My level 20 female Awoken (Defender) Titan is only about half way through Venus and Mars isn't open yet. Been having too much fun just rolling around; collecting bounties, doing patrols, public events and strike missions. I also started a new character: a male, EXO, Hunter. And I've decided to play him as if he is part of a clan of EXO hunters that have restrictions on what kind of weapons can be used.

EXO Hunter clan build:

Subclass: Bladedancer
Primary: Hand Cannon or AutoRifle only
Secondary: Sniper rifle only
Heavy Weapon: Machine Gun only

For those that don't know, once you have any character to Level 15 you can begin any new character and pick the subclass from basically the beginning. I think you have to wait til you finish the first mission to have access to your character. So at Level 2 I could change the subclass.

And here is cool site where you can check out your character with different shaders before buying them. (http://db.destinytracker.com/Character)

Verra' cool.

::

I also deleted my Human Hunter and remade him as a Human Titan. Dennis & I chatted about changing the Subclass but I'm going to leave him as a Striker.

Since levelling happens *so* friggin' quick, when I started receiving pieces of standard Titan red armor @ level 7, I just deleted them. I like the look of the early Titan blue armor @ levels 2-3 better. Keeping it until something better looking comes along. #papertitan

Can I make a female character with a large, heaving bosom, and long, flowing, brown hair?

Sorry Keith, you can only change the face & hair.

Thanks for the tip about the sub-class. Now that my daughter's Bday is past I should be able to get online a bit more.

I am honestly a little let down by the limited amount of options.

I wish there were more guns. I know it's not Borderlands, but maybe it should try to be, a little bit.
I wish there was a bigger story. I thought this was supposed to be an epic adventure, but it seems to mostly be just "go here and shoot stuff".

I love the feel and gameplay of it. To me though... it just needs something 'more'. :|

Got my Warlock to level 15... Then I went and completed 4 bounties (still as the Void class).

Back at the Tower, I switched to the newly unlocked Sunsinger class, turned in those bounties... and with that XP, leveled up four new abilities without even playing as that class. Now Sunsinger is useful because I can throw a grenade, double-jump, and use the Sunsinger special ability in combat when I first try it out.

The Azure Blue Crew rolled hard last night, fulfilling bounties and regulating justice.

Not sure how crazy I am about using the Shaders but I'm sure glad that they're not permanent or one-time-uses only. They're incredibly uniform, whereas matching individual pieces of armor generally looks more detailed. Eh, it's something to try. :)

::

I've picked up a new habit for Destiny (idiosyncratic gaming tics, I haz 'em!): I sit my character down to review gear. Instead of just standing there, staring off into space, I like to park my 'toon down on his butt while I work my Inventory. Typically I do this in the closing moments of a mission or after taking down some Big Bad. When I'm done, I stand back up. Weird, eh? ;)

Bungie: Destiny’s Vault of Glass Raid Open, Progress Saved for One Week (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Bungie-Destiny-s-Vault-of-Glass-Raid-Open-Progress-Saved-for-One-Week-458949.shtml)

In an official Twitter message, the studio explains that the Vault of Glass content is not limited in terms of the time it will be available and all players will have a chance to test their skills against the challenge when they feel they have the necessary skills and items. At the same time, progress will only be saved for one week, which means those who enter it should try and complete it within this time frame.

The company adds, “Bungie Specialists have confirmed that, while you may be able to access the Raid before you reach Level 26, such acts would be very foolish.”

Vault of Glass is part of a range of late game content aimed at those players who have already managed to quickly level up their character and want to experience a tough and challenging fight.

So this is the first six-player/two-team raid that's open, correct?

Correct.

And a little info for ya, an enemy that is 1 level above you does 30% more damage and you do 30% less. 2 levels below and it is 40% for both. So that's why I got housed by a level 22 Dreg lastnight. So yeah, don't even try the Vault of Glass til you are Level 26.

Another little tidbit. Increasing the armor rating of a piece of armor with Light also increases the Light rating.

I haven't gotten to the end yet, but if Bungie hasn't changed things, this game has a 10-year story arch. So there will be more content released. This is simply a different kind of game than a traditional Halo or CoD in terms of story and progression.
This.

I've been dwelling a little bit about Destiny and trying to project mentally why we should keep playing. This damn good article posted on GamesRadar.com tells me why. (http://www.gamesradar.com/if-youre-worried-about-destinys-longevity-or-level-cap-you-dont-understand-destiny/)

Sorry about bailing on the invites yesterday. Last night when I booted up, I was planning on picking up where I left off on my "Get 9000 XP without dying" Bounty. (I was doing this by doing the Earth Strike mission 2+ times.) Yes my progress is the story is still slow. I'm still NO farther than the Moon. I still have NOT played Crucible. And I'm still having a BLAST!

