500. I remember spook and his 10,000 posts and the "new kid" Shane09 way back then, but not the others. I was mostly offline for three years in the early 2000s while working crazy hours in the restaurant business and Kenji shut down the original forum, or kicked everyone out, or something like that. I finally caught up with everyone at The Green Tavern, I think, after moving several states away from where I used to live, starting a new career, and having time to surf the web at work again.

I remember the leather interior Xterra saga with Shane09.

A lot of my early memories with this community are from the mIRC chat. I think I'm still facebook connected to jp.

Does anyone remember the inflatable sheep everyone signed? I mentioned it to drew at dinner a few years ago and he had no idea wtf I was talking about.

Lori and I watched this last night. It was exactly how I expected; contrived. I could have skipped it. Lori enjoyed it. I liked the performances of three main actors that played Jann, Jack and Danny, but everyone else was wooden, except for maybe Jann's dad. I don't get the controversy behind using his 'Ring crash as a narrative element. If it is a docu-drama, it should be included. Ultimately, I don't feel like I wasted my time on watching it, but it gets a, "Meh." from me.

Rare White Ape
December 8th, 2023, 06:26 AM
I've had it on my hard drive for a month and still haven't watched it.

For the Nurb scene, I'm reminded of the film Rush, where the crash that nearly killed Niki Lauda in 1976 was filmed at the Nurburgring at the very same location where the real crash happened.

The controversy is probably only there because of recency.

Tom Servo
December 8th, 2023, 07:01 AM
I haven't kept up with the discourse, but I thought the only controversy was that it was shifted around in the narrative, in that it was presented as roadblock to his eventual GT Academy crown rather than something that happened long after he'd already gotten it?

Kchrpm

In my mind the problem was that they put so little focus on the spectators that died. But I have lots of problems with little things that they could have done differently.

Checked this video about what's right and wrong from WatchMojo (not a great channel but whatever). What's COOL is CudaMan is in a few parts of it!

I still haven’t seen it…just seems way over the top…not in a great way :)

I’d rather watch a 2hr documentary on this particular subject rather than a mostly made up dramatized movie.
