Huh, that seems surprising considering we've got a couple of soccer stadiums and SoFi in the area, but what do I know?

SoFi is going to be used for swimming.

(and soccer, they'll be using multiple venues)

Aren't they going to utilise the Coliseum again as well?

They are going to use multiple stadiums including the MLS stadiums.

Yes, it will be used as the opening and closing stadium, and for Track and Field as it was in 1932 and 1984. They are not building any new permanent buildings or facilities. Some of the facilities will be very unique compared to recent Olympic games. For example, Diving will be outside in the facility that was built for the 1932 games. The Rowing stadium was built for the 1932 games.

SoFi is going to be where the opening/closing ceremonies are held, from what I read this morning.

"In 2028, it will become the first venue in history to host the Track and Field competitions and the Opening Ceremony in three Olympic Games."

Appears it may not be used for the Closing ceremony......

Interesting that it's going back to L.A.

My parents had the VHS of the 1984 L.A. Olympics, and I watched it constantly as a kid...would have been around 6 or 7 years old at the time and we didn't have cable. The closing ceremonies specifically were really cool, it even had a UFO and an alien came into the stadium

1984 was the year our family immigrated to the US! My uncle was trying to develop a hotel trying to cash in on the Olympic Games, but he couldn’t finish his hotel in time so he missed the boat! I didn’t even speak any English back then. The only Olympic star I recalled at that time was Mary Lou… back then gymnastic was still a white job!

Michael Jackson was also super popular back then. Gee, can’t believe that was 40 years ago…