I would of joined up when I got the multiple invites on boot except that... as awesome as it is to roll with you guys.... I die... a lot  And there was that big white whale of a bounty I was chasing. I did get it... and even found a few blue and a bunch of green encrypted items along the way. Back at the Tower, the Cryptarch gave me a pair of Legendary Boots for one of those blues! (I can't wear it yet.... and it doesn't have much in Light stats... but still  ) I know I was incredibly lucky... The Cryptarch is a notorious bastard.

Proof: https://twitter.com/TheCryptarch

A couple of farming runs later... a random community event... and I ended the night going from level 16 to 18.

I played the Crudible last night to get a bounty. Kind of dissapointed in the scoring on the territories game (forgot the name). You only get 25 points for neutralizing and 75 points for capturing the area? :(

Out of the 5 games I played (to complete the bounty) the point leader was always the one that had the most kills. :( I was between 0.33 and 0.75 in K/D because I was trying to play for territories instead of kills. My bad. I guess since total points count more I shouldn't martyr myself to capture the territories. :| Just promotes team deathmatch gameplay in a non TDM game. :(

novicius
September 17th, 2014, 09:52 AM
Doesn't it also keep scoring your team points based on how many territories you have captured?

On a fleetingly related point, Phil, his buddy Chris, Dennis & I played in a Crucible match to start the game. We lost.

21Kid
September 17th, 2014, 10:30 AM
I don't remember actually. I didn't see a counter going up with the time though. It would make sense, but the team with the most kills always seemed to win, no matter who had the most captures.

Maybe it's not that bad. But, I was always in the bottom of the rankings even though I had the most captures and the least amount of kills, usually.

Destiny's Vault of Glass Raid Already Shattered: Clan Primeguard Claims World First Success (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Destiny-s-Vault-of-Glass-Raid-Already-Shattered-Primeguard-Claims-World-First-459080.shtml)

Vault of Glass statistics

Primeguard, the clan that managed to finish Vault of Glass before any other players in the world, clocked their time at 10 hours, 42 minutes and 3 seconds, which speaks to their dedication. The high-level raid went live yesterday, and a lot of fireteams were patiently polishing their rifles waiting for the doors to open, in the hope of finishing it first.

Primeguard was a six-person team, comprised of three Titans, two Hunters and a Warlock, and they all died 1,606 times during their ordeal, with a KDA (kill / death ratio average) of 3.59, which means that they scored 5,733 enemy kills over the 10 hours.

They reported that their average lifespan was 2 minutes and 22 seconds, so you don't have to feel bad for dying often either, as it happens even at the highest echelons of play. *Developer Bungie acknowledged Primeguard's impressive feat in a tweet, challenging the team to try mirroring the achievement on hard mode, which is reportedly much, much tougher.
W T F ? ! *Whoa boys, we got us some work to do! *:D

Put on those Legendary boots and my Light level almost got me up to level 21.
Still haven't moved past the Moon on story mode... nor done any Crucibling. I'm a slacker and I love it

So for all of you level 20+ players... what's your strategy now? I'll probably start attempting the daily and weekly strikes (but I'm not Raid material just yet.) I'm wondering if any of you have picked a Faction (in the Tower) to align with? What are the benefits of it? I'm thinking of just sticking with Vanilla Vanguard and not joining any of them. Jeeze, I feel like I might be playing this game all wrong... that the game is LETTING me do that... and that I'm having fun and perfectly fine with it.

GreatScawt

Jeez, you got Legendary boots already? Nice!
I honestly would recommend just burning through the story quick. You get some nice stuff along the way.

Then there's plenty of ways to farm engrams (which I have been doing). Do the Dark Side of the Moon mission at lvl 9, go the Temple of Crota where the doors open up and enemies spew out (after scanning the Guardian). Kill them (except the Hallowed Knights) and let them kill you. It'll spit you back out at the beginning of the stream of enemies. Great way to grab some blue or maybe purple engrams. Stay outside the doors, just in case. Any rare engrams you miss are mailed to you, I believe. There's plenty of videos on that and other farming techniques as well, if that's your thing.

I just hit 21 last night, with blue-tier items for every slot. Some grinding, some strikes, some missions, some patrols, some bounties
Loving the scout rifle I have - Acheron SR5. Potential to do 230 damage from the base of 213.

Dennis, Phil & I have been farming the Academy on Venus successfully (without self-terminating  ). I've picked up six blue engrams there over the past two days (in addition to dozens of green engrams).

Also, Rocketland in Old Russia has a circuit of chests that you can do at lower levels but I don't think I've ever picked up a blue engram there...

For now I'm not joining a faction because it isn't worth it to join one of the factions unless you play a lot of Crucible since you only gain experience for that faction through the Crucible. Where as with the Vanguard you gain experience playing PvE.

I got up to Level 23 last night but I don't think I will be able to get any higher without at least one piece of Legendary gear.

