At least on the GOP side, Trump is claiming he's funding his own campaign... and Ted Cruz is also playing anti-establishment tune and anti-lobbyist(anti-rich people like Trump)... so Republican party is unhappy with both of those leading candidates at the moment. If the 'GOP establishment' really has software available to alter voting results, surely none of these 2 bozos would be leading.

Unless the 'establishment' knows that GOP is a lost cause and just focusing on getting Hillary to win the election.

Sigh... I think Bernie's losing because of his appearance.

I've heard that 5yr olds can predict the outcome of elections within 70~80% accuracy. Just give them 2 pictures of the competing candidates from around the world... and ask 5yr olds to pick the person who they'd prefer to be the captain of their ship around the world... yes, kids can pick the winners with remarkable accuracy.

So put a picture of Hillary and Bernie up, I guess it's probably obvious that kids most likely will pick Hillary...Trump probably will lose too. Surely kids don't usually have a preference for people with weird hair.

Democratic voting proccess is really a joke. Might as well just let our toddlers vote. Usually end up with the same results! ;)

Bernie Sanders has been saying similar things on CNN for years (http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/18/politics/bernie-sanders-over-the-years-cnn-crossfire/)

(CNN)Bernie Sanders has proved to be a durable Democratic presidential candidate based on his vision of democratic socialism. But while the Vermont senator's ideas may be new to many, he's actually been articulating them for decades -- including as a frequent guest on CNN's former debate show "Crossfire."

Show transcripts from 1998 to 2014 show he's been remarkably consistent. Much of Sanders' language could be taken straight out his 2016 stump speech.

I can only assume the original question was "What is something people pretending to be poor might have that indicate they're not actually poor."

The thing that is sad and hilarious about this question and the answer "cars" is that these guys have completely failed to recognize the concept of "working poor." Or, maybe they simply don't want to recognize that concept because doing so would require them to address all sorts of decidedly stickier issues.

A CONTROVERSIAL policy to stop migrant attempts to enter Australia has been hailed a success after the government announced it had gone 600 days without any refugee boats arriving.

Since the policy, which Australia said was designed to stop migrant deaths at sea, no successful attempt had been made and 25 boats have been turned back or taken to remote Pacific Island camps.

In 2014, Ford announced he had liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer that grows in the body’s soft tissue. In October 2015, Ford revealed that the cancer had spread to his bladder. Speaking to press outside a Toronto hospital, Ford seemed to acknowledge that his life was nearing its end, asking for people to help his wife and two children.

“I’m optimistic, and I’m a realist too. If that has spread once, where else has it gone?” he told a press scrum outside Toronto’s Mt. Sinai hospital.

“If I pass before my time, I just ask people to please try to help out Dougie and Stephanie and Renata in any way you can.”

Ford became an international figure after this website broke the story that a video of the mayor smoking crack was being shopped around to news outlets. Ford later admitted that he had tried crack, which dovetailed with his public persona as a jolly but ultimately harmless boozer who barreled down the hallways of city council, drunkenly spoke in patois at a place called Steak Queen and confidently told the press that he could not have eaten a staffer’s pussy because he can just do that at home.

He was... one of a kind, at least in our country.

There may have been a bit of a falling out but keep in mind also that he died in 1967 and was made a martyr for marxist revolution, which Castro continued to be big on. Martyr Ché was good for his propaganda.

More the latter. While Trump says some crazy shit, and has obviously surfaced all that's wrong with people in this country (the widespread bigotry that we all knew was there...), he's an unknown, in that, we have no clue what he'd actually do in office. Good/bad/apocalypse, totally unknown, since he only says the same three things al the time to get people to beat their chests.

Cruz, on the other hand, scares the absolute living shit out of me. He's already said that we should carpet bomb the middles east, then in his interview on CNN the other night, said he would make his first action to move the embassy to Jerusalem. Which, is unnecessary, unless you want to move it there so it gets attacked, to justify your carpet bombing.

