SVG and Brodie Kosteki confirmed for the Indy round now. Could be more of a level playing field with the regulars knowing this track.

Not an outstanding qualifying session for the antipodeans, but there is some promise shown right away.

Simulator time is one thing, but Kostecki had a throttle return issue which had to be fixed before he could roll out onto the track, which meant he missed all but two minutes of the first practice session. He finally made it on track for his first lap in the real thing just in time for another driver to beach it into the gravel.

He set good pace in his qualifying group but narrowly missed the top 5 to progress to the final group of 10 quali session. On his last attempt the car bottomed out going up onto the speedway banking just before turn 11 and he nosed it into the wall. He’d literally done 6 laps by that time and was pushing it. He will start 11th.

Van Gisbergen did make it to the qualifying final and set the 8th fastest lap. His team mate Daniel Suarez qualified on pole and managed to be 0.6 seconds faster than Gizzy.

My prediction: top 5 for both drivers is a certainty. Kostecki has had so few laps in the car that his race will see him dropping back a few spots just as SVG did at Chicago, but as long as he has no issues he will get faster and faster every lap and will be one of the fastest guys in the closing 20 laps.

I think SVG will play it safe in the opening stages before rocketing towards the front later on. Perhaps battling for a top three or a win, particularly if the wet weather continues to be a factor. I’m down for a SVG vs BK battle of the ages too. Imagine that!

I read somewhere that Brodie is now starting at the back.

"On social media, Kostecki confirmed he will start from the back for Monday’s (AEST race, having been shifted in a back-up chassis by RCR."

I've hardly missed a single lap of NASCAR in this past 12 months. I blame iRacing for getting me back into it after forgetting it existed when I grew out of childhood. With the SVG factor it is even more fun to watch, and I've even watched 90% of the Xfinity series, and maybe 60% of the Truck series this year.

Hell I am even taking a mild interest in the CARS Late Model Stock and Super Late Model drivers who are moving into the Truck and Xfinity series on a part-time basis, as they look like the ones to watch in the future.

Should we resurrect this thread? A bit of AU/NZ fandom for stock car racing in our little corner of the internet world?

*iRacing footnote: I got 6 wins on my oval record for all of last year, and this year I am already up to 4 wins... so basically one a month. Got my first win in the A Fixed series two weeks ago at Texas in the Cup car. I also got a Grand Chelem in the Trucks at COTA but that's on the road course side, but you can count it as a NASCAR win given we were racing NASCAR trucks. If I can get a win per month I will be really happy with myself. I'm just missing a B Class Xfinity win for the three main touring series. A superspeedway win is another goal, without being disqualified. Because that happened once for me at Talladega.

Cam Waters confirmed to be driving the #60 for RFK at Sonoma on June 9.

    https://tobychristie.com/nascar/cup-...stage60-entry/

Will Brown is also going to take part in the 33 for RCR. Brodie Kostecki no longer has a sponsor to fund any Cup races this year after Peter Adderton, owner of Boost Mobile and Mobile X, chucked a hissy fit and now sponsors Brown. It's a long story.

Meanwhile SVG will NOT be racing a Cup car at Sonoma, but he will be racing the Xfinity car. SVG's next Cup race will be at Charlotte for the Coke 600 two weeks from now.

I am extremely relieved to find out it's not *that* RFK.

Why was there some somberish video from Suarez the other day?

Did something crazy happen to him? I got the feeling it was just some overly dramatic social media post from him.
