I had a dream that I bought a brand new 370Z convertible. It was one of those dreams that seems extremely real.

I was very relieved when I woke up and realized that I did not actually waste all that money on a stupid 370Z convertible.

To dream of buying and/or driving a brand new car means that your happiness is on the rise. You are getting better at dealing with new things that life throws at you.-----------------
To see or dream that you are in a convertible, refers to your glamorous attitude. You are showing off your power and influence.

You're getting better at dealing with what life throws at you, and doing it with power, influence and glamour. Congratulations

We're digging in a spot that was half-assedly partially excavated in 1988, when a clovis point (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clovis_point) was found. Both landscape archaeology and geoarchaeology indicate that there's a really solid chance that we've got good preservation and likelihood of occupation dating well into the the pre-clovis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clovis_culture#Evidence_of_human_habitation_before _Clovis) era, which is what we're really shooting for. Thus far we've moved a bunch of dirt opening up units (1x1 meter squares) to 50 cmbgs (centimeters below ground surface) which is where our version of the good shit (early archaic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_archaeological_periods_(North_America))) starts. We also opened up part of the old excavation to 210 cmbgs to figure out the soil profiles - it turns into a 40 thousand year old gravel bar at about 190cmbgs, so its pretty much useless for our purposes - except for the fact that its nice and cool at the bottom of the hole, which is nice on 100 degree 70% humidity days.

In evenings, we've been doing a bunch of stuff including canoeing (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sxBpCkWa92HNGsMb8MgAt6kzMfcDYHs-Aw/view?usp=sharing), hiking (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TvS99F2Sgxc5HrUvDqMeikFzmqxX-EgNcQ/view?usp=sharing), and drinking (https://drive.google.com/file/d/18-7BYu2OFWMVX-fBm4a4J3tam-3ZleJq0Q/view?usp=sharing)

How to make fresh iced coffee (requires some planning ahead):

1. Possess a metal teapot, preferably with a copper bottom.
2. Get a pot large enough to fit the teapot inside it and put about an inch of water into this pot and put it in the freezer the night before making the iced coffee.
3. Brew coffee the next day.

We just put leftover coffee into an ice tray to freeze for the next day. :D Regular plastic trays don't work as good, so we've gotten some silicone ones. Actually I have been using cupcake cups (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047T6UQI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1), lately. Since they are individual and can be reused when empty. This thing has been pissing me off for two weeks.

http://www.sacsaabs.org/sacsaabs.org/delete/stupidled.jpg

It's an LED, obviously. I found it inside a balloon that someone had abandoned in the park. It's bad enough people abandon balloons in the park - something they've been doing for decades - but now in addition to rubber we're also abandoning circuits, batteries, and all the chemicals they contain.

This LED was built into the balloon. There was no way to remove it without tearing the balloon to shreds. Someone bought this balloon, gave it to their pretty pink princess for her birthday, and then abandoned it in the park. We make a freaking LED light whose only purpose was to entertain a kid for an hour or two, and then be thrown away. This LED has been sitting on my counter, glowing, for two weeks now. What an annoying, deplorable, offensive waste.

thesameguy

Probably a lot, but the other side of the coin is things like arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium and beryllium amongst others. We only somewhat have the technology to recover precious metals from individual samples, getting it out of the earth amidst all the other stuff seems like an incredible challenge. Even if we can, what do we then do with all the toxics, not to mention the invariable pile of silicon which has no further purpose (that I'm aware of!). I begrudgingly accept wrapping paper and such, but I draw the line as disposable electronics. If it's life-saving, ok, but short of keeping a living thing from the brink I'm just not okay with it.

It's easy to be dismissive of college kids and the things they rail against in their abundance of free time because you can quip "The real world is going to bite you in the ass with that attitude", but it's so rare to have it pan out exactly that way in a single incident that I can point to.

tl:dr; intern wants to wear flat shoes, is told no, organizes with other interns to force policy change, all interns fired, turns out the one employee with flat shoes is a disabled veteran with one leg.