The only good thing about Trump, is that he's done what he's done (referring to the above, laying out, in the open, all that's wrong with the party and more scarily, the people...). He says shit to get a reaction, and get a reaction he does. Rubio tried to follow suit, and threw in the towel within an hour of getting his ass handed to him in his state. now Cruz is "trying" (and failing, nobody can out Trump Trump, this is his wheelhouse).

Whenever Cruz is on TV and opens his face, I hit mute or change the channel. When Trump's on, we watch and laugh. We're in NO WAY a Trump supporter (I think the whole premise is appalling), but it's entertaining in any case.

So, yeah. Given the choice between Trump and Cruz, if I had a gun to my head? Pull the fucking trigger, please.

Anyway, the main reason why I'd like to see a 4 way race is that I'd like to see exactly how the country is divided.

So far I'm predicting Cruz, or whatever GOP established candidate, will finish last. These are the folks who are afraid of the liberals and who doesn't like Trump.
Trump then should at least finish 3rd place, ahead of whatever GOP has to offer based on the primary results so far...
As for Hillary, I'm sure there are a lot of her supporters only supporting her only because they want to unify the party... if the right is split, they'll probably feel more comfortable voting for who they really want?

Anyway, I just can't believe how can anyone NOT like Sanders after hearing him speak and examining his past records...

A few people turned around and looked at the "reporter", I was really hoping one of them would yell "SHUT THE FUCK UP" on live broadcast, but I didn't get my wish.

So, fuck the media too. They're the reason this is such a shit show. Trump feeds off of it, and they keep throwing him tubs of chum.

This race demonstrates, in a very real/horrific way, what's wrong with the whole thing. All it does, is makes me realize just how goddamn brilliant Trey Parker and Matt Stone are. "Don't you see son, it's always a choice between a douche and a turd"

No one told me I was going to be interviewed by a Muslim: Suu Kyi

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi lost her composure and made an anti-Muslim remark about a BBC presenter after she was grilled about Myanmar’s violence-hit Rohingya Muslims. “No one told me I was going to be interviewed by a Muslim,” she was heard muttering after the interview with BBC Today presenter Mishal Husain, according to a new book.

Suu Kyi, who led her National League for Democracy party to a historic win in Myanmar’s November 8 elections, made the off-air comment about Husain after losing her temper during an interview where Husain asked her to condemn anti-Islamic sentiment, British newspaper The Telegraph reported.

Pakistani-origin Mishal Husain, 43, is the first Muslim presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. The comments were revealed in Peter Popham’s new book ‘The Lady And The Generals: Aung San Suu Kyi And Burma’s Struggle For Freedom’.

During the interview, the 70-year-old global peace icon refused to condemn anti-Islamic violence of Rohingya Muslims despite being repeatedly asked to do so by the BBC Today presenter.

Her response, according to The Telegraph, was: “I think there are many, many Buddhists who have also left the country for various reasons... This is a result of our sufferings under a dictatorial regime.”

Removing Assad will start start a sectarian conflict, which will help Israel and its Western Allies.

Holy fucking shit. I can't believe she's even still in the race. She makes Trump look like Kofi Annan. She should be in a court in the Hague not the White House. Conspiracy to cause genocide.

If the Assad regime topples, Iran would lose its only ally in the Middle East and would be isolated. At the same time, the fall of the House of Assad could well ignite a sectarian war between the Shiites and the majority Sunnis of the region drawing in Iran, which, in the view of Israeli commanders would not be a bad thing for Israel and its Western allies.

JFC, I really wouldn't even attend the polling stations if I were you. The democrats are just republicans with a little more socialism and a deer instead of an elephant.

Trump’s stint with the party ended soon after he decided not to run for president. He cited the party’s infighting and David Duke’s affiliation with the party.

You may recall that Duke, a former KKK grand wizard, recently praised Trump, and Trump made news by not immediately renouncing that support.

“I don’t know anything about David Duke, OK?” he told CNN, but he later disavowed the support and said his much-criticized response during the CNN interview was the result of a faulty earpiece and his inability to hear the question.

