will be interesting to see the change when the new 86/BRZ comes out...I bet people are waiting for that one since it seems to be a lot better

I love my original and, if I can, will never sell it. But yes, it makes sense that people would wait for the new MY anyway. If things go well I might even splurge by adding a Mk2 to the collection.

It looks familiar to me too, but I can't pinpoint anything. The lines going up toward the side scoop (?) is very unique. The rear end is VERY wide and the taillights feel a bit older style?

It also looks like there's scoops behind the driver window like older Lambos but I can't pinpoint any Lamborghini either

Update, I found another frame which shows the exhaust tips. I also tried to upload the video but it's not converting correctly.

I'm still trying to figure out why the new NSX just doesn't work. Sales have been consistently disappointing from what I understand and despite that it is in a very crowded market, it just doesn't give me any of the same cool vibes the original does.

Is it too different than the original? Would it have been better to make a refreshed style of the old one? It just feels like "generic supercar" like you'd find in arcade racing games, or just like a slightly modified coupe version of other Acura (or premium Honda in other markets) models.

Even this new "refreshed" one doesn't seem too different to me

Thoughts?

A few things come to mind:

Sporty cars (and coupes in general) have partly been replaced by SUVs/crossovers as aspirational vehicles.

The idea of a supercar that you can drive daily is not nearly as novel as it was when the NSX debuted in 1990. The 911 was kind of dated. The 993 was 4 years away, let alone the 996 when the 911 really gained a reputation for being an everyday performance car. The reliability gap between Japanese cars and everyone else was much greater back then as well.

Acura as a luxury brand has never been as successful at challenging the established players as Lexus has. That matters when selling cars as expensive as the NSX.

I also remember the Ford GT stealing a lot of the thunder from the NSX's debut. FWIU, the NSX is much more livable on a daily basis, but I remember being at the Chicago Auto Show that year, and the GT drew a lot more people than the NSX.

This is exactly what came to mind first for me.

Plus, I would venture to guess a heavy turbocharged hybrid doesn't quite tug at the enthusiast heartstrings like a high revving NA powerplant does.

The new NSX is very very capable and fast around a track or autocross. It seems like not a lot of people know that, or they find something else to like more in a similar category.

The only thing I know they sell is the Eclipse Cross. And I only know that because of the bastardization of the nameplate.

As a quick glance, they sell some Mirages starting at $14k and the Outlander as well.

Mitsubishi as a company is pretty crazy, though. At this point I actually know more about their golf club shafts than their cars.

I'm convinced that Mitsubishi is only still selling cars in the US market out of the sheer stubborness of the parent company.

Even though Mitsubishi's sales have increased from their bottom in 2009-2010, since 2013, Mazda has sold more CX-5s in the US than Mitsubishi has of their entire lineup of passenger cars.

I had a Mirage as a rental for a few weeks back in '18 and it was a fun drive for the simple fact that your foot is always in it.

If Caddy only sold 6500 for the month I wonder how many Lincoln sold. I have seen a few Corsairs running around.

My next-door neighbor in high school had one of those 1982 - '86 Supras...I don't know the exact year. It was white but otherwise looked just like that black one that Hawkeye posted above. That was a dream car for a high school kid then. I had a '74 SuperBeetle that I bought with my lawn-mowing money. His father was a doctor.

He was a year older than me and we ended up going to the same college, as did his next-door neighbor on the other side. Yup, three houses in a row. They were good friends but I hung with a different group and we weren't that close, other than geographically.

That picture made me remember a three-hour ride back to college after a break with me wedged in the back and him blasting the Leftoverture album by Kansas on the excellent stereo.

I saw an Alcyone/SVX in a scrap yard when I bought my first Subaru back in 1999. My brother had helped me get my 1985 Toyota Tercel Wagon to the scrap yard and I asked whether they might have an overhead grab handle for a Subaru, since one for my wife's side was not standard (but the holes were there). I believe I actually sat inside the SVX for a while to verify that the fittings were nothing like those for my Impreza. It was sort of a sky blue colour, I seem to recall.

Eventually we ordered a handle through the dealer's parts department. They suggested it was ridiculously expensive, but I recall it was only about $25. Now I think about it, if there was one on my side (perhaps there wasn't?) I don't know why I wouldn't have just switched it to my wife's side.