Oh, and this... :smh:

Dangerous super bacteria found in Rio waters before Summer Olympics
Two new academic studies shared with Reuters news show that scientists have found drug-resistant "super bacteria" off Rio de Janeiro beaches - some of which will be hosting Olympic events in August. These deadly microbes, normally only found in hospital settings, have been turning up in the waters near some of the city's most popular tourist destinations. Though city officials are blaming illegal dumping for the contamination, it more likely has something to do with the fact that Rio pumps literal tons of raw sewage into the ocean with only minimal treatment for safety.

Though Brazil promised to clean the city's waterways as part of its initial Olympic bid in 2009, that goal has yet to materialize. If anything, the city's waste-filled waters have only become worse in the intervening years. Athletes have long complained of a sewage stench in the areas where they're meant to compete, and the amount of debris floating along the shore could pose a potential hazard to swimmers.

Simon Pegg Responds to George Takei’s Criticism of Gay Sulu in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ (http://geeknation.com/simon-pegg-responds-to-george-takeis-criticism-of-gay-sulu-in-star-trek-beyond/)

Justin Lin, Doug Jung and I loved the idea of it being someone we already knew because the audience have a pre-existing opinion of that character as a human being, unaffected by any prejudice. Their sexual orientation is just one of many personal aspects, not the defining characteristic. Also, the audience would infer that there has been an LGBT presence in the Trek Universe from the beginning (at least in the Kelvin timeline), that a gay hero isn’t something new or strange. It’s also important to note that at no point do we suggest that our Sulu was ever closeted, why would he need to be? It’s just hasn’t come up before. He makes a good point. (and there's more to it in the link)

I didn't realize Star Trek had alternate universes like comics.

How long can you guys work at a job before you start feeling burnt out on it? That point where going in and dealing with anything however minor just makes you want to stand up and walk out.

I've been with this company nearly 3 years, current job for 2.5 of that and I am just over it. I can do the job without thinking and usually just end up on autopilot while doing it. There's no challenge, the constant issues due to a process that saved our customer 5 million a year and just created more work due to a coding fuck up in the system just creates busy work seemingly at random. Its to be fixed but no timeline, just like literally everything that needs fixed at the place.

Learning to quit giving a fuck and not stressing over bullshit has helped keep me sane this time around.

Right now I'm at 20 months, but I'm scheduled to be promoted in a few weeks so that will extend my interest a few more years. Pursuing the law degree will help too, since I'll have a structured challenge to focus on and I can just think of work as wage slaving. ;)

Baby formula is made from cow's milk, which isn't as good for them as human milk but it's still better than fucking vegan anything. Babies need the nutrients that are in milk and you can't substitute vegan crap and get the same result. Their digestive systems are not ready for it yet.

I can't find any reports that say what year it was, but you totally know it was a C4. C5s and C6s are too expensive for someone to afford who's life is that much of a hot mess, and C3s are too old, slow, and unreliable for the common person to lust after.

C4s occupy kind of a white trash sweet spot, as well as being an object for middle aged men to frantically grasp onto as they yearn for a not too distant past that's just now fading into sepia tone, when they hadn't lost quite so much of their vitality.

On the radio show where I heard this story, one of the people commented that she was put "in the back" of a Corvette when she was a kid, I don't think she realized that the space is the same on the new cars as it was on the old.

I'm guessing she was actually driven around in a Chevette.

No, I mean she described it as she was put in the hatch area, but the article says the kids were in the "trunk". She didn't realize that the "trunk" on the new cars is still just the hatch area (unless you have a convertible or the C5 FRC/Z06 with the short rear glass), so it's just the same thing that she did.

Ah, shipping....
The last time work sent one of our laptops, UPS didn't even fucking knock, much less get a signature.

I tripped over it walking out of the door. Fast forward to the next day, and they did make me sign, for a $15 order of tea from Amazon.