However, I've seen Bernie being interviewed in some conservative Christian university and yet the student crowd went wild with the stuffs he said. Christian Americans just need to realize that not all atheists are evil. God loves all.

See... this is what I was talking about. When he isn't following his script, he doesn't really believe in what he's selling.

COOPER: Let's talk about nuclear issues because you talked about this in a really interesting article in The New York Times.
TRUMP: One of the very, very big issues. I think maybe the biggest issue of our time.
COOPER: That's what you said to The New York Times. You said you worried about the proliferation of nuclear weapons…
TRUMP: Right.
COOPER: So you're saying you don't want more nuclear weapons in the world but you're OK with Japan and South Korea having nuclear weapons?
TRUMP: I don't want more nuclear weapons. I think that -- you know, when I hear Obama get up and say the biggest threat to the world today is global warming, I say, is this guy kidding?
The only global warming -- the only global warming I'm worried about is nuclear global warming because that's the single biggest threat. So it's not that I'm a fan -- we can't afford it anymore. We're sitting on a tremendous bubble. We're going to be -- again, $21 trillion. We don't have money.
COOPER: So you have no security concerns…
TRUMP: We're using all of the money…
COOPER: … about Japan or South Korea getting nuclear weapons?
TRUMP: Anderson, when you see all of the money that our country is spending on military, we're not spending it for ourselves; we're protecting all of these nations all over the world. We can't afford to do it anymore.
COOPER: But isn't there benefit for the United States in having a secure Europe. Isn't there benefit for the United States in having a secure Asia.
TRUMP: There's a benefit, but not big enough to bankrupt and destroy the United States, because that's what's happening. We can't afford it. It's very simple.

QUESTION: In your opinion, what are the top three functions of the United States government?
TRUMP: Well, the greatest function of all by far is security for our nation. I would also say health care, I would also say education. I mean, there are many, many things, but I would say the top three are security, security, security.
We have to have security for our country so that we can continue to exist as a country. We are in danger. Thousands and thousands of people are infiltrating our country. We don't know who they are.
There's a very vicious world. We're living in a very vicious world and we're doing something that is against a lot of very smart people's wishes. I can tell you, it's totally against my wishes.
COOPER: So top three, you're saying, security.
TRUMP: Security. I say all top three are security, but health care, education, would be probably three that would be top. And then you can go on from there.
But the military and the secure country, so that we have a country. Believe me, we've never been in a position, in my opinion, where our country is so vulnerable. Our military is being eaten away.
When General Odierno left recently, a year ago, I was watching him on maybe your show, one of the shows, and he said that the United States Army, the United States military forces have never been so -- and I think he used the word depleted. But basically he said they're exhausted.
COOPER: So just to follow-up, though…
TRUMP: And that's a pretty -- that's a pretty sad commentary. And honestly, even though he was retiring at the time -- and I had a lot of respect for him, good man, but even though he was leaving at the time, people shouldn't say that because you're giving the enemy ideas.
But if I get in, our military will be bigger, better, stronger than ever before. It's the cheapest thing we can do.
COOPER: So in terms of federal government role, you're saying security, but you also say health care and education should be provided by the federal government?
TRUMP: Well, those are two of the things. Yes, sure. I mean, there are obviously many things, housing, providing great neighborhoods... (CROSSTALK)
COOPER: Aren't you against the federal government's involvement in education? don't you want it to devolve to states?
TRUMP: I want it to go to state, yes. Absolutely. I want -- right now...
COOPER: So that's not part of what the federal government's...(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: The federal government, but the concept of the country is the concept that we have to have education within the country, and we have to get rid of common core and it should be brought to the state level.
COOPER: And federal health care run by the federal government?
TRUMP: Health care -- we need health care for our people. We need a good -- Obamacare is a disaster. It's proven to be...
COOPER: But is that something the federal government should be doing?
TRUMP: The government can lead it, but it should be privately done. It should be privately done. So that health care -- in my opinion, we should probably have -- we have to have private health care. We don't have competition in health care.

