I suppose this can go here as well as anywhere else. I have eaten in this restaurant, although not nearly this much or this quickly. They have pictures of their 72-ounce steaks on the walls and menus and they are a truly fearsome sight. This lady ate two. All I could put away was a mere 18-ounce ribeye and one beer, which I remember being in a mug so large I had to use both hands to lift it.

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A competitive eater from Nebraska has set a record by devouring a 72-ounce steak at an Amarillo steakhouse, and then decided to chase it down with another 72 ounces.

The Amarillo Globe-News (http://bit.ly/TQGbwz) and the Twitter page for the Big Texan Steak Ranch say Molly Schuyler on Monday downed the 4 ½-pound slab of beef in 4:58.

She then took a more pedestrian time of 9:59 to finish the second.

The restaurant invites anyone to a free meal if they eat not just the 72-ounce steak, but also a baked potato, shrimp, a salad and bread roll in less than an hour.

The previous record was 8:52.

In February, Schuyler, a 5-foot-7, 125-pound mother from Bellevue, Nebraska, ate 363 chicken wings in 30 minutes to set a record in Philadelphia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESCB_-8L994

“We witnessed history,” Big Texan co-owner Danny Lee said. “If there’s a zombie apocalypse, I want to stay away from this girl.”

I've been there too. I couldn't take out the 72 ounce steak. I got through about 50 or 60 ounces of it and had to stop. I probably could have finished it but I didn't relish the idea of sitting in a car on that much food, and we had to make it to Norman, OK yet that day.

How many counties is that?

Asian Carp are legal to bowfish in Indiana with zero limit to how many you can take.

in fact... state law seems to say that if you were fishing and caught one you could be in violation of a law making it illegal to possess one. that is, unless you kill the fish immediately upon catching it since it's an invasive species. no catch and release for the Asian Carps.

F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is a bad idea from the get go. It just doesn't make sense that one plane can be used to complete all kinds of missions. As if we can buy one car that can drive like a sports car and then fit a big family and then haul a big load of cargo. But as the cost of developing new airplanes skyrocket..., when you can only afford to buy one car and you really need a new car to replace your old ones, it's kinda understandable how one might get suckered into this stupid idea. To me, the concurrent engineering, committing so much into production before you actually finish testing is the dumbest idea of all. That's lobbyists abusing power... or congress being too corruptible... that shit definitely need fixing.

With regard to stealth technology, I don't think anyone advertised that stealth planes are completely invisible to radar, just that a good stealth design can significantly reduce your radar signature. If I'm not mistaken, B-2 probably has the least radar signature so far... mainly because there aren't any vertical fins at all..., but anyway, I could be wrong. ;)

Except he didn't actually design the F-16 and also petitioned for it to have smaller radar. He just likes old school planes.

The thing that f'ed up the F-35 was the B variant. It forced a single-engine design and stubby wings for STOVL.

It's well known that current RAM doesn't work particularly well against VHF radar, it just doesn't absorb very well at that frequency. Fortunately, only ground-based radars are VHF due to reasons of the size required for adequate gain and narrow enough beamwidth. So copious amounts of jamming via EA-18G will be required where they're concerned. Most aircraft radar are X-band, however the N036 Byelka planned for the PAK-FA (Su-50) has L-Band radars within its complex, believed to be for sniffing out a rough location of a stealth fighter and then narrowing in on that one spot with X-Band thereafter rather than spreading radar energy over the whole sky. Other methods of doing this include the use of phase interferometric RWR receivers and copious amounts of processing as planned for the Tranche 3 Eurofighter DASS upgrade. These provide geolocation of enemy radar threats down to 0.1deg in azimuth and elevation and 0.1% range, which is not only sufficient for targeting in itself but can also be used to cue radar. If you can narrow your radar to a +/-0.1deg spot rather than a +/-60deg sweep the returned energy increases by several orders of magnitude and the consistency can be used to filter against noise.

There's also copious other amounts of techniques being tried, like passive multi-static radar, where several units working together look at the affect a stealth aircraft causes when passing through the omnipresent field of EM waves (TV, radio, mobiles etc.):

http://tech.mit.edu/V121/N63/Stealth.63f.html

http://www.cassidian.com/en_US/web/guest/Passive%20radar%20from%20CASSIDIAN%20remains%20inv isible

The other methods include using a narrow-band chirp to send with stepped carrier frequencies as a continuum and monitoring for a characteristic frequency responses of known stealth aircraft held in database. This known response is used to pull them out of the background noise.

There's also the optical methods, heat signature, vortex trails, missile launch detection etc.

Unlikely given the physical size of a B-2. Officially it's still the F-22 but the F-35 marketing gang have tried make out that the F-35 "does stealth better" recently.