I've been farming the "Dark Beyond" mission on the moon for a while and still haven't had a legendary drop. A couple buddies have, however. JUST finally got a decent chest piece with light, which bumped me to 22. To get beyond that would require legendary gear I think :\

Try some farming techniques like Dark Beyond. Do it for maybe 1/2 hour to 2 hours. You should get loads of blues. That will level your cyptarch. Whenever you level him he sends you more items to decrypt in the mail. I think level 5 should get you a legendary engram. Also, upping your vanguard and crucible ranks also give you gifts in the mail.

Denetti

After doing some reading this morning it looks like we'd be much better off doing the strike playlist then anything else. It's the best way to get Vanguard rep and not have to reply on random drops. Sure, we might get a lucky drop in the strike playlist too, but this way we have a better chance of success. I think this is also the best way to get strange coins (for Xur) too, but Im not sure about that yet.

826

In addition we need to be sure to do the daily heroic, but I think we've mostly been hitting that every day.

Buy Legendaries from the Vanguard, Crucible, and/or Faction vendors.

Buy an Exotic armor piece from Xur on the weekend, and/or an Exotic weapon.

In 8 days you can have 130 of each Mark, that's enough to buy a helm and two other armor pieces for 250 marks total, or if the Exotic you get is a helm, you can buy three other pieces for 195 total and save the extras for Legendary weapons/armor going forward (or a rare Sparrow that you can upgrade to Legendary with Xur!).

I see so many people getting frustrated with farming engrams, only to be consistently disappointed by the Cryptarch when he decodes engrams into other classes legendaries/exotics, or (more often) more blue items or materials.

I also see people despairing that they're stuck at light level 24.

The Marks are there as your primary, guaranteed means of gearing up in full legendary gear, and Xur guarantees you'll get at least one Exotic a week. If you're lucky with Strange Coins or you farm a lot, you can get a weapon and armor from him on the same day. It's 13 coins for armor, 23 for a weapon. If you have spare Motes of Light, you can gamble 23 of those on an Exotic Engram... but don't be surprised if you get another classes Exotic with it (no big deal, it's Motes of Light for that).

I absolutely agree that the current loot/reward system and the psychologically hateful and pointless identifying of Legendary Engrams into blues/other classes items is really terrible design, but you are not at the mercy of the RNG for your Legendary gear - the Marks system will get you what you need in a little over one week of effort, and minimal grinding.

You can earn Vanguard Marks from Vanguard Strikes and completing Public Events (which also award you some Ascendant Materials, both in the mail from your daily gold reward, and from simply completing them).

Farming is far from guaranteeing anything. But it's worth a shot here and there. Don't do it 24/7, because you're not getting other things, like marks and ranks and strange coins (unless you can get some bounties done in there in the process).

The key way I justify it is this: even if I don't get legendary engrams ever, I'm still getting loads of blues to decrypt. Which level up your cyptarch and ALSO still give the chance for a legendary item. It's just another game to play occasionally... the RNG game

Neat.

If you check the back of the grimore cards, there are bonuses for killing each enemy more times,... collecting so much of one type of element... playing one type of PvP game type, etc...

All characters earn more Glimmer when this combatant is killed with a Glimmer-drop consumable active.
Rank 1 47/100
5 points
Rank 2 250
5 points +
Rank 3 500

Cloaks, marks, and bonds can now drop in this Playlist. Tournament Tickets also become more common.

Although, buying engrams doesn't level him up nearly as much as the ones you find.

Thanks for the fun matches over the weekend guys! I finally finished the story last night. It was horrible... and I still love it. I can totally see that the story had to get rushed or rewritten or chopped. The key point for me was when my ghost said after beating the Black Heart and the huge fade to white... "We're back on Mars!"

Actually, no. We're not. We're still in the same green lush place ("beyond time" as you described it). Not an iota of red sand to be seen. Ah well... it was still fun.

I got my Warlock to level 25! I kept finding better blue gear with more Light that I would switch out too. My Legendary Boots still has MUCH leveling to go. That's going to be a grind/farm task. Where does one find "Ascendant Energy"? (I THINK that's what I need... that and the Blooms from Venus... but at least I know where to find those.) I'm going to need copious amounts of both to boost those boots.

[Edit]

Oh... and I forgot to mention that I'm luckier than all of you. My first Legendary Weapon Engram.... netted me NOT a Legendary weapon... but instead an EXOTIC. I never liked Fusion Rifles until I met the PLAN C. Has a helluva kick, but it works like a hot knife through butter. :)

D'oh! I'm still Level 24 but I've got enough Vanguard Marks to buy two pieces of armor (since I'm not getting anywhere near the quality drops that the rest of you folks are!), which should be enough to eventually push me up to Level 25, I'd think?