QUESTION: Mr. Trump, in a recent interview with the Washington Post, you said that the U.S. should become a diminishing presence in NATO.
TRUMP: Absolutely.
COOPER: Why do you think that the U.S. should start to withdraw their world presence from NATO, and what would you change about the organization so that we could remain involved?
TRUMP: Okay, I did two basic and very large interviews recently. I did the New York Times, which treated me unbelievably fairly. And there was a front-page story on Sunday or -- I think, and It was a great story. And part of it was NATO -- and the other was the Washington Post.
COOPER: You really think NATO is obsolete?
TRUMP: I think it's largely obsolete, yes. It's got to be changed. It's got to be -- you don't talk about terror. Our single biggest threat right now is terror, okay? Now that's an amorphous term, but it's terror. Our single biggest threat --
TRUMP: We're paying too much! You have countries in NATO, I think it's 28 countries - you have countries in NATO that are getting a free ride and it's unfair, it's very unfair.
The United States cannot afford to be the policemen of the world anymore, folks. We have to rebuild our own country. We have to stop with this stuff. You have as an example, Ukraine. You don't have Germany talking about Ukraine. You don't have many of the countries in NATO talking about -- it's always us. We're always the first one out.
We have very big problems in our country. Very, very big problems. NATO has to be either changed, or we have to do something. And we shouldn't be paying most of the course of NATO because it's unfair - it's unfair to our taxpayers and to our people.
So, we should reduce our military, support education and healthcare. And rebuild our infrastructure. Got it! ;)

It worked for him, too, with some voters, for a while. But it's just silly now.

I watched the first several minutes of his talk with Anderson Cooper last night and finally had to walk away because it was just that bad. He has become a comedy act.

Maybe Trump is fucking up the GOP and Hillary and the entire "establishment" on purpose just so that Sanders can win!

Anyway, whatever, just hope Sanders wins in the end! I also wouldn't mind making Sanders our nation's dictator for 8 years to get shit done!

He'd split the "red" votes, but would not be a Republican candidate (the "Red" party, despite the earlier "red" connotations of communism, it's confusing.)

The Ballot would look like this (for example):

Ted Cruz (R)
Hillary Clinton (D)
Donald Trump (I)

Basically if no one gets that magic number of delegates by the convention, anyone is eligable, but making big swings (like Kasich winning) is unlikely. I'm not sure exactly how it happens, but I think they have each delegate vote, and they will vote again until someone gets the number? It can basically make the citizen voters useless.

So, we will most likely have a choice between R or D in the general election, as we do most years. However, it would be R or D or I.* There will definitely be an R and a D.

*(Actually we almost always have some third party or independent candidates, but they never really have a shot at getting close, nor are they ever Dem's or Rep's who lost their primary.)

Actual policy aside since around 1850, D was always D, and R was R, but the colors associated with them kind of changed in 2000. "Red" had been traditionally referred to liberals or "commies" because of the Soviet Union (and general world wide politics for Red=Left) for at least 50 years, if not 150, but then the news channels for some reason chose to standardize the use of red in their graphics for Republicans, and Blue for Democrats, and the whole "Red State" and "Blue State" grew from that.

Trump Either Doesn’t Understand His Own Tax Plan Or Is Egregiously Lying About It (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2016/04/04/3766069/trump-tax-plan-2/)

On Sunday night during a “town hall” broadcast on Fox News, Greta Van Sustren asked Donald Trump about his tax plan. Specifically, she asked him if everyone in the country would get a tax break, “even the very rich.” This is how Trump responded:
The very rich are going to be paying — well, first of all on the very rich, let me explain. We have things in the very rich that are so unfair to the general public, especially the hedge funds guys, like carried interest and different provisions, that are very complex that a lot of people wouldn’t understand. But I’m getting rid of carried interest and frankly the ones that I’m really concerned about — you know, I like the workers — I call them the workers of this country — the best. I don’t necessarily like the very rich, even though I’m one of the very rich. But the very rich are going to end up probably paying more but there’s an incentive for them to invest in the country and to create jobs.

