Used to be that Brewdog Brewery made it easy for you to stumble upon their original Brew Dog. But that doesn't seem to be the case now. https://www.brewdog.com/usa/about/history shows one particular dog near the top, similar to what I remember. But he's not promoted like he once was.

Apparently Britain is on the cusp of having a larger majority of remain voters in the next few months. All the old bigoted potatriot cunts are dying off and their 18 year old replacements are naturally more willing to stay.

Bring on another referendum!

Actually, since the derivation of "amateur" is doing things for the love if it, one might think that professional spellers would be more likely to misspell "amateur" than amateur spellers would.

And everyone should be able to guess that "amateur" is a word that I myself have had a tendency to misspell over the years.

Er, that and "misspell".

P.S. George how big is that animation you posted up there? It seems to eat my web browser.

I played Fortnite with my son last night...

The things we do for our kids. ;)

Yeah,, I started getting into PUBG and liked its relative realism.... and Fortnite seemed like a circus clown version of it (YES, I know PUBG already borrowed a lot from other games as well), yet Fortnite gets super popular...of course a lot of them are kids that play it which doesn't help its image.

I mean it's so bad that the second most searched term on Pr0nhub this year was "Fortnite"....wtf?

George
December 13th, 2018, 11:25 AM
I haven't played Fortnite, but I've watched my son. It looks super-cool to me.

I'd like to see the Fortnite/PUBG concept done in a larger open world such as Los Santos.

Parachute in. No approaching storms. Last man standing wins.

None of this ten-minute stuff. Games could take a really long time to to finish.

Maybe call it...

Just for facts, yes, at least for cheaper items.

I ordered some cheap PC speakers once (~ $10) and it didn't show up, so I said I never received it, so the sent another one and received it....and like 3 weeks later, the other set showed up.

Crazed_Insanity
December 18th, 2018, 05:20 PM
Yeah, you win some lose some. I’ve received multiple orders from amazon too and it costs them too much to ship it back so they just let you have it. Sometimes I wonder how they make money... I guess if they accidentally shipped you an extra iPad, surely they’ll want it back...

Also, nowadays they take a picture of the package at your porch so you know it’s delivered. If you claim theft, they’ll probably try to hide your package better for next delivery... as to exactly how many times we can do this... not sure, but surely there be a limit. Probably just refund you the money and ask you to leave them alone! And your address will be forever blacklisted by Amazon! ;)

Rare White Ape

^ Yep.

They’ll make enough sales at a profit of $5 per sale, that it’ll earn Bezos so much money that he can retire for infinity years. I’m pretty sure they can handle losing the odd $100 package.

Consider the volume deals they do with shipping companies as well. I pay $5 per month as a Prime subscriber, which gives me free shipping on most of the things I’d buy from them. Usually express postage for a video game is something like $8 for overnight delivery. If I buy just one thing per month then it pays for itself. If I buy two things, surely they’re losing money.

Or are they???

I’d wager that they’ve got a deal with Australia Post that gives them overnight shipping for $3, because they’ll be shipping in bulk. It all comes from the one distribution centre, so it cuts down massively on logistics until the goods get close to their destination. If they can wrangle a deal for $2.95 then they’ll save millions per year.

*googles*

It’s $6.99 a month, or $54 a year.

As an introductory offer, it’s $4.99 a month until the end of January.

Amazon opened for business in Australia just over a year ago, and Prime became available in June.

^ Hah!

That’s exactly the reason why most workplaces still run Windows XP or 7 on their desktops. We’ve got 7 at work and I fear that moving to 8 will be the cause of much consternation among my colleagues.

You can forget about using 10 in a workplace. Absofuckinlutely.

We use Win10 exclusively, and our extended enterprise is hundreds of thousands of client machines. A Win10 Enterprise deployment is much more controlled than what a typical personal user deals with.

I am not a Win10 fan, just stating it's very capable in the workplace.

At the station I used to work at, we went from XP/7 mix to 10 on all machines. Nearly everything worked better (a lot of new hardware was involved too, of course). But even the critical stuff, like production control and master control were put on 10 and worked great.

I still support systems running QNX4, released in about 1994! Some of the software was written in the late 80s on an earlier version of QNX.
They are now on virtual machines as there is no compatible hardware still around.

I had Wednesday off due to the Polar Kotex. The boss had decided on Monday that we weren't running because of the weather. I came in Thursday morning and was handed an envelope containing a copy of a hand written letter from the owners to the drivers telling us how much they cared about us and how much we meant to them. That meant a lot to me. The gift card was a nice touch as well. The roads were shit and my route was 100 miles away. I never got over 50 mph all day and at times was doing 35-40. Being out in the cold wasn't all that bad because I was bundled up. Thermals fucking rule. The biggest worry should've been the produce freezing, but it wasn't as the reefers were set to 48F. Normally they are set at 36-38 depending on the season. I was more than happy for that day to be over with.