(We actually saved the similar handle from the Tercel; it sits on a knick-knack shelf to this day).

Yeah that sums up American cars - that square shaped front with horror grill.
I just find those damn fugly.

Also woodgrain panels - I mean I always wanted my car to look like it crossbred with an 1800s wagon.
And those who wanted a model woodgrain, lets go vinyl on the outside of a car. That will look good in a few years of sun... fade, peal and basically be a maintenance/look nightmare.

We had a few local and Japanese cars mimic some of these styles, but mostly avoided the worst of the US kitsch.

The C3s were dogs by the end, less than 200 hp IIRC, and the C4 barely existed in time to keep the production streak going. My guess is that Corvette fans at the time were just happy to see the line still going and improving.

I've always thought the C3s were inferior in appearance to the C2s and late stage C4s, personally, and that no Corvette looks better than a widebody C7.

C2 had an identity, so I guess it wins on that.
C7 was a wannabe Ferrari.
C8 is a wannabe NSX, but not the cool NSX.

Fun with car listings:

Used 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo with 386,971 miles but Carfax shows 87k, but the pictures look 386k. Good deal for $13,998. (https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=642530704)

Used 2014 Kia Forte SX with 121k @ $6988 with a tailgate full of bumper stickers. Dealer decided not to waste any money detailing the car. (https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=643931694)

Does the driver look female to anyone else here?

In the fifties in Britain there were lots of open/amateur events (remember the old BRSCC videos in Legends of Motorsport?), and often ladies classes. (for Pat Moss, sister of Stirling, to dominate)

Would love to see a big budget movie.

Never been into those racing cars as anything but a blunt tool designed to done thing and do it fast; go fast. There are not many racing cars that are truly beautiful as they're designed for a purpose. But now i'm looking at those Ferrari 330s and seeing just how gorgeous they are.

The Mazda 323 4X4 was available in two versions: the Lux, with alloy wheels, bodykit and plenty of equipment, or the more basic Rallye, with steel wheels and black bumpers. Australia got a lot more Ford Laser TX3 Turbo than the Mazda. Pretty much same car, the TX3 was built in Japan while most other Lasers were assembled in Australia.

Now the BF and BG four wheel drive Familia's are unicorns, because their running gear was made out of butter, with a side serving of hopes and prayers. But you could get decent power out of the engines. Not the ideal combination.

A friend had a fairly heavily breathed on BFMR, and I was able to hold out an Sti coupe off over a mountain range.

Only the name. I never followed it. I do remember the Camel Guy being in ads in Road & Track magazine when I had a subscription in the early/mid 1980s. He was a curly-haired blonde guy in safari clothes doing manly things like arm-wresting in a bar in a jungle with a cigarette in his mouth.

The Marlboro Man rode a horse, but Camel Guy flew small planes and climbed mountains and so forth. This was before cartoon smokesperson Joe Camel made the scene.

When I worked in an A&W in 1975, saving up for university, the management towards the end seemed to love their new Mazda 808's. I confirm that was a designation for the 1.3L inline 4 version of the RX-3, although I can't confirm Canada was one of the markets using that designation.

And I got occasional drives home from Bunny (Bernice) the head cook in her husband's Celica. (Laws required drives home for female employees, and they found it easier just to provide them for everyone; on some summer nights I would ride home my bicycle; the restaurant was a longish walk from my home, easier in winter when I could go along the frozen river; I never got my licen[cs]e until I was in first-year university, at about 19).

As my namesake, I'm always on the lookout to see what MR2 prices are doing, in case I ever get the chance to buy one (preferably 2nd gen) again and geez....they're getting really hard to find for sale and prices are creeping up over time. If I did find a decent one, it would be an investment as I expect prices to keep going up as the other cars have already been hitting high numbers.

Now that's for the U.S. based cars...we can get imported MR2's now due to the 25 year rule, but not sure how many are coming over. I'd love to get a '98, since that was the final year of production and had the later 3S-GTE (4th? gen) with 245 hp stock

Edit: looks like FB marketplace is a decent place to find some

CudaMan

Yeah half the problem seems to be knowing where to find cars every few years. There's always some new secret place where everyone is posting their cars for sale that you don't know about unless you know about it.

I occasionally see a RHD JDM MR2 on BaT, I don't follow their prices closely but my impression is they seem to go for less than the USDM cars generally. But being BaT it's still expensive.