Trump is either completely unfamiliar with his actual tax plan or is blatantly lying about it.
According to an analysis by the Tax Policy Center, the top 0.1 percent of taxpayers — a group that includes those with incomes over $3.7 million — would receive an average tax cut of $1.3 million under Trump’s plan. Those in the bottom 20 percent of income, meanwhile, would receive an average tax cut of $128. Overall, 35 percent of the benefits of Trump’s tax cuts go to the top 1 percent of earners.

I'm being completely honest in asking this. you need a photo id for so many things in the US already. alcohol, tobacco, using a credit card in some places. why is it bad to need one to vote?

thesameguy
April 7th, 2016, 12:15 AM
Because alcohol, tobacco, and credit cards aren't guaranteed rights and aren't a basic part of citizenship. You could live your entire life and never want a drink, but that should not prevent you from having a say in the system that governs you. Unlike smoking, an elected government is the very foundation of a democracy.

That said, I am not inherently opposed to mandatory issued IDs, but you can't suddenly require someone to have an ID to participate in a basic function of citizenship. There needs to be a fair and reasonable phase-in, time allowed for people to obtain the IDs you will require before they are actually required.

I'm being completely honest in asking this. you need a photo id for so many things in the US already. alcohol, tobacco, using a credit card in some places. why is it bad to need one to vote?

Its a combination of several factors - One, like tsg said, is that its a fundamental right and the thinking is that an individual should have to jump through any hoops in order to exercise it.

Another is that a variety of studies have shown that minorities and especially the poor are less likely to have a valid ID for a variety of reasons, including drivers license suspensions, and simply not owning a car.
Although the states requiring voter ID mostly have free gov't ID programs - these are often not really free, and are often made difficult to get for some people. Usually, to get an ID you need supporting documentation (maybe a birth certificate, etc.) the poor, minorities, and especially the elderly are less likely to have these on hand and there are usually fees to get them. As far as difficult to get, there are a variety of examples of the correct offices being open limited hours, or in remote locations, etc. - Like the one in Wisconsin that recently made the news for being open only on the 5th Wednesday of the month, or 4/5 days a year. See this study by the Brennan Center for further information (http://www.brennancenter.org/publication/challenge-obtaining-voter-identification).
And lastly - Although these laws are put in place to ostensibly reduce voter fraud, there has been basically no evidence of large scale individual voter fraud occurring - Kris Kobach, the Kansas Secretary of State who is largely responsible for a variety of citizenship requirements for voter ID across the nation has managed to catch and attempt prosecution of a total of 3 people (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/10/30/3717823/voter-fraud-cases-kansas/). None of whom committed the crime with any kind of ill-intent - They're people who live in more than one state and voted in multiple local elections thinking it was not illegal.

JoshInKC

And I just saw this on the Washington Post - The conservative gladiator from Kansas behind restrictive voting laws (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/the-conservative-gladiator-from-kansas-behind-restrictive-voting-laws/2016/04/06/57ad18d2-eaed-11e5-b0fd-073d5930a7b7_story.html)

It's interesting that there's no real hubub here in Canada over Voter ID. Ours requires:

a) one form of government photo ID
b) or two pieces of non-photo ID like a birth certificate or even a bank statement or bill with your address on it

or c) someone with said ID to vouch for you and swear an oath.

I've never heard of any controversy over this at all, though, minority or otherwise. Pretty much everyone in the country has SOME kind of ID. Natives, who are the major oppressed minority here, have their Native ID card with their picture on it, even.

This just makes me sick... :smh:
KELLY: [Y]ou don’t favor a rape or an incest exception to abortion and for people like me, this may be a problem in getting behind President Ted Cruz. They think you may be too far right on social issues.