Maybe purple engrams will start dropping for me once I'm wearing some purple gear? No clue but I've never had a purple drop or a Legendary drop yet. :|

I have one legendary set of boots for the warlock that came from a purple encrypted engram. That's the best I've got so far, and I have two characters at level 22 and one at 18. Everything else is blue or green. :( My best gun so far has been a hand cannon called, "Sir Issac."

That said, I think legendary items should be as rare as they are. Blues are called "rare" but they are obviously quite common.

I use Sir Issac too! It's my primary weapon of choice. It's explosive bullet upgrade is wonderful.

I currently am wearing all blue gear (except for the purple boots). Some blue gear I've found has MUCH more Light than others. I swap out any item I'm wearing for extra light. All the blue gear I'm wearing has been maxed/leveled-up as that usually only takes Glimmer and is fairly easy to do.

As for weapons, I'm only holding blue weapons (and the one gold PLAN C). Anything else gets broken down into spare parts. Most of my blue weapons are fully leveled, but I'm still working at getting the Gold one optimized.

Here's a hint that I personally didn't know until yesterday: You can only have one exotic (gold) item on each side of your gear display. So basically, you can only have one exotic gun equipped and one piece of exotic armor equipped.

I have received (5) Legendary engrams but only one of them has turned into a Legendary Item. Four came from drops during general gameplay and the other was from the Cryptarch for Leveling him to Level 4. The one Item I have that is Legendary, as you can see, is a Heavy Machine gun aka Zombie Apocalypse WF47. It hits hard and anything with a blue shield stands no chance even higher level guys. just chews right through them.

I have enough Vanguard marks and Vanguard level to buy a Legendary piece of equipment but I'm not going to until I get the Vanguard to Level 3. Supposedly at that level they give you a Legendary item. So I don't want to buy a chest armor and then be given one. So I'm just going to keep collecting marks and leveling up the Vanguard until then.

I almost have enough strange coins to buy an Exotic from Xur. Hopefully he'll have something next weekend from my Titan. And speaking of Exotic, I received a package from the postmaster that has sent me on a quest for an Exotic weapon. Currently I have to finish five strikes without dying. Looks like all the scrounging I do during story, patrol and strikes has paid off since the quest is received due to finding a ghost fragment.

The helmet was a very lucky item for me -- the Cryptarch was feeling generous. He decrypted a blue drop (rare) into a purple (legendary). That helm is normally only available via Crucible rep.

I've only gotten 3 other purple/legendary drops -- 2 of those decrypted into blue, and the third decrypted into a legendary Hunter Cloak.

The gauntlets I bought with accumulated Vanguard points. I'm like level 2.25 now.

Next step for me is to get Vanguard level 3 and be able to buy a purple/legendary weapon. Plus I need to get a lot more materials from the Moon and Venus for leveling the helmet and gauntlets.

Last night for me, I did a couple of strike missions... got the achievement for collecting a week's worth of Vanguard points (100)... and then turned in some engrams. I ended up getting a Legendary item... but it was Hunter gloves. No matter, I'll just break down my first purple gear and see what I get. Lo and behold... 3 ascendant materials that I needed for my Legendary boots! Hot damn. Now all I needed were some Venus blooms. I quickly do a patrol down on the greenest planet in the game. Down there scavenging, I end up getting drawn in to a public event where my Level 25 Warlock really helped dominate the hill so that we gold star it. I finish up finding enough blooms and then add in the first level of upgrades to the boots...

That gear only raised ONE smidgen on it's Light stat! It went from 22 --> 23 Light  :(

This barely moved my overall level meter on my Warlock. Apparently this is actually normal, and the NEXT upgrade on these boots will give more Light. Still, it was a tough discovery.

Then as I wrap it up... I realize that I hadn't gone and set ANY bounties. All my previous bounties were already collected. Wasted XP opportunity :smh:

And I have an Auto rifle that does pretty damn well. Shingen-E with full upgrade. It has an upgrade that when in ADS it will slow down the rate of fire but do more damage. It is very effective. I would like to try a Rare Scout rifle but I haven't seen a single one yet.

Great time running through the Queen's Strike Challenge with Novi... and was it Denetti? (Sorry, it was late and I forgot).

I had just spent most of my evening, clearing out my previous bounties so I could make space for Queen bounties. After tackling a couple of hers, I could then try out one of her Strikes. I was solo at the time, so I wanted to get a mission I could actually beat. (Being Lvl 25 soloin a rated Lvl 24 strike match is no cake-walk... and then they add buff to it too!) So I would enter a strike and then just RTO (Return To Orbit) if it was a mission that I would be dominated in. Apparently the selection of the Strike mission is random (and maybe the buffs are too?). I eventually got a Moon mission to destroy a shrine. Hunt and Pecked my way through that and was able to beat it.

Thank you Exotic Fusion Rifle "Plan C"... Thank you.