Of course one problem with stealth is this situation:

http://theaviationist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Typhoon-Su-27.jpg

A regular task involves intercept and escort. But what if things turn bad? Can't exactly rely on stealth anymore.

actually.. Sprey didn't want the F-16 to have ANY radar on board. he envisioned an extremely lightweight single engine dogfighter. think of a modern MiG-15 or F-86 type airplane only with missiles.

the F-35 has VERY limited space in its internal weapons bays and its limited even further for the STOVL/VTOL operations. they want to replace the F-16, F-18 and A-10 with it. the F-4 was the last jet that all the services used and it wasn't exactly a stand out performer in any category it operated in.

Only if it has interferometric RWR but then the F-35 also has that (AN/ASQ-239), as does the EA-18G (AN/ALQ-218). Rafales (SPECTRA) and Tranche 3 Typhoons (ESM) also have it and they might actually work if it comes to using them against Flankers and MiGs if you catch my drift.

actually.. Sprey didn't want the F-16 to have ANY radar on board. he envisioned an extremely lightweight single engine dogfighter. think of a modern MiG-15 or F-86 type airplane only with missiles.

Sprey actually wanted a passive radar.

Sprey's ideas about using an A2A ARM are fine until it comes to the enemy going passive or duping that seeker. Using passive radar homing it's also difficult to get the accuracy required. Even A2G ARMs have now been fitted with terminal active MMW radar seekers for that very reason despite having larger warheads than AAMs anyway.

Modern AESA also offers far more than just detection and targeting. You can exert powerful interference with enemy datalinks used for comms and missile guidance.

http://www.armada.ch/aircraft-self-protection-sophistication/

The latest support to self-protection will however originate from the new aesa radar which is to replace the Captor system, providing in a spiralled programme with passive, active and cyberwarfare RF capabilities.

You can transfer vast amounts of data, useful data to friends or corrupt data to enemies, including false ground map images.

http://defense-update.com/features/du-1-07/feature_aesaradar.htm

High resolution SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) for seeing what's going on on the ground through heavy cloud.

http://www.eurofighter.com/the-aircraft

There's also the active cancellation element of stealth that they help provide.

The F-35 doesn't have to carry all it's weapons internally and it's not often an F-16 or F-18 carries more than 2 2,000lb bombs, 2 AAMs and 2 drop tanks (already included internally in F-35). The F-35B is essentially a Harrier replacement, which was never a great load carrier. As a strike fighter the F-35 is okay. For air-superiority, it's mediocre.

The F-4, despite its critics, had more air-to-air kills (277) than any other post-WWII fighter.

You mentioned the F-4 kill count, which made me interested in it's kill ratio. The internet doesn't seem to have an agreement about what that number actually is (which is also something I find baffling.) While browsing, I did encounter this factoid that I'm not sure is true, but maybe you could shed some light on it.

Does the F-15 really have a 105:0 ratio in combat?!

Depends if you count all losses or just air-to-air combat losses. Overall losses are high, in the hundred - Vietnam, SAMs, blown up on ground by rocket attacks etc. A2A losses are around 106.

Does the F-15 really have a 105:0 ratio in combat?!
I think it's actually 104:0 officially, although highly debatable. According to Russian sources, in a 1981 2v2 encounter between IAF F-15s and SAF Mig-25s, both types shot down one of the other. If true, that would make it 105:1. Not suprisingly, the IAF has not acknowledged any F-15 A-A losses. If you also consider fratricide situations, the score would be 106:2 - a Japanese F-15J accidentally shot down his wingman with an AIM-9. I'm not sure if the hovering helicopter that an F-15E hit with a GBU-10 in Desert Storm counts.

If you believe Iranian claims, the F-14 has a record of around 164:1.

You will find some disagreement over figures but these are ball-park. Some aircraft just get lucky, depends on the opponent. Even the Sea Harrier has a perfect A2A record, despite being ill-suited to the task.

Considering its price, F-16's record isn't that bad... as for the Harrier, I wonder if it's really just luck or perhaps the vertical flying part can actually help it dog fight better?

Anyway, in the day of suicide bombing terrorists, it'll probably be very hard for F-22 to have much of any records. Likewise for the F-35. Probably will just be a bunch of 0-0-0.

Having no cannon was definitely a bad idea at the time. AIM-7D Pk stood at about 8%, rising to 13% with the AIM-7E-2 near the end of the Vietnam War. Early AIM-9 Pk was 16%. The AIM-4 was a total POS, achieving 5 kills from 54 launchings, with half of the seeker heads cooked with the missile still stuck on the rail. For comparison, in Desert Storm AIM-7M Pk was 34% with AIM-9M Pk at 67%.

AIM-120 Pk stands at 59% (Iraqi no-fly zone and Balkans conflict). The longest confirm air-to-air kill stands at 35km (Dutch F-16 AIM-120C vs Serbian MiG-29). The range of IRST (Infra-Red Search and Track) is about 50km against stealth aircraft. Kind of makes you wonder. Training scenarios vs real world.