I wonder if Amazon shipping deals make it so that, under a certain size/weight, it doesn't change their price at all. If that's the case, just throw it in whatever box you have handy and get it out the door?

There's a conference room at work that I have a weekly meeting scheduled in. I incessantly get requests from people to use the room at the time I have it scheduled for, which really irritates me because the exact reason I have it scheduled for that time is so that I can have a meeting in it. If I didn't need that room, I wouldn't have scheduled it.

The system only allows you to schedule meetings about a year in advance. Being my cunningly passive aggressive self, I've made it my life's mission to continue to schedule that room at that time each week for as far into the future as is possible in the system. Periodically, I go in and continue to schedule that room at that time as far out as the system will let me.

If I can help it, no one will ever get to use that room at that time unless they schedule a meeting about a year ahead of time. I intend to maintain an iron grip on that room at that time. For an hour and a half each week, that room is mine.

I blame the people that reserve meeting rooms and then don't use them for the idea others have that the reservations are not true expressions of need.

At my job on a helpdesk, we've been given 10 sick days to use per year...that's for the whole company, same sick days available.

BUT, on the helpdesk, if we take 3 sick days within 3 months, we get reprimanded, get a "write up" and if we do that twice, we can get fired for it.

Doesn't that seem a bit, illegal?

Bringing this topic back up, because, beyond my control I've been out of the office on medical issues for the past 3 days and have been warned about "Disciplinary action" even though I've only taken 6 sick days so far this year, because, again, it still doesn't fall into the separate "attendance policy" which still makes no sense.

I've basically been advised to fill out a short term disability/FMLA form to avoid any further "disciplinary action" against me. This whole thing stinks IMO and if I do get fired, I feel like I should consult an attorney.

Ah... besides being scratchy, printed paper contains BPA. So recycling it to use in wiping your nether regions with isn't a good idea.

We could just use the 3 seashells. :D

or...

1. Wipe With Sugar
A byproduct of the sugar-making process that would otherwise be disposed, bagasse can be used to make toilet paper, paper towels, plates, and napkins (plus things like burger boxes and printer paper). Sugar cane is the world's number one crop, and it is one of the most readily available non-tree fibers. Best of all, bagasse is completely biodegradable. Unfortunately, bagasse paper products are still relatively hard to find. Here's one toilet paper option.

You may or may not be surprised to know that people in India see Americans as backwards, uncouth, and unsanitary. Based upon our politics and TV shows, I get the backwards and uncouth part, but unsanitary? We use enough hand sanitizer to overflow Lake Michigan. So of course India's opinion of us has nothing to do with our hands, which are in fact, probably too clean. Rather, it has to do with how we clean up after going number two.

Look at it this way: If you were playing at the park with your kids, and you accidentally fell in some dog poop and got it on your arm, would you grab a piece of toilet paper, wipe it off, and go about your day?

Almost every other developed nation uses a bidet in place of toilet paper. Traditionally, the bidet was a cleaning device that was placed next to the toilet. These days, bidets can be retrofitted into your existing toilet. They can also be plumbed into your hot water supply to make the experience far more pleasant than the old cold water types.

Bio Bidet makes an extensive line of bidets that retrofit to existing toilets. Adding an attachable bidet is obviously a less expensive option. Toto offers a range of bidet options, and I often recommend these to clients who are willing to spend more for the best.

I think Americans need to get going, so to speak, and do our part to improve the world's opinion of us. Our national obsession with cleanliness should not be limited to our hands. It's time to join the first world and clean up our, um... act.

Bamboo is actually a type of grass... Eucalyptus could be either a plant or tree, it seems.

The bamboos /bæmˈbuː/ are a subfamily of flowering perennial evergreen plants in the grass family Poaceae.
Eucalyptus /ˌjuːkəˈlɪptəs/ is a diverse genus of flowering trees and shrubs in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae.