I ended up getting some Legendary chest armor called The Queens Robes  Put that on and was going to call it a night when I checked the Orbit map and saw a Friends Icon on the Queen Strike. I checked the Roster UI in the game and saw Novi and Denetti (at least I hope it was you Denetti or I'm gonna owe someone here an apology for forgetting them) was in a Queen Strike. I decided to see what would happen if I joined their fireteam.

Sure enough, there was a slot... and I joined them. They were doing the same mission I just accomplished (though my pistol wasn't as strong this time... that's why I think there are alternating buffs. Side Bar: Does ANYONE know how to identify what those buff icons represent? I find no where before the match where they explain what the little skull icons mean. Anyhow... I digress...) So since I had just accomplished this strike, I felt pretty useful. I knew where enemies were probably gonna be and where to go on the map. Even knew of a nice camping spot at the final boss :)

Anyhow, we beat the shrine and I got ANOTHER Queens Robes! I could disassemble this one for more parts to upgrade my original set. And I witnessed that each fireteam member got Legendary equipment. #nomorecryingNovi #IsawNovigetLegendarystuff

I have a D-Link DAP 1522 which you're welcome to for the cost of shipping. It's a wireless bridge, so it connects to your wireless network and then connects via Ethernet to the xbox. It's 802.11n and plenty quick, but doesn't have the best reception so if your wireless signal is weak at the xbox, it may not help. Of course, you can always run a 30' Ethernet cable between it and the xbox and put it in a more optimal location. ;)

thesameguy

Yes, but no.

A router in "bridge mode" is not the same thing as a "wireless bridge." The former is still only a wireless access point, whereas the latter is a wireless client. It's possible that you could use tomato or DDWRT or something like that to change the behavior of the WRT54G, but a) I've never tried that and b) I don't think so.

Edit: Unless you're talking about the super-old, 1st gen WRT54G, in which case it *can* do that. But only the first ones - from ~10 years ago. The subsequent releases of the product lost that feature.

ROFL!

Looks like DD-WRT can indeed transform host to client, so if you have a DD-WRT compatible router, you can swap firmware and make it do what you want. But, if you really have a ten year old WRT-54G, it can actually perform the function out of the box. Of course, you could also run DD-WRT on that old WRT-54G and have DOUBLE THE POWER, but it's probably an unnecessary step. ;) I'd personally be surprised if there were any first gen WRT54Gs still working (all mine failed after five or six years), but who knows? In any case, DD-WRT (and thus probably Alchemy and tomato) seem like they will get you sorted on newer hardware.

I didn't have to frig around more than about 10-15 minutes. Dennis and I were doing some patrols on the moon last night, hoping a public event would show up. I'm pretty sure I've got 4 or 5 purple engrams. And all but one were blue / material when he decoded them. Bungie has since nerfed the popular farming techniques, but apparently they plan on adjusting drop rates and decoding chances to be more beneficial - according to the dev notes.

Yup, Cryptarch level really doesn't mean much besides showing you when he will give you a gift in the mail.

Xur is in da house. Now's your chance to use Exotic Coins to buy legendary stuffs. And Motes of Light to buy an exotic engram.

YAS

http://www.bungie.net/7_102-Patch-Preview/en/News/News?aid=12202

The 1.0.2 patch will go live next week, and includes several changes to the Cryptarch and Engram experience. These changes guarantee that Engrams will always decode into items at or above the quality of an engram.

Only Engrams that drop after 1.0.2 are subject to this change.

Cryptarch Changes

Cayde-6 took the Cryptarch aside and showed him a sack of doorknobs. He decoded that mystery pretty quickly.

•Legendary Engrams will always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics

•Rare Engrams will always produce Rare or better quality items

•Rare engrams will have an increased chance to produce Legendary quality items

Activity Changes

•Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will include Rare and Legendary Engrams in addition to their existing rewards

Item Changes

•Ascendant materials have been promoted to Legendary to closer associate them with the gear they are used to upgrade

•Legendary Engram items that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality when the patch goes live, so decode them while you can. But let’s be honest--even if you don’t, we all know they were blues already...

Destiny's Story and Gameplay Were Drastically Changed in 2013 – Report (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Destiny-s-Story-and-Gameplay-Were-Drastically-Changed-in-2013-Report-460229.shtml)

Plenty of changes were made to the game last year

The report appeared on Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2hqmkb/how_destinys_content_completely_changed_over_the/) and claims that, in 2013, Destiny's story and its gameplay were shaping up to be much more impressive, but in the mid- to late-2013 period, a series of drastic changes were implemented, culminating with the departure of Joe Staten, Bungie's lead writer, presumably due to these actual modifications made to the initial script.

Some changes include plenty of characters and factions that got pulled out of the whole game, including Crow, someone who represented a new party interested in exposing the Traveler, the mythical being that protects Earth, as being responsible for bringing forth the Darkness and all of its evil factions.