CRUZ: Well, listen, let’s talk – you know, when it comes to rape, I’ve spent a lot of years in law enforcement. I was the solicitor general in the state of Texas and I have handled cases with horrific cases of rape, of people who committed child rape, people – I went before the U.S. Supreme Court and argued in defense of state laws imposing capital punishment for the very worst child rapists. And when it comes to rape, rape is a horrific crime against the humanity of a person and needs to be punished and punished severely but at the same time, as horrible as that crime is, I don’t believe it’s the child’s fault. And we weep at the crime. We want to do everything we can to prevent the crime on the front end and to punish the criminal, but I don’t believe it makes sense to blame the child.
The host responded that people who support exceptions to an abortion ban will argue that Cruz’s policy would force women “to go through unspeakable trauma to carry her rapist’s baby for nine months.” The senator then changed the subject a bit, saying states should debate their own limits on reproductive rights.

polling suggests 83% of Americans believe women impregnated by a rapist should be legally allowed to terminate that pregnancy. So, Ted isn't going to listen to 83% of Americans... That's the kind of stubbornness you want in a president.

Dear Scott Walker: Wisconsin’s Photo ID Law Did Not Work ‘Just Fine’ (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/wisconsin-primary-voter-id_us_57056b71e4b0b90ac27115f8?)
Despite Walker’s claim that the state’s photo ID law “works just fine,” some voters were actually prevented from voting on Tuesday, with the burdens disproportionately felt by low-income voters, people of color, seniors, people with disabilities and students.

When Switlick went to the DMV to obtain an ID card to vote, he brought his birth certificate with him, along with a utility bill, property tax statement and Medicare card. He has voted in Wisconsin since he was 21. He’s now 67.

“I went there and went up to the counter and the gentleman behind the counter said ‘This stuff is no good, you’ve got to have a picture ID card, how do I know who you say you are?’”

Switlick’s documents proved his name and date of birth, his Wisconsin residency and his citizenship. But they didn’t prove his identity — he needed a piece of identification with his photo and signature, like a passport. But he had none of the acceptable documents.

“How do I get an ID card if I don’t have an ID card?” Switlick asked.
Kari Venteris of Madison also had to vote with a provisional ballot Tuesday. The 41-year-old has a disability that makes it difficult for her to get around; she moved from Illinois to Wisconsin in December and hadn’t yet had a chance to get a Wisconsin driver’s license. When a friend told her that she actually couldn’t vote with her Illinois license, she contacted Wisconsin’s chapter of Election Protection. Her birth certificate is in Illinois, so she wasn’t able to get an acceptable form of photo ID before the primary.

Election Protection advised her to go to her polling place anyway, so she did: there, she registered to vote using her Illinois license. A poll worker gave her a slip to get a regular ballot, but she knew submitting a regular ballot, rather than a provisional ballot, would be illegal under Wisconsin law.

“What country am I in, where I’m thinking, ‘Do I vote or face imprisonment or a fine, or do I walk away and not vote?’” she said. “It’s so unreal, in the U.S., to be worried about the ramifications of voting, when the polling officials say it’s fine but I know it’s not.”

Venteris is taking a bus back to Illinois Wednesday afternoon to get her birth certificate, a three-hour round trip. She estimated that the cost of getting the provisional ballot she cast to count before Friday’s deadline will add up to roughly $100.
Ben Krause-Decorah, a 22-year-old member of the Ho-Chunk Nation who lives in Waukesha, interacted with some confused or uneducated poll workers when he went to vote Tuesday. He presented his tribal identification card, which Wisconsin considers an acceptable form of photo ID to vote, but the poll workers he interacted with asked him if his ID was “real” and requested that he use his driver’s license instead, saying it would be “easier for everyone” if he didn’t try to use his tribal ID.Maybe they should say it's working "as intended", instead of working "just fine".

But, he's crafty!!! For your $45 donation you can get a Walker for President '16 Tshirt and do crafty things with it... Turn it into a pillow, a bag, frame it, etc...:mad:

I wish there was a way I could use $45 to force him further into insolvency, but I'm just not that good with finances.