We use Win 10 on all our new computers at work. There is a few windows 7 or 8s floating around.

The actual work software though I think is older than rocks. Runs through Citrix though supposedly that's getting updated soon.

Only problem we seem to have is related to Excel though. I get a lot of freeze ups and crashes on shared files since the PC I use swapped to Windows 10. I suspect its something to do with shared files open in different versions of the program.

I don't know whether to be disappointed with Office 2016 or Windows 10, but after we switched from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (and continued using Office 2016), we could no longer save macros in our hidden personal.xls workbooks to use with any spreadsheet one might open. I've figured out how to save macros within any individual workbook, but what's the point? Having to create them anew in every new spreadsheet completely defeats the point of using them.

Example: I routinely export data from accounting software to Excel. Once I get it in Excel, I want to run a macro that immediately changes the font and text size, removes all borders around cells, removes background colors, changes text to black, deletes columns I don't need, center-justifies date columns, changes number columns to accounting format, and then center-justifies, wraps text, and bolds the column headers. For many years now, easily created and saved macros made that a one-click operation in any spreadsheet.

Kchrpm
February 4th, 2019, 09:27 AM
Have a data sheet/tab that you paste in as-is or as values, use formulas in a different tab/sheet that has the columns and formatting you want and pulls the data in.

George
February 4th, 2019, 09:45 AM
Thanks, Kchrpm.

However, it's still more work than it used to be.

My message to Microsoft is if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Kchrpm
February 4th, 2019, 10:57 AM
Really? You're just pasting in the data and letting the formulas run, unless I'm misunderstanding things, and the formulas themselves are very simple.

But I'm not generally a fan of using macros in Excel unless absolutely necessary, because of how they work and the issues that can come up with sharing them.

George
February 4th, 2019, 11:18 AM
Yes, but then I have to keep another spreadsheet somewhere and open it first. Before they changed it, it was just a button to click on my Quick Access Toolbar from any spreadsheet.

I realize this is a minor thing to quibble about, but it used to work really well. I like things that work well and miss them when they are taken away.

For what it's worth, I never shared spreadsheets with macros. I can't think of why I would want to. I just used them to do my work faster and with far fewer mouse clicks.

Yes... the virtual machines run much much faster even when we have 4 of the old machines running together on a single new host!
The originals were on 486. But with QNX being so efficient and fast that was enough to do the job. They got moved onto newer hardware and over the years would have ended on much faster clocked pentiums and just hummed along.
But even then the jump from 10 year old hardware to a hugely better speced virtual server gave them a performance boost.
I did have to fix an issue at one point where they got too fast and it caused a race condition, they worked in conjunction with another system and occasionally would beat it for speed - something they never did before.

It’s actually amazing how little the speed cost is for using a virtual machine, especially if you are just crunching data.

Oh and no problem with the clocks and knowing the year! The originals would have run code and special hardware (with a video feed into the box) to keep their internal clocks “frame accurate” for tv work. Later machines we trusted with NTP.

On a similar note we had a machine that had been “up” for over 10 years and it needed its power to be removed to go onto a better UPS. It was a worry that the hard disk might of died and we wouldn’t have know as it wasn’t used once the machine was booted and running.

dodint
February 4th, 2019, 11:43 AM
Interesting. I was sure you would. I was running a Windows 95 VM on an ESXi host and no matter what I did I couldn't emulate the performance of an old processor. I was playing the original Sim City on it (we had a fair amount of downtime in Afghanistan!) and the game played at lightning speed, several game years would go by in a second. I used the ESXi configuration to set the correct processor and used a software solution on the client VM but still couldn't do anything to get is slowed down.

I had this argument with a buddy. He said you can't tell the difference between low bitrate and high bitrate music. I can compress the music files copied from disc on my truck to save space on the HD. I had a few different Tool albums, so I started with Jiambi, by the end of the first pair, he wasn't making that claim. I didn't even get to do the Bluetooth stream comparison.

Early on I was told if the customer signed off on the proof indicating their approval of the job "as is", then the job will be printed. If they want things changed, they can pay to have the job done again.

One of several things that soured me on the sales profession years ago is that making money was more important than doing the right thing. And I'm all for money, but standing by while shoddy work is done is a sad situation.

Haha, I didn't notice the dot hanging out at the bottom.

I'm sure the "photographer" was probably whoever in the office/warehouse had the best cameraphone.

I could fix it in Photoshop but I don't want to.
