It didn't used to be called that. I don't know when people started calling that. If I recall correctly when I was studying photography back in the early 1980's, we called it a lithograph effect and we made it in a darkroom. Of course, now you can do it in Photoshop and I'm not sure that the film we used for it is even still available.

The problem is people watch explosions on movies that are either done with petrol or CGI rather than real explosives and that causes a very poor judgement on safe distances, not that this wasn't dumb anyway.

FWIW, a typical hand grenade contains about 56g (about 1/8th of a pound) of explosive and that can potentially kill you from 50ft away if you're unlucky. So after shooting at 100lb of explosive, even a less powerful one, from a similar distance, the guy should consider himself lucky to still be alive. His leg could just have easily been his head.

When I think about a situation where I'd be confronted by just one predatory animal, such as a big cat like that, or a wolf, or something equally dangerous, I always think that I'd have a fighting chance. Think about it. It uses its paws and weight to knock you over before using its teeth to bite at your jugular. Assuming it comes at you from behind or the side, you've got maybe two seconds to react before the teeth go into your neck and rip your air and blood carrying parts open.

What advantages do I have? Well my neck is about 1/4 the size of the necks found on it's normal prey, so the area to aim for is much smaller, plus the teeth might hit my jaw or collar bone before it gets to the soft fleshy part. Secondly, I am far more intelligent, which means I can come up with novel ways to defend myself (which is true already, we have 4WDs and rifles for when we want to go on a safari tour, which is pretty good defense). Thirdly, I have two very versatile hands which I can use to gouge eyes & ears, and punch and choke with.

Those things combined, in the right circumstances if I was attacked by a large predatory mammal I think I'd survive, and maybe even kill it. I'd be more worried about one big non-predatory elephant coming at me with anger in its eyes. But a group of two or more animals, yeah I'd be rooted.

Based on real life stories, if one gets a hold of you, take advantage of your strong opposable thumb to press as hard as you can on its eyeball. If it's male you can also go for the balls. When I hike, I carry bear rated pepper spray, but more for coyotes, which are much more common. I suspect it will work on these too.

If you see one in the wild, do your best to keep your distance and look as big as possible. Open your coat and hold the sides out so that you look bigger. Make noise. Be intimidating. Do not under any circumstances bend down to pick anything up. Do not run away. Back away slowly.

I always find it amazing how domestic cats are still so related to African wildcats that it's almost as if they never left the wild. Well, some of them anyway. Of the two that occupy the house I live in, one is a definite hunter/killer (but still cute) while the other is a wee lil' stupid fluffball who couldn't hurt a fly. And they're sisters. So different to each other. Any cat could easily survive on its own if left to fend for itself, which is why stray cats are such formidable pests, but they can still be so dependent on humans for life's essentials, and loyal to a very select few for love and companionship.

It's hard to say for sure, but I'd think a part of a big wild cat's behaviour would be the intent to try and kill you. It would have to weigh up the risk of attacking someone (or any animal, not just people) versus the need to eat. The cat in that video looks like it got itself profoundly lost somewhere in the minutes before it appeared in that video, and had to run pretty quickly to get past the humans, which seemed to pose a threat to it. That was it's own version of a dark alleyway with some no-good-lookin people in the corner.