I think it would be fun to start a Kickstarter to raise $6m and then drive it out to his place and burn it on his lawn.

I think they already tried that 2000-2008.

"Our Republican system is absolutely rigged. It’s a phony deal,” he said, accusing party leaders of maneuvering to cut his supporters out of the process. “They wanted to keep people out. This is a dirty trick"

Trump said that about the delegates battles, and sadly I agree with him. The nomination process is utter shite and if nothing else favors political pros against superior but less system savvy candidates.

LHutton

Well anyone who can't see that the super-delegate system is a rig is very naive. People should be out lining the streets protesting to get rid of it. Outright refusal to vote for anyone whose campaign is funded by big business is also the way to go.

Trump was in Pittsburgh today and they showed his rally on TV and it was AMAZING. It was just one big run on sentence. I swear he can't keep a single thought for more than about 5 seconds.

Holy crap, he was fighting the same issues back in 1988!?!?!?!

Although he's not a Christian, but he's probably the most Christ-like candidate... the guy was, is and probably will stay the same throughout his life! :D

He even sounded the same and with the same mad scientist look other than more wrinkles! ;)

We've got to send this man to the WH... and hopefuly decades down the road, we won't be fighting the same damn issues again and again...

Am i the only one who finds it odd that so many groups will boycott states who do things such as NC has done but will willingly go to countries where simply being gay is punishable by death?

I'm sure there's a "thats not our country so we can't change their rules" thought behind it but if you compare the two places.. which is worse? NC or somewhere like Dubai? telling people they must use the bathroom on their birth certificate or killing someone because they're gay?

I saw Michael Ian Black of all people talking about this. From what I gathered, the idea is that we expect more from our own country, so punishment makes sense. We don't expect more from a country like Saudi Arabia, and that continued exposure to the western world is more likely to bring about the change we'd like to see. It makes sense in one way, but when I think about Michael Moore pulling his movie from NC, it seems backwards. If he thinks he makes movies that will change people's minds, then he should actively campaign to have that be shown everywhere in NC, not pull it from the state.

It reminds me of the one thing that I think bugs me more than anything else about Hillary Clinton. Her argument against free college is that she doesn't want to pay for Trump's children go to go college. It's such an insanely stupid argument. If anything, I'd want his kids to go to public colleges where they can learn from sources other than their idiot father. It's the literal definition of cutting your nose off to spite your face.

While I think college is too expensive I blame the government and the schools for it. Government giving out student loans easily means the schools think hey kids can get the cash even if we jack up the price.

I am not really for 'free' college though. at that point a college degree just becomes like a HS Diploma. Plus I know a lot of people who probably would have been better suited to a trade school than their Business degree they now have and isn't helping them at all because EVERYONE seems to have one.

It's called political relatively. It also depends whether the foreign country is an adversary. E.g. take gay protests at the Winter Olympics in Russia vs Qatar winning the World Cup bid. In Russia homosexuality is legal but promotion of homosexuality to children isn't, in Qatar homosexuals get executed but nobody seems to care because they're anti-Iran and therefore an ally.

Looking at higher education in the UK, I think entrance requirements should be increased so that only have as many people get in (as per mid-90s and before), then they can all go for free and it will still cost the taxpayer less. And there won't be a ton of people with degrees who are either unemployed or in jobs that don't require degrees while struggling with student debt hangover.

I'm not really thrilled about "Free College" either, and I'm pretty liberal and overall for Bernie. University obviously needs to have affordable options. Maybe AA schools (Community Colleges, etc.) can be free, but the middle ground between them and expensive private universities (which Bernie won't change AFAIK) needs to be affordable state universities. These are also the schools that usually bring in Millions (if not Billions) in revenue through sports. More and more each year, and yet tuitions keep going up. Going to UF like I did, or FSU, or OSU, etc. etc. shouldn't cost more than a couple grand a semester. They also shouldn't be spending 7 Million on their football coaches or 100 million on sports facilities.