What's more, the actual factions that are present in the game's Crucible Player-versus-Player competitive mode were supposed to play much bigger roles in Destiny's story, but that was also cut, alongside other parts of the narrative.

Mission progression was also changed due to the overhaul of Destiny, as players were initially able to plot a different course through the four major environments in the game, as well as explore new areas of Earth, like Old Chicago, besides Old Russia.
This makes a lot more sense -- the game does not feel deep enough for it to have been in development since Halo: Reach (2010). Destiny has obviously been cut-down and shipped to satisfy. As much as they want to develop the title, I would not be shocked to hear about a full Destiny 2 sooner rather than later.

Lord High Fixer is still holding court at 277 dmg (first Ascendant Energy upgrade). I could do one more but I'm sooo, so frugal with ascendant materials.

Also did the Level 28 Weekly Heroic (not the nightfall... yet :|) last night. 1xLVL28 and 2xLVL27. That was rough. But you can cheese the boss pretty easily. LOTS of major adds waltzing around that don't go down easy.

I was able to play acouple strike playlist missions with Dennis and Cam last night, before losing internet connection for some reason, and both missions dropped a Legendary Engram. Got my first exotic bounty - Toland's Legacy. It'll give me Bad Juju. I have a feeling I won't be able to do 25 strikes + heroic/nightfall before Xur this weekend. We'll see... excited to get this gun, because they specifically targeted it (and Thorn) as exotics that need a buff.

Yeah, I'm close to giving the high level stuff a run -- 27 and inches away from 28. #needmoreshards

I also would love to come across some other Exotic gear other than the Sunbreakers. I've still got no love for the Sunsinger subclass. :| Looking forward to finishing this off and going back to Voidwalker permanently, so I'm kind of leery to shard-up these gauntlets. I don't have enough Strange Coins to get anything from Xur anytime soon, tho', so I'm at the mercy of the RNG. :smh: I do like my Queen's Hood however, so that's where my shards have been going. #shrug

Overall it's been a good run; Destiny is still a good time and I'm almost got my 'toon just where I want him, numbers/gear-wise. I like my Awoken Warlock, he's fun to play and I've also got my hands on a popular Auto Rifle, Forcing Function. Its crazy rate of fire plus a 59-shot mag makes for a veritable fire hose of lead. :D Epitaph 2261, a Legendary Sniper Rifle I found during some random Strike but is also available from the Vanguard Weapons Dealer, makes for a very effective pair combined with my Chest Armor's boosts to Auto & Sniper Rifle ammo. My alt Secondary Weapon is a Void-infused 5-shot shottie that I'd pull out against the Vex but lately I've been thinking that I need to get on the Fusion Rifle bandwagon.

I use basically the same gear for every outing -- anyone here have different sets of gear depending upon the type of play they like? A friend of my cousin has different sets of gear for boosting different stats depending on what he wants to do, something I find to be an insane degree of min-maxing and gear-switching... :twitch:

I don't know, why don't you just buy the game and play it and find out, rather than asking endless questions about it? :finger: :assclown:

Re: Switching gear, for PvE I usually use the strongest weapon (usually a Scout Rifle) and a sniper rifle. For PvP I usually swap over to an Auto rifle, and obviously whether I use a shotgun or sniper rifle depends on the map. I tend to stick with an MG for both PvP and PvE, but that may be because my current rocket launcher is da suxx0rz (178 damage when I'm level 24, WTF ). If I get a better rocket launcher I'll probably use that sometimes for PvE but will still stick with an MG for PvP.

In what ways is this game better than Borderlands 1/2/Presequel? In what ways is it worse? Other than story/acting.

I don't know about the Borderlands presequel yet... But, the graphics are top notch. The controls are more precise. It has PVP, if you want to. And there are a lot of new missions, events, equipment, etc... being added constantly.

It's more along the lines of a MMO, where as Borderlands you either play solo, or with a group. In Destiny, the main trading city is always full of other people. And you will come across them while playing a story mission too.

You can't trade weapons, gear, money to other people. Which is kind of disappointing, since I don't care much for scout rifles and if I get a good one, it would be nice to trade for a burst rifle, for example.

The gear in Destiny can be leveled up. But, there is more variety of weapons in Borderlands. Which can be a plus or minus. I feel like I'm switching weapons a lot more often in borderlands and get more attached to them in Destiny.

Borderlands has more distinction between classes. Where in Destiny, you are all gunners... just with different special abilities. Everyone can use all weapons in both games. But, the classes in Borderlands have better bonuses per class for using specific weapons. I wish Destiny would add something like that. The sniper class in Borderlands has bonuses to accuracy, ammo, damage for the sniper rifles. There aren't any sniper bonuses for the Hunter class in Destiny. In fact, their melee weapon is a knife and their special weapon is a golden gun (pistol). Quite the opposite. :(

Both games have pretty good AI.

