World time attack again last weekend and in car of the winning lap is up. For reference it's 1 1/2 seconds off the official lap record for that track which is currently held by Nico Hulkenburg in an A1 GP car. About 8 seconds faster than the GT3 lap record. At this event you have to run Yokohama A050 semi's with a max width of 295. In car lap starts around 4 mins in

It's like it's in fast forward. He's taking that first corner at 155mph, for perspective the fastest guys in mildly modified GT4's are doing 107mph through there. Thats near 50% quicker through a corner than a well driven GT Porsche with functional aero. It's completely insane.

New cars are faster, and Hamilton et Al would be faster. But it isn't like he's a 'bad' driver.

I would have loved to do that when I was competing years ago.
But one thing I haven't figured out yet, the cars are ment to be worth 2K, yet when they sell them, you can pay up to 5K. Makes no sense to me.

The original buy price of the car must be under $2k. That then gets you eligible to run that specific exact car. Then it's up to you how much you want to spend on engine & gearbox rebuilds, rollcage, seats, belts etc.

That car is obviously then worth a shedload more than $2k a season later when the owner sells on, wanting to drive something else.

It's all in their regs.

Nope, you can rebuild the everything to your heart's content. But it is largely rebuild to factory spec. You can run lowered springs, but not adjustable suspension. Tyres are now a control tyre which is pretty reasonable (Dunlop Starspec /Z). I've run those tyres on all my tarmac cars for the last 4 years. They're hard, but they are better than road rubber. Although, you can use them as road rubber if you wanted to, not like a real semi.

It may have been the South Island rules I looked at, as looking at both last night, the south is a lot stricter.
Still love to know where they're getting those cars for 2k, as a quick look trademe shows most of those leading cars, as road cars only, are going for good money still.

Crazy that people are just standing on the edge of the track, no barriers, just a thin rope in some places and if there is a fence it's about two feet high. Truly another time when it comes to safety.
