Party of 5 or 6, its a group of friends having dinner. In walks a clown. Clown starts randomly walking around the restaurant doing balloon animals for kids and shit like that. I have no idea what the fuck is going on, we didn't hire this guy. He walks over to the table of 5 or 6 and selects a man from the table to perform a magic trick for. He did the trick, a small flash of smoke and fire happens and then magically there is an engagement ring on a rope. The man takes the ring and the woman gets on her knees and asks the man to marry her. The man says no, tells her to get up and they continue dinner. This table now has the attention of the entire restaurant (like 300-400 people on our busiest night). Everybody just turned away and started awkwardly eating like nothing happened.

The CEO of the company I work for was introduced to a new saying the other day that he now likes to use as much as possible: "bronzing up".

Apparently a cop friend of his referred to a "bronzer", which turned out to be somebody who had covered himself in his own shit. Apparently the guy in question was a prisoner or something and he didn't like the idea of having to go to court that day so he "bronzed up" and they had to hose him down.

Has there actually been any sizeable backlash about a female Doctor? Maybe it's the circles I run in, but I've only seen backlash to a backlash so far. I saw way more bitching about the Doctor's gender when Peter Capaldi was picked.

This is one of the worst parts of the internet. A whole bunch of stuff defending something that isn't being attacked. But then the defense gets picked up by bigger media outlets and suddenly there is a conflict with two sides, except one side never existed to begin with.

Happens a lot more on the other side of the coin though. And it's always stuff in that "trending" column on facebook. When you click on it, you never actually see ANY posts to warrant the backlash, only the backlash.

(See websites like Young Cons, Chicks on the Right, etc. They always like "The left is FURIOUS about what this PATRIOT did!" And it's like an article about something completely innocuous, that no one is upset about. It's something the right has done WAY better than the left. "Better" meaning more effectively, but all it does is divide us more).

There has been backlash, but it's been outnumbered by the people who are for it and are speaking back against the backlash. I'm fine with one person saying something misogynistic/racist/etc and 10 people pointing it out. Make that first person reassess, make it clear that they're in the minority now and that they need to grow up. Don't run the risk of one really loud voice swooping in, telling them "nah, you were right" and then being elected president.

Eh, internet backlash and support has changed and built many things, it just depends on the situation. Microsoft changed how the XBox One worked after internet backlash, Kickstarter and the like are built on internet support, internet support got Deadpool made.

The backlash (which is quite small, but VERY vocal) is even LESS qualified an argument than it usually is, in these situations.

There are male and female timelords but it's very gender-fluid and completely equal, and the character of The Master already regenerated to and from male and female, so there's an easy precedent. There is LITERALLY nothing about the role of The Doctor that requires him to be a male, or white, or anything else.

I'm not talking about support at all. When was the last time you saw conservatives and liberals "supported" each other? Or a piece of successful legislation that was only 'supported' by one side only?

Now, if backlashes are taken as constructive criticism, I suppose it can be valuable. However, it doesn't happen very often, does it?

Destiny, Diablo III, and The Division come to mind, and I'm sure plenty of others that I just can't pull off the top of my head. Consumer media can be heavily influenced by consumer response.

Yes, it was about people's reaction to a product, not people's reaction to a politician, or a politician's reaction to a product. Just because a similar movement is happening politically doesn't mean that everything is political. Society and politics are dealing with some of the same issues right now, but that doesn't mean they are one and the same.

I agree with you that consumer backlash may be what's needed to improve products. I was just saying I think most of those 'political' backlashes are pretty stupid and meaningless... much like he said she said. That meme, to me, seems like the issue is being politicized. I also do agree that we shouldn't politicize everything, but I do believe most people just cannot separate politics out of their lives at the moment...

Anyway, just wish to clarify that I don't disagree with your stance and I'm not the one politicizing the issue. Whether if this particular backlash will improve anything... we'll see.