In what ways is this game better than Borderlands 1/2/Presequel? In what ways is it worse? Other than story/acting.
I've only played Borderlands 1 for all of 60 minutes by myself, that's all I've got to go on. Kid's experiences with the class- and weapon-specific differences are much more helpful than my input.

From what I saw, B1 has more style than Destiny. More character. B1 is also significantly more over-the-top and campy than Destiny.

In Destiny you have good core gameplay, decent resource management & level upgrade mechanics and a serious tone throughout. This game is a literal mish-mash of Halo/Terminator/WH40K/Doom, all wrapped together in a "box" whose overall size, shape and dimension you cannot fully see. Activision's meddling, Bungie's whoring and the defection of key Bungie personnel over the past 12 months have resulted in a smaller-than-expected title with a rushed, vague story. There are things in this game that I want to see expanded upon: personal spaceship use, expansion of the personalities of the Tower/Fallen/Vex/Cabal/etc., the story of (and entrance to?) The City, the natures of the Traveller/the Darkness, hundreds of more missions, etc. These things are not yet in this game nor won't be for months or potentially years, if ever.

IMO, the Story chapters are painfully singular experiences. You're re-killing the same specific bad guy over and over again, as though your earlier runs through never happened. Just like replaying Halo: Reach or Halo 4 chapters over and over again with friends or matchmaking buddies, looking to get a better score or maybe find a new hidden secret. Bungie did not build the game with a random name generator for the baddies. There is no attempt to give the semblance of unique experiences here. You play through a chapter on Easy, get experienced and better gear, now you're ready for that same chapter on Hard.

So you have to play through each Story mission and Strikes to beef up your character to take on the highest level challenges; in the process, you've beat the storyline to absolute death. This is not Skyrim-in-space. This is a singular on-rails storyline that you repeat over and over again at increasing difficulties, period.

Yet even with this egregious black eye, Destiny is still a lot of fun IMO. The action is fun, the concept is awesome, the enemies are quality, there IS variety to be had in your builds, there are free-roam areas to explore through, there are jet-bikes, it's a fun game. But don't go into Destiny thinking that it's this deep, dusty tome of a book that's going to keep you guessing all winter 'cause it's not. It's a comic book, just a very beautiful comic book and one that makes you flip back through the pages repeatedly. You put it down and walk away thinking you're done after you've read it 20 times -- yet wait awhile and you can't help but think about the next time you're going to re-read it.

Ended up getting some really good fortune:
-Praedyth's Revenge (http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Praedyth%27s_Revenge) from beating the Templar (purple snipper that only drops from the raid apparently)
-Suros Regime (http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Suros_Regime) from the left chest in Gorgon's labrynth (exotic Auto Rifle)

And this is a day after I max out the Lord High Fixer... but I absolutely cannot complain. First exotic I've got my hands on. This thing is going to take ages to level.

Started the bounty for the Bad Juju. Heroic Weekly finished (Nightfall is REALLY hard - we couldn't do it, even cheesing the boss :|). Now to do 25 strikes

Got another exotic weapon bounty. "Kill 500 guardians in the Crucible."

Edit: Correction, it's "Use Void Damage to defeat Guardians in the Crucible. Death will slow your progress." Well, I might as well delete the damn thing. :|

My Bros and I keep getting murdered in the Crucible (I'm talking 20K v 8K points). It's hilarious, though, afterward we look at our 5 ships flying together in formation and fall over ourselves laughing.

We just have to start doing the Nightfall strikes. Plus the weekly Heroic also gives ascendent material, Level 26 gives +2.

Maybe this exotic weapon bounty won't be so bad after all. I played one Crucible game, got 10 kills with a K/D of 0.67, yet credited me with 14 guardian kills toward the bounty. :?

Crucible kills aren't too tough as long as you play Control. You can then at least camp a cap spot for keels. :D

Maybe assists count towards kills?

Your first Gold rating in a public event each day also gives ascendant materials or a strange coin. So I try to get an event when a do the day's patrol bounty.

From Destinypedia:
Use Void Damage to defeat Guardians in the Crucible. Death will slow your progress.
Must get 500 points. 5 points gained per kill with Void damage. 2 points lost per death.

So it's not 500 kills, it's 500 points. Sounds like the bounty doesn't make that clear.

GreatScawt

Pretty sure assists count as kills. In contrast, my Bad Juju bounty will eventually require 10,000xp in crucible. Crucible based, but in a different way.

Thanks for clearing that up, Denetti. That's a relief.

