Fuck it. For three fucking weeks, I've been fighting and losing the HTPC battle.
Two main things that really fuck me off:
1: shitty "HD" compared to the cable box it's supposed to replace.
Not as defined and choppy (I've looked at the 29/59 thing, tried both the HD7750 card I bought for it, and the GTX680, neither made a difference, despite countless tweaks and hacks in the registry/etc.
2: Getting proper sound to AVR.
I can get 2 channel though the HDMI, for cable shows (broadcast in 5.1)
MKVs have no sound at all.
Synopsis:
MKVs look fantastic, but are silent.
Cable looks like shit, and is only 2-ch.
Oddly enough, the sound works on the little TV in the other room through the HDMI.
What really pisses me off, is the X360 as an extender is perfect for TV, but MKV is shit.
So, fuck it. While it started out as a fun project, I'd rather have my sack ripped open with a rusty spoon. I'm out of ideas/configurations.
If anyone is interested in a game machine, it'll handle it.
