Look at this.

Kawasaki reaches for the top shelf and ingests the good drugs.

Sex on a stick.

Stressed engine with teeny-weeny tubular frame.

Yeah it's got wings and slicks and is dripping in carbon fibre, but this is a 300hp 'track' version of a proposed road bike. Expect the one that you can buy to take to the shops to be more benign than this thing. In this guise it's probably accurate to call it the Lambrghini Veneno of the two-wheel universe.

A big snorkel runs down one side...

...and feeds that red supercharger thing on top of the engine, which compresses the air and pumps it up into that silver airbox.

Just imagine your face pushed down under that screen, throttle to the stop as the bike pulls you into the future and your arms out of their sockets, while you watch that needle spin to the 12:00 position. The acceleration would be so savage that you forget to change into 2nd quick enough to beat the rev limiter and you headbutt the screen again. HAH!

Enter the H2, the first factory squid bike.

For everyone else not into crotch-rockets, this is the 2014 ZX-10R right now:

http://images.motorcycle-usa.com/PhotoGallerys/xlarge/11-zx10-Static-1.jpg

Aluminum frame chassis, three-spoke rims, 210 HP in a 435 lbs. machine. 10.01 seconds @ 150.05 mph in the quarter-mile -- NOT FAST ENOUGH.

So the H2 is going to a low-tech trellis frame (because it'll flex more), five-spoke rims, downforce-producing winglets and factory supercharging? Forget track racing, this is a recipe for a hooligan railing machine. :assclown:

Tubular frames are so 2011...

So is owning a 80hp Ducati.

This has a stressed engine so the frame here is doing little more than connecting the front of the bike to the cylinder head. Kind of like a Panigale but green and Japanese.

There's supposed to be a 'street' H2 also right? what, like 250hp maybe?

But that thing, with the wings? Veneno is a good comparison I think.

The regular slow H2 will be revealed in November. The press reckons 80hp less than this monster.

Just a few thoughts:
1. Why? Because they can!
2. Those tires are as bald as Gary Glitter's date.
3. It looks positively evil and would be at home as the ride of a comic book villain.

Except the 851 was a semi stressed engine. Just like my monster... and good thing my monster was built in 2001 ;)

This could be the start of a new power war and maybe first of many forced induction bikes.
Yeah it's been done before, but hasn't been at the pointy end of the sports market for a while.

Hmm maybe time to see how the aftermarket supercharging is working out for the Diavel.

Can always have more power!

There is a company (I think in Australia) doing supercharger kits for the VFR800. They're good quality fully bolt-on kits that have all the bits you need. Good extra power without compromising the reliability.

A closer look at the new supercharged Ninja (http://www.sportrider.com/sportbikes/image-gallery-inside-2015-kawasaki-ninja-h2?src=SOC&dom=fb)

Aside from minor differences inside the engine, as well as intake and exhaust systems tailored for street use and emissions standards, the supercharged engine in the H2 is essentially identical to the closed-course H2R engine. 1.4+ bar of boost @ 14,000 RPM but hey, it offers a more relaxed riding position than the ZX-10R.

EDIT: Corrected.

200PS but still supercharged (for more torque?).

200hp is honestly so ridiculously fast I can't imagine why anyone would want more.

2.4 bar absolute, 1.4 bar of boost. At 2.4 bar of boost it would be Street Hawk.;)

Quick, someone do a graph comparing motorcycle power to weight ratios over the last 30 years.

Sorry -- I mean that all of the JDM powers are chasing the 2015 BMW S1000RR (http://www.cycleworld.com/2014/10/21/2015-bmw-s1000rr-sportbike-motorcycle-review-first-ride-photos-specifications/).

The Zed-10R couldn't get the job done so now there's the H2 -- not that the difference means shit on the street, of course. Just that the power levels and track day performance stats make for flashy copy.

More is betterer!
Especially for overtaking at 100, more power is good.

novicius

In my experience, if you can't ride then no amount of horsepower is going to help once you're done doing highway roll-on races in a straight line.

Freude am Fahren
January 9th, 2015, 04:23 PM
And you think most of the people buying this bike want to do anything else? I think you'll see more of these on the highway than in the canyons.

novicius
January 9th, 2015, 04:58 PM
There are always railers who want big power, too -- it just doesn't help as much as skill.

Freude am Fahren
January 9th, 2015, 06:52 PM
Absolutely. I'm thinking though that this 200hp figure we're at now is probably about as much as even the best can use outside of a track or highway run.

Let us not forget the 1299 panigale or the Aprilia RSV4 RR. Both can be had with more than 200 hp.

If more production liter bikes (and above) start offering boost then 200 HP is not going to be the limit. Hell, the article I posted says that the H2 mill is basically identical to the 300 horse H2R mill.

Freude am Fahren
January 9th, 2015, 07:53 PM
Yeah, boosted bikes will probably be pushing out an extra 50hp before they even hit the road thanks to simple, cheap, plug-and-play tuning.

Dicknose
January 10th, 2015, 11:01 AM
250hp would be nice.
Even if you can't use it most of the time, nice to have it when you do want it.
Especially for a fat bastard like me.

It shows how different our riding culture is in Australia. To us, riding in a straight line is the most boringest thing ever, and I never see those large groups you see on YouTube riding on the highway bring general nasty-pantses to everyone.

To us it's all about finding the twisty mountain stuff. But then again, the latest techno-gizmo from Europe can be shown its arse by a well ridden Japanese 250 two-stroke from the late 90s on the fun stuff so it really matters not.

Compared to whom? The U.S.? Japan?

There are plenty of U.S. folks who will show you what time it is in the hills and mountains here. So while I completely agree with your statement that it's not the bike, it's the rider, we do have some pretty decent riders here as well.

In most cases in the US, there is not one singular culture, there are several different ones. Americans agree on one thing, that they don't agree on anything.

Harley-Davidson is actually just behind Honda in Australian market share when it comes to what they call "roadbikes" (presumably the non-scooter/dirt bike/dual sport/ATV market). I'd guess that the only markets where they have a bigger share are in North America.
