1/4 Jo Schlesser’s accident at Rouen on July 7, 1968, came at the start of lap 3; yet the race ran its full 60 laps duration, uninterrupted…

2/4 It was Schlesser’s F1 debut, having done two German GP in F2 Matras. His Honda team-mate John Surtees had refused to race the RA302

3/4 The RA302’s magnesium chassis & full fuel load proved inextinguishable. Surtees later quit Honda after refusing to drive it at Monza…

4/4 Schlesser was the fourth GP driver to die in 1968, as Jim Clark, Mike Spence and Ludovico Scarfiotti had already sadly perished by July…