Edit: Void damage rocket launcher works pretty well. :)

I'm calling in a couple of tough hombres to take on a level 26 Phogoth strike for the Thorn bounty. I need to:

"Kill Xyor, the Unwed in a level 26 version of The Summoning Pits Strike.
The level 26 version will only become available when this bounty is active.
Xyor spawns amongst the waves of enemies, so Phogoth must remain alive for her to spawn.
Once she is dead, it is not necessary for Phogoth to die."

I couldn't even get in the door solo. Prairie Fire and I tag-teamed it, but got stymied in about the same place. Lots of blue-shielded knights with yellow health bars. Most certainly a toughie. Any guardians handy with a gun willing to help me out this week-end some time? You'll need your ultimate diesel bad-ass face on.

Xur is up and he has very tempting wares...

Finally a warlock chest piece... but I JUST got a raid legendary chest yesterday. Oh, the choices.
He's also got the exotic sniper, the Ice Breaker. I'd recommend buying that for folks who don't have anything there yet.

If you see me on any time this weekend Cam, I'll drop what I'm doing and help you out. I owe ya. Sorry about not getting you there last night. I'm still a bit rusty after being afk from Destiny for about 10 days.

So who and where is Xyor the Unwed anyhow? I want to make sure that it is *you* that gets that kill. I think some of these challenges are player specific... NOT team specific. So if you have that bounty, it is YOU that has to do the deed. (At least that's how it was for the Queen's Bounty of "Kill 3 Walkers".)

Cam
October 10th, 2014, 04:45 AM
It's not your fault. It is a freakin' hard fight. If I understand correctly, Xyor will spawn in Phogoth's room. It seems like we would just have to eliminate all the bad guys around Phogoth until there's nothing left. From what I've observed, it seems to count kills from the team toward bounties like this. That's what happened for the get 500 points thing in the crucible, as well as "Kill Sepiks Prime" or "Kill Riksis" etc.

Cam

Here's a pretty good video about eliminating Xyor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXo7Jtl34gY

Yeah, he's a tough one. Good luck. I (arguably) helped a buddy do this. I was mostly just cannon fodder
It's hard enough fighting the enemies off just waiting for him to show up. A good flame sniper would be useful on the wizards, which means someone may want to consider buying the Ice Breaker for Xur. 6 shot flame sniper with regenerative ammo =

Cam

Super Good Advice makes very short work of wizards. :hard:

It's the shielded knights with the yellow health bars and rapid-fire grenade launchers that are the problem. :thppt:

Ice Breaker is all kinds of amazin'.

My prediction is they remove the unlimited ammo perk, or slow down its regeneration.

In the strike I was just in we all had it. It made rather quick work of the Archon in Winter's Run. I don't think his head ever stopped snapping back.

I like to read about the guns you guys are using, and I just like the idea of this perk.

Mulligan: Missing a shot has a chance to return ammo directly to the magazine.

Keith, there's a lot of interesting weapon perks in this game. Maybe not as creative as Borderlands, but they're neat. I had a perk on a scout rifle that let me shoot ammo to pick it up. Very cool.

About nerfing Ice Breaker, I'm not sure. It's an apparent issue now because everyone has it. Bungie seem to be more interested in buffing the bad exotics first. Still nothing on Thorn or Bad Juju yet, though.

Yeah, I think we have to start doing the Weekly Nightfalls and the Raid. On the X360 I think we may have enough to give it a try. I know we are high enough in level.

The Raid gear allows for a higher light level than standard Legendary. In fact I haven't upgraded any of my Legendary gear because of that fact. Plus you supposedly get copius amounts of weapons and ascendent materials in the chests along the way.

Just got an xbox one and destiny a couple weeks ago, level 16 but i swear I dont feel like I know or understand anything about this game. I love it but it seem like there are so many things you guys are talking about that seem like its not the same game I am playing.

October 16th, 2014, 06:02 AM
I don't know much either. The game itself doesn't explain anything very well. I accidentally did the last story mission before two of the others. It played out pretty weird. :| And there are no instructions on what you're really supposed to do or where to go.
I think most people have just learned what to do from others or reading online.

novicius
October 16th, 2014, 09:13 AM
Yeah that sounds impossible. I was rolling with cousins again last night and I got absolutely stomped: K/D Ratios of 0.3, 0.6 and only once did I hit 1.75.

I was working on the bounty for "Bad Juju" but since I was gifted the Exotic Rocket Launcher "Truth", I'm going to delete it to free up the slot. #fuckthatnoisebungie

Cam
October 16th, 2014, 10:11 AM
I'm considering deleting it too. I seem to have a good game, then a bad game, then a good game, then a bad game... Can't get anywhere that way. :(

The Thorn bounty, however, is still waiting for the right moment for a few guys to be online with the right weapons. Need to have a combo of good weapons that do solar (red) and arc (blue) damage. I've been trying to get my titan up to level 28 without much success. Shards are few and far between. #addingahashtagsocarlowillunderstand #thisisthelasttimeiuseahashtag
